6 pointsClassic study in human nature. I guess it depends what side of the cash register you sit on. Buyer screams foul when he pays seller $20 for a $2 part or service which buyer could have made / performed / located by himself. Vendors proclaim commitment to the hobby when they sell something for $20 that was made for $2. Guess the best bargain on the site is .......... me. Troubleshooting advice is always 100% free - for now anyways. World keeps turning .........................

5 pointsJust brought home another load, a load of pallet racks to put Horses and Horse stuff on. 12,000 lbs per shelf rating should do it. Now I need a small electric walk behind forklift. If you guys want to organize and make more space this should do it. Got it all from a Surplus place in Indiana really cheap.

3 pointsFWIW - I was looking for an answer to this question a while back but came up with my own solution. I motorized the chute on my 523dxi blower with a GM window motor. It took awhile to figure out how to connect it to the star drive on the motor. I ended up using a twelve point socket and a short 3/8 extension to connect it to the rotator rod. It works great and is easily removable. I drilled a hole through the socket extension to clip it through the rod. Hope this can someone looking to do the same. I had some requests for more photos

3 pointsHere's pics of my 45 minute ride around the tree farm today. Got the fancy yellow saddle on the horse and leaving the pony at home! And Back home again!

3 pointsGrade 5 will be fine... truthfully, Grade 2 (common zinc coated cheap bolts) are fine for most of the bolts in these tractors. The grading is the hardness of the bolt... what it's going to take to break it or shear it off. Most of the bolts on these tractors are just holding stuff together with very little shear forces in play. Using Grade 8 or 9 is a waste of money. Remember, the harder a bolt is, the more brittle it is.

3 pointsMy local Lowe's has a fairly decent stock of stainless steel nuts and bolts now, but price checking yesterday for five 3/8-16 x 1" carriage bolts for my snow plow, and they were $1.05 each plus $.30 for a washer and $.85 for a lock nut. Same products from Boltdepot.com would have cost about $.75 for everything.
-
3 pointsHmm, how much is a bag of squirrel feed these days? We better get stocked up before the price increase.
-
3 pointsthere are other ways of getting oem parts and not paying those prices. for example the headlight is just a GE 4411-1 sealed beam. the Onan spark plug wires are still available new under an Onan part number for half that price if i remember correctly. (even that was too much for a basic plug wire......) research is your key here, this forum is a wealth of info with some searching, and the internet is full of oem parts with some searching too. most of the time the original equipment supplier still has their part number on the part and you can find sometimes the parts are still being manufactured.....
-
3 pointsI consider it a miracle in today's world to be able to find original parts for a 24 year old tractor from a long out of the Wheel Horse business company. If Wheel Horse had not sold out and remained in business, many more parts would still be available. What gets me though is the fact that this dealer had a NOS part collecting dust on the shelf. He probably only paid about 10 cents on the dollar when he bought it, and now he has the nerve to try to sell it at highway robbery prices. Just my 2 cents worth.

2 pointsSo... it has been less than a week since my brother and i pulled off our trade of my C-161 for his 417-8. Today I was SUPPOSED to be just sneakin out of work for an hour or so to take a look at a 520 Steve might be puting on the block and to check out THE BARN. Little did I know that a Block Buster was about to take place. Here is a little history on what a Block Buster is according to my brother and myself. It is when there is a creative swap with MANYplayers involved to even things up. I walked away with a 520 and a nice 1958 18 hp Johnson.. Steve got himself a MINT 1957 18 hp Evinrude, a very nice 42 inch rear discharge deck, some outboard repair work on two of his outboards and a little cash on top.. (I hope I haven't forgotten any details?) Keep in mind we put this all together in less than 15 minutes! Now that is how its done! The 520 I walked away with is on the right less the deck and leaf vac that Steve is keeping. Its funny because the 520 on the left was mine that Steve got in our very first Block Buster deal. I have wanted another 520 since giving that one up, nothing can push the snow like a 520.. This 520 will probably get a nice worker refurb..

2 pointsToday was a really good day. We were able to get all the framing in less the rafters. They are all loaded up on the top of the framing ready to be installed. They will be back on Monday. Jeff and Ken both stopped over today. Jeff had the day off so he hung around and helped out. Ken came over on his lunch break and we did a little tradin' I will post pics of what I got on my end in another thread. Here are the pics of where we stand as of tonight. The first pic shows Jeff (Fireman) up helping set one of the last beams in place.
-
2 pointsHey Frank...at least he stopped and asked about it. We horse hunters have been doing that for years...looking down tree lines...along houses and barns. The difference...we stop and ask. It was probably Geno that stopped.

2 pointsI've had a "round nose" WH parked on my driveway most of the summer (702)...a couple weeks ago a guy from "inter-city" KC pulled in and said he had been watchin' that ole lawn mower and wondered if I was going to throw it away...needless to say I jotted his lic # as he drove away (without the WH) but he got a piece of my mind!!

1 pointNot too sure about the hubcaps yet. I put them on because the paint on the rims are really bad. I may end up repainting them and installing front and back wheel weights.

1 pointI'm smack dab in the center of Home Cheapo and Lowes. Prefer Lowes for SS hardware. I did just purchase 3/8-16 x 1 carriage bolts and locking nuts, SS, for the dozer. One pint can of Never-Seez has lasted me for several years and probably another year too. I have three 48" dozers, all have SS hardware. Hey, maybe SS hardware will be a one time purchase? PS: Old used bolts 'n nuts, if serviceable, get dropped in a coffee can with oil. Cap off the coffee can. I sometimes need something and go diggin'.
-
1 pointBut if on SS few years back the powers that be said "...no increase in cost of living...therefore no increase in SS..." Wow I need to live where they live. Even generic foods, tractor parts and gas has gone way up for my memory of 3-5 years back and still see-sawing up and down. Man nowadays a WH would cost $10k. And still talk in the mill of doin away with penny, so will cost a nickel when that occurs. Wages, looks as if only mandate there is get more for less from somewhere outa US and let the US worker shrivel away for the non rising cost of living increase, Ok , I'll get down
-
1 pointThe bigger picture here is everything everywhere is costing more....including to the Toro dealer. I wonder what it cost that toro dealer to open his door in the morning? -Oil/gas/tools/equipment/computers/inventory/taxes/insurances/power/salaries/licenses/his own pay/etc. If he sells at the original markup of say 16% on a 5-10 dollar item he would be making what .80 to 1.60 profit. IMO he can't afford to run his computer and take the time involved in searching for that kinda money. Ace Hardware gone due to the same issues? People go there to buy the nuts and bolts that gave the owner a few pennies profit, but when it came to larger purchases that would actually give them a little meat on the bone the consumer went to save the $50 at a box store....the same ones we complain about today that pack a few screws and bolts in plastic and cost us much more.

1 pointThank you all for your overwhelming response to the video. I must apologize though. During my flurry to put something together for all of you, I accidentally entered the copyright zone in my choice of music and the video is blocked on most phones. Sorry. I guess giving credits in the video is no longer good enough! Lesson learned! Maybe a reformat when I get time. Take a look at what I woke up today to! Vegas Baby

1 pointI mean all off roader horse lovers are welcome, but I'm just afraid my trail isn't worth the out of state drive!

1 pointMost of you already know I got this 417 via a trade with my brother... I spent a few hrs. cleaning and detailing it, now that its all clean I guess its time to get it dirty! I trailer a trailer down to my Dadfs house to mow his lawn which I will do tomm. I wish the grass would stop growing. Today I adjusted the governor so its a little more sensitive and adjusted the throttle cable and throttle stop. I put a tach on it because the throotle response seemed a little soft, it was only reaching 3000 rpm's. Much better now! Here are a few pics, one next to my other 417 with forward swept...

1 pointNo Craig, not that kind of labor. Ken is the man for not only fixing up wheel horses but also out outboards
-
1 pointI love both the hydro and the 8 speeds, The hydro is much better for the mowing and close in chores and the 8 speed is better for the brute strength work. Having both, I couldn't pick a favorite!!! They both perform any task asked of them!!!

1 pointI don't root for any college team. I'm here to watch Steve and Brrly go at it and hopefully get someone else to have to clean the Boiler room.

1 pointDo you really think you can get three Teckies running at the same time. You might need a 20 Onan for a starter.

1 pointI'm still working on a new formula. I have 3 games I've decided on. Still on the fence on the others. I'm taking Steve's picks adding them to Brrly's and dividing by 12. Then multiply that by 3. I'll take that number and add the number of snow plows Geno has and then multiply that by the number of items currently in Craig's magic shed. That number will go into a hat which I will pick out blindfolded.

1 pointJust want to add a quick note to what Mr. Maynard said... If you've decided to start wearing safety glasses, or ear plugs, or whatever safety device makes sense after reading some of the stories that have come up here recently, please start TODAY. Life's too short, it only takes one accident to mess you up permanently, and you don't get to choose when it happens. End of lecture.

1 pointBob, I think when he said "When I give it a little choke it quits." I think he means it stalls... That is how I read it at least?
