5 pointsHi. I'm new to the forums. I own a D160 with 48" snowblower, 48" mower deck, 52" tiller and lawn sprayer. Recently my wife decided to build me a snow cab. (Yes, you read it right - my wife) I thought I'd share a couple of pictures here. She made the frame out of wood, which makes it very light and easily installed using only 4 bolts.

2 pointsAll that stuff never happens in the Mid-West...it seems like it always happens out east. All of our kids are Campbells' kids....bright shinny faces and rosy cheeks...homework done...rooms cleaned...and asking, "do you need any help with anything Dad" ??

2 pointsI will have a trailer load of WH's for sale at the Wapakenetta flea market, tractor show on Nov. 8th. My buddies are selling them for me, I won't be there in person. Some of the tractors for sale are, 603 Special, 500 Special, 857, 552 w/1962 snow plow, a 1966 snow thrower and maybe a snow blade or 2 also. I may have an old RJ 58 for sale too and possibly one other tractor, not sure what it will be yet. These tractors are in descent shape and most will need restoration or repairs. Anybody looking for this stuff, feel free to contact me or show up at the show. Thank You...KJ

2 pointsI agree, home would be nice, especially since that stupid tomahawk chant wouldn't be as loud. We get so tired of that. It should be a great game as long as the turnovers that have plagued the Irish lately come to an end. The weather is going to be absolutely perfect so that can't be used as an excuse. GO IRISH!!!!!!!!
-
2 pointsAnd I'm betting all the time the kids were adding oil & pull stating ,the other hand was texing all their little buddies on suggestions on how to fix it. HERE'S YOUR SIGN...
-
2 pointsRemember the BIG GAME this week is ND vs. FSU!!!!! GO IRISH!!!! Only 5 teams left undefeated and this one has the makings of being a true fight to the finish! To bad this game is not beig played as a home game for the Irish. Something to ponder... If Ol Miss and Mississippit State win out the rest of the season, they potentially could be 1-2 ranked and still have no loses. They would then play each other again in the play-offs or possibly, dependig on how the play-offs are structured, they could see each other in the Championship game....... Rob

2 pointsDittos on that. If one more case unrelated to the Duncan one shows up, I don't think the government will have any other choice but to put a ban on travel from West Africa. I'm flying to Orlando on Monday and you better believe that I am more than just a tad concerned.
-
2 pointsI've thought of doing this too....but it might consist of only me out in my shed drinking beer and talking to myself...so, basically I have a meet and greet almost every night

1 pointSome of you may have been following my latest 4x4, inspired by Bob Rock and a few others. It's taken a while, but today I finally fastened the tin work on and borrowed my sons C-121 hood - (sorry Ewan), its still also still 4x2 for the pics and video - I needed the tin work in place before I finished the idler and 4WD select/difflock. Seat is almost the right height, just the housing to tidy up and springs to add. and the obligatory video
-
1 pointJust started mocking this up tonight. This hood is very straight and rust free, unfortunately has a horrible primer job on it that will need to be removed. The stickers were taped off before primer thus the C-125 sticker showing through. The hood will be set just a bit more forward (2-3 inches i think) once I get the C series brackets bolted on and aligned. Should put that onan nice and centered in the opening.

1 pointHad some good shop time today and got a lot done. Should I say I am almost finished. Tomorrow The only thing left to do is put the seat on and finish hooking up the lights. Have to get some male plug in inserts to finish the lights. I am very pleased with the way this turned out and really proud of the work I did. Nu first restore and it looks like a winner to me. Still have some decals to add. Will do that tomorrow also then take a tour of the neighborhood. If you look in the background of some of the photos, you can see the new Deestones for the rear . I need to paint the wheels and let them sit for a while before I install them.
-
1 pointjust an fyi and most wouldn't care about this, but the seat pan also would need replacing with a workhorse pan if you want it all 'workhorse'..... that pan is a 3,4,500 series pan, the workhorses didn't have the lip along the rear bottom edge.....

1 pointUpdate. The gas is not out. I have been fishing in there for a while now. No luck. If you see the link Jack posted. The tank is a weird shape. Look in the fill hole. Very shallow there. And drops off on all sides. Plus can't feel a darn thing in there. Taking a fishing break. Oh. The cap does not float. It's a heavy. Thick plastic. Sunk like a stone. Edit: mike. Using the spring claw thing. That's my fish pole. Glenn

1 pointFirst talk with a couple of others in your area and then set a DATE and PLACE to meet. A date when you feel most can meet with the least conflicts, and a place to works best for most (with close parking, and something to see, like a shop or tractors). Keep the first meet & greet real simple, allow people to bring their tractors if they want, and parts to sell, if they want, but then that requires more room and more parking area. Start advertising on this site early, specific date and directions, and keep us all posted on it's progress. Most Meet & Greets start out real small, maybe only half-dozen people and at one persons places to see their tractors, then each year they grow from there. Just takes one person to start the idea. But remember, "You Can't Please Everyone All The Time". After each Meet & Greet, you receive suggestions and ideas to consider, don't try and do too much yourself or you'll burn out. For a local Meet & Greet, a few hours is plenty, Food & drinks are extra work and cost, let people know to to bring their own, or if over a lunch, direct everyone to a local food place if near, or if like 1:00 to 5:00, food should not be expected. Toilets can be a problem but must be considered. If you charge fees, (even for food) then insurance becomes a factor. Keep them very simple, but just start. Only takes one person.
-
1 pointI would say forget the cap. It probably will do no harm in the tank and it would be a bit of a project to unfasten and lift the rear fender to remove the tank to shake the cap out. The tank is a very weird shape and there may be no way to get it out without removing the tank. A new tank by the way is only $658.23 from parts tree dot com. I have removed one and if you have some time it is not all that bad. Plan on a few hours to do it. See the service manual for the procedure to unfasten and lift the rear fender. To remove the rear fender they recommend a two man lift up and off the tractor. All you need to do is unfasten the fender and prop it up so you can get to the tank. Working on the Xis is more like working on a small car than working on the traditional Wheel Horse. Here is a diagram from parts tree if the link works. You can also go to parts tree and enter Toro Consumer model 73520. http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=toro_consumer&mn=73542%2C+520xi+Garden+Tractor%2C+1999+%28SN+9900001-9999999%29&dn=3321-940-_9400029-00024

1 pointMany thanks Ethan for the location. I will go look tomorrow in day light and then post them here. The remaining pics I have...enjoy! Eck

1 pointWell....I have to thank my local dealer here; they gave me the heads up on it because I think the former owner called his local dealer to get an idea of value be for listing for sale. His dealer called mine for an idea of value because they know each other and I dont think too many of these were sold...then my dealer called me and said "hey, I know of a 520 with loader for sale....." So, long story short...it kind of fell in my lap..wasn't really looking for one but the price was fair and the owner had everything for all attachments. After using it to unload I can say it certainly isnt as capable as bigger machines (i have run many skidsteers and mid size tractors, loaders, etc) but it should be great for mulch next year and some other little tasks I have im mind....snow will be fun too if I need to stack this year. This tractor is definitely getting the "Matt's foot control" kit I have on the shelf. So far, im thrilled...I will clean it up and service it tomorrow then start posting questions.....like: 1. Anyone ever add a filter for the loader? 2. Anyone convert twin stick loader control to joystick? The current configuration reminds me of the 1960's case construction king we had for a yard machine at my old job! Anyway...thanks for comments and stay tuned!

1 pointHey Neil..A English reply for you. " jolly good show ol chap" That's great....... Glenn
-
1 pointI have been lucky as this hasn't happened to me. I try to avoid texts. Sometimes you can tell a lot about the seller by the sound of their voice.I can tell a shady dealer a mile away.I wouldn't have driven anywhere until I talked to the guy right before leaving.

1 pointRobbed the Dash off of the 414 and gave it some reinforcing in the weak area. Gonna go with the flange bearing trick learned here to support the steering shaft.
-
1 pointWould love to come AJ but I think you're a tad too far away. We'll be having our usual group, daughter, son in law and granddaughter. Plenty of good eats and....refreshments. My wife is going to make some frozen mudslides too. I just looked over the schedule. There's several top 25 matchups. Some really good games. Yet another shake up in the rankings this week. Then there's tomorrow. Talladega with three of the 'top' contenders in basically must win situations. Should be wild. Fun weekend!

1 pointJust remember you get what you pay for, on another tractor site a guy bought the cheaper tires and compared them to a set of another brand and went off on a rant thinking he was ripped off, because the two sets of tires were marked the same size on the side walls but in reality were not even close, the Deestones are good tires I have a few sets, but size wise are smaller, than say a Goodyear or Carlisle, so keep that in mind when buying tires, there is no standard for garden tractor tires, and you truly do get what you pay for.

1 pointI took my dad to the ER the other day with a age related illness. The nurse asked if he had traveled out of the country lately. Living in a small town,I just never considered ebola to be a concern here.I am close to St Louis so I guess its a very good possibility. It must be scary for health care workers now. This is not a political statement,I believe all flights from that area should be banned. This is too dangerous to learn lessons the hard way. By the way,my father is fine and back home.
-
1 pointDo I have a set, yes. Have I ever used them, NO. Why do I even own a set? For that one in a thousand situation where a cam sensor or crank sensor is literally buried in a engine compartment and I'm already 99% sure its the sensor at fault. If I would pierce a wire, I would cut it at the pierce and splice it with an approved self healing silicone crimp similar to what is used in telephone repair work. I would never use these devices on my personal vehicles for the reasons stated above. The manufacturer goes thru great effort to spec weather tite connectors and quality insulation for their harnesses. Dealers highly discourage poking holes in harnesses due to warranty concerns. Is this a concern for the do it yourselfer? Doubt it. Then again I can't imagine these devices being necessary in the repair of lawn and garden equipment. Poking holes in harness wires is certainly not considered a "best practice" in professional circles.

1 pointAhh yes...Cusat's Cafe in Hazleton Pa! Peppers and eggs with hot Italian sausage and Italian bread toast! My mouth now waters!!! Lol! :-)
-
1 pointI doubt that Jason, you probably messed something up trying to be a mechanic just like you dropped that 702 on top of its hood unloading it from your truck. I cut my Dads 1 acre yard with that tractor at least 4 times and it never ran like a pile of crap. If there was JB weld in that carb it wasn't something I did. If you got something to say to someone you better say it... And if your mad I changed my mind about selling it to you then that's too bad. I ain't know one's delivery *****.

1 pointTim, I happen to be that neighbor! Im only 29 but I continue to carry on that genuine hard working american attitude. Hard to find around these parts... AMC, already have the primer and paint for that ol' rusty sob. Its old, but was given to me. I believe its over 30 years old.
-
1 pointAnd with the hood finished up and mounted. I still have to find an upper dash. I got a couple of local contacts last evening and hope something pans out.

1 pointHey guys, I am stealing an idea from another post on another forum. Hope they don't come after me. There was a complaint of hard to steer on the Case and Ingersoll tractors, especially after installing a FEL. Some solved it by adding a needle bearing on the steering spindles where they meet the axle. I ordered 2 sets from McMaster-Car, total cost $21.75. Nothing beats a try but a failure. Might have to grind a few hundreds off the top of the axle to make room, but that can't hurt anything. This might be a better fix than the reduction steering and a lot easier to accomplish. Cheaper too.
