3 pointsThe 520H snow blower project is finished waiting for snow and the MTD 700 is cleaned and oiled and actually mowed the lawn Sat. So, today was the Commando's turn. This I what I started with. It actually runs and drives. After about 2 hours, I had this. An hour later Some of the crud I found Wonder how long it's been since this horse saw some maintenance. Hard to believe it could actually run in this condition.

3 pointsI finally got the hood stripped so I could get the full picture of what was needed. I think I'm in really good shape. The biggest challenge will be getting the top nice and flat. You can see the situation by the angle of the picture. My son in law has a lot of body tools so I'll be raiding his tool chest. I also have a new repop belt guard on the way. The spiffy pot in the background is something Richie makes. He recycles spent freon tanks and makes various things. My wife bought a fresh pineapple yesterday and made some white chocolate covered chunks. I'm in the process of rooting the top and if I'm successful it will find a home in this pot.

3 pointsWhat's up everyone? I hope all is fine! I'm going to be donating a aluminum Front weight for raffle. This particular weight I would like all the proceeds to go to Keith Jones alias Hammerhead. I met Keith and his good friend Larry about ten years ago down at the Wapokenta fall show and swap. We talked for a few. I ended up with the 57 rj that we were discussing, anyways we kinda of talked here an there but with Keith going thru all of the things that he is right now with the throat cancer and having to sell off his tractors (That Sucks) I am just trying to Help out with some of his medical costs. I guess what I'm asking for is just a little Help from all of you guys. Let's do this so Keith can save his Tractors!!! Maybe Scott can jump in here also. I'll post more this afternoon.

2 pointsHi guys, I’m new to the Wheel Horse Forums. I just purchased a tractor I grew up with as a kid, and have been searching for a long time. Just to give you guys a little history, my childhood friend’s dad bought this tractor for him (about 25 years ago now) in rough condition for a father son project. I can’t remember how rough it was when they got it, I only remember it in its restored condition. We had a lot of fun with it through the years, and finally lost interest in it in our high school years when his dad eventually sold it and it disappeared. Through the years I often wondered where it went and if I would ever see it again. Two years ago I had a baby boy and a year later another baby boy, which got me thinking about the wheel horse again. I thought if I could find it, it would be a great father son restoration project for us too. This past summer I got my first lead, I was told it sold to a guy not too far from where we live so I went for a drive to see if he still had it or if he sold it, to who and when. When I asked him about it he had to think about it for a minute, and finally he said well I don’t remember selling it so it must be up in the barn. Perfect I thought, that was just the answer I was looking for. After digging through tons of junk in his barn we finally found it, and four implements that I had totally forgotten about. I quickly realized it had taken quit a beating in the last 18 years since I had seen it last. The paint is all faded, decals are gone, the engine was sitting beside it on the floor. But on the positive side, the sheet metal was all straight and mostly rust free. The tires although flat, still looked to be in good shape. So I made him an offer of $200, and he said he couldn’t let it go that low, so I sent up $50 and he said make it an even $300 and you have deal. So I picked it up the next day, and brought it home where my friend and I grew up riding it as young boys. My dad couldn’t believe I actually found it, and also couldn’t believe it was the same tractor because just like me he remembered it fully restored with bright red and white paint. So I’ve looked it over and figured out what needs to be done to bring it back to its former glory, the only thing I can’t figure out and was hoping you guys could help me out with is the year and model. It doesn’t have a serial number on the tractor or transmission anywhere, but it does on the engine. It says Kohler K 91 Model No (T), Ser No (403823), Spec No (31307A). So I was hoping someone could shed some light on this as to whether it’s an early or late model tractor? As far as the restoration goes, he said the motor used to smoke, so probably a whole engine rebuild there. The transmission feels like its stuck in neutral and won’t go into any the gears, but when you go to move it, it feels like it is in gear? Plus it looks like it had a bad leak, so transmission rebuild? Other than that, primer, paint and decals should bring this thing back to life. 2 pointsThere are some videos on Youtube that show how to carry out some really useful repairs. Search for Onan P220 Carb. You don't have to take the carb all the way off to clean it. If you take off the air cleaner housing (5 small bolts, if I remember), you are most of the way there. Two screws hold the top half of the carb to the bottom half. Unscrew, and disconnect the choke linkage, and the top comes off. You can now get to the float, and clean out the bowl. Most of the small jet holes that clog can be soaked with carb cleaner and blown out with compressed air. Soak. Blast. Repeat. Wear goggles. Don't get carb cleaner in your eyes! This is easier than it sounds. The first time I did this, I didn't get the needle valve back in the slot on the float properly. So I got the chance to do it a second time right away! Break tractor. Screw up repair. Suffer and stew. Fix it right the 2nd time. The Cheesegrader cycle of learning!

2 pointsI had a great time at Mentone this Fall Swap Meet! David and I got to see a lot of our Red Square and Wheel Horse buddies from all around ! We sold a 500 Special and several other things. The sunshine and talking made the day go fast (we were only there Saturday). I did take a few pictures: Gene Simpson and Richard Layne deserve a big round of applause for another great show and swap meet held in Mentone, Indiana! Also make sure you get a least one meal at Teel's Restaurant in beautiful downtown Mentone when you go-breakfast or dinner ! If you walk across the street from Teel's Restaurant you can see the Giant Concrete Egg Mentone is famous for too!

The Big Ten needs to start playing the better SEC teams and beating them to get some respect.It's that simple. I don't know what genius thought up B1G vs. MAC but he should have been strung up by the short hairs for that idea. Talk about a deliberate weakening of the conference. :*****: Ok, climbing off my now. P.S. I don't agree with everything Rob says..

1 pointAt the end of my formation as an industrial mechanic, I had to plan and build a ball sorting machine. seen here is my solution. Specifications were: max 3 kg, max 250x250x250 mm and at a turn a ball should be sorted by a lift.The diameter of the balls are 4, 5 and 6mm. The graduation project I have already passed, unfortunately I do not know yet my points.

1 pointFile, tape, lube... very good. I just usually use a good punch that has a good flat end and tap with a ball peen hammer tapping the seal in like 1/3rds of the circumference once you get it started...tap is the key word here. Use the punch to work it around. I never did like using a tube or a hub...you can't really see what is going on. Use a punch and get the seal kind of started...you will be able to see where you need to tap it. Best way to do it.

1 pointCraig, that picture of your axle looks like it has a worn area just in front of the seal...that would explain why you may have 2 seals trying to stop the leaks. Is that a 1968 Commando? If so, that is a #5053 transmission with 1" axles. Another seal in there is not going to solve your problem if the picture tells the story. If the axle is bad, both the left and right are the same...wheel Horse # 3904...racinfool40 (Mike) may have one or two if you need them. The seal for the 1" axle is TORO # 100863 or SKF # 9815. Ed...if you have 1" axles, use the numbers that I gave Craig. Your other option is...if you have 1 1/8" axles...Wheel Horse # 100443 or SKF # 11050. Your axle is either 1" or 1 1/8" diameter...that is all there is. Hope that helps you guys...

1 pointIf I am understanding you properly, you are saying that when the hose from the pump outlet to the carburetor inlet is disconnected, you get a steady pulse of fuel when turning over the engine, yet there is no fuel in the carburetor bowl when you remove it? That sounds to me like the float valve in your carburetor is stuck closed.

Really love the moldboard plow I picked up it will look great on the back of my tractors. Can't decide which one it looks the best on. Also enjoyed that "Chops Fire Pit". That is some good BBQ.

1 pointWhen I was young (MANY years ago!!) and had no money and drove some real clunkers I would put rings only in some really fonky looking bores and more times than not I would luck out and they would seat, or at least cut oil consumption/smoking quite a bit. Mic that cyl out and if only slight wear, throw some rings at it, should be less than a $100 so it anit gonna hurt the pocket book much.

1 pointThere are more diesels out there than you'd realize. Many in unexpected places. Mostly from vw, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes since they're already standard fare in their fatherland. Chevy has one in the cruze. I'd imagine that fiat Chrysler will be putting them in us bound cars too. Mazda is on the horizon as well in their 6 sedan and cx5. Diesels are part of the wave of the future. The new v6 diesel in the ram 1500 and grand Cherokee is a nice start. As is the one destined for the soon to be released Chevy Colorado. I am 100% in love with the 140hp oil burner in my vw car. Great everyday performance (not Chevelle level for sure) and 45 mpg. On the rare instance that I need fuel and encounter another diesel auto owner we usually agree that it's a mystery why everybody doesn't have one. If I was more motivated and could clear the house of all my engines, I'd start over with all diesel. Car, truck, boat, lawnmower, everything. Have more fun, get a diesel. Rudolph
