2 pointsVery Fortunate today to purchase a one owner machine from a very nice gentleman. When I asked about the white walls he said I was a kid this was my hot rod so I painted them. Anyway just thought I'd share and show the pretty rare cart off a little

2 pointsIt has 68 decals and a 3 spoke steering wheel. I think it may be a 1968 . great little tractors. A 68 lawn ranger was my first wheel horse.
-
2 pointsWell she's done. All new paint and decals. Did a conversion from an electric clutch to a Manuel clutch(310-8 donor). Had the deck hooked up and cutting, and wanna hook up the snow blade soon! Thanks for all the help. Into the lawn ranger! Ps the tractor is red, not orange I promise haha

2 pointsI used my Lawn Ranger years ago to clean out the tank of a generator I was rehabbing. Made a frame out of 2x4s bolted to the rear hub and the 5 gallon generator tank. jacked up the Rangers rear end and let it run in 2nd gear for a awhilee and then reverse.... Then used the Eastwood system to finish the job.

2 pointsWonder what the neighbors will say about us now AJ mowing with a fuel tank duck taped to the wheel?
-
2 pointsThis is one of my first rides on the Iron Horse, summer of 1978. Needless to say, I would have many more hours of seat time on this tractor over the next 35 years! Now my boys get to drive, help restore, and hopefully show, the same tractor I grew up working on! Sorry for the quality of the pics but these are all copies of slides that my parents have and there are more where those came from but I have to run now! (Bonus points for anyone who correctly guesses the year make and model of the yellow truck behind us!!!)

2 pointsHe means the tank has a taller than average fill neck due to it having to come up through the hood. I wouldn't bother with the Red Kote for this... (and I've used it) You can probably buy another already clean used tank for the same money you'll spend on that.... definitely if you're buying that and the evaporust. Besides... that's only really necessary if your tank has actual rusted through holes. If your tractor's condition is any indication, you just need to clean the tank. I tried evaporust... it was not that effective for me. I probably just should have left it sit longer. I've had much better results with drenching it in rust penatrant and putting some abrasives (like roofing nails and sand) in the tank, tape sealing it shut and strapping it to the wheel of another tractor while mowing the lawn. The spinning and abrasives ratting around inside clean it right up.

2 pointsCondenser wire (the one from the barrel shaped thing!) goes to the positive. Only the black wire from the ignition module goes to the negative post on the coil. Don't ever connect the black from the module to the positive of the coil, you will damage the module. Three wires to the positive, red from module, yellow 12 volts and black condenser wire. One wire to the negative, the black from module..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2 pointsThe tanks long neck makes it a bit unique. Clean out isn't hard. Remove tank and outlet fitting. Tri Sodium Phosphate and hot water (or purple power or the like) and a few rocks. Then just slosh it around. Rinse well and then put in some Acetone and swill it around. (acetone will absorb left over water to preclude rusting. There are various coatings you can buy for gas tanks check you r auto parts store.

2 pointsGeno I would seriously consider sacrificing body parts to have a shop like that. My hat is off to you

1 pointHi guys, I new to the forum but not new to the beloved Wheel Horse. My dad purchased his first garden tractor in 1975, it was a then well used and abused 875. He rebuilt it in about 1978. Then in about 1983 he restored it. I grew up cutting grass, cultivating the garden, and plowing the garden on that machine. Thank God he never got rid of it! I got into GT's about five years ago and own a '71 GT-14 that I want to restore when I have the time. Anyway, I've finally convinced dad it is time to restore the ol' Iron Horse! So, I've come to you guys for the knowledge and resources that you possess to help us do the best job we can. If you can point me to the right spot on the forum, I'll start a resto thread that will include tons of vintage photos of this tractor in our family through the decades! Some are even copies of slides!!! I'm looking forward to seeing this family heirloom looking better than it ever has...

1 pointGot to meet RFWHorse and his lovely wife yesterday and brought home all of his Wheel Horse stuff. He had an Onan and was fed up with it and shed his stable of Horses and attachments. I'm confident that one day he will get a good one with a Kohler (and a lot less wires) and rekindle his love for Horses. The 520 has one of the sweetest sounding engines I've ever heard but needs a lot of wiring work, the deck is solid with no rust, has some new bearings and new blades. The 518 is the quietest one, but it has no motor he he, also got another 50" mid mount grader, front deck carrier, extra rear wheels + tires, and some new parts, oil filter, misc small stuff. They're getting cleaned up now and will have more pics hopefully later this afternoon.

1 pointWell, while mowing with the 314-8 I noticed it was a little noisey...maybe even on the previous mow. As I'm making an approach between the yard I was mowing and the neighboring driveway, I catch a pulley scooting across the drive. I stop and look at the front mule drive. The nut, guard and spacer are missing. Now here is the weird part. My son and I looked high and low everywhere we mow and it is nowhere to be found. 2 weeks later and nothing. I'm thinking about putting a picture on some milk cartons to see if it turns up!

1 pointHere is a few pictures of the progress. I started out using Valspar Cut Ruby. I was not to impressed with drying time and overspray. So I went to Krylon Cherry Red dried faster and very little overspray. I used Rustleum Almond white on the wheels. Not sure if they needed to be white or off white but the almond looks pretty good. I had to weld up the center portion due to cracks.

1 pointSorry if I missed it in the reading but is there 12 volts at the pos side of the coil with the key on and has it been checked with a test light also, not just a multi meter?

1 pointOh, man... make sure the safety locks are both engaged on that rotary, and make absolutely sure you check at least 3x that nothing is in the way before you lower it. I saw a guy drop a mid late 80's LTD on another car next to it when he forgot to move a post jack before lowering... almost got my tool box!

1 pointWelcome to ! "Wealth of knowledge" is an understatement.. Nice little tractor you got there!
-
1 pointAnd thanks for posting pics of that fine looking Horse.

1 pointSharp looking Lawn Ranger! I moved your post out of the gallery section to the main forum so you can get your question answered... (there are no comments allowed in the gallery) Tank can easily be cleaned. You just have to put the time and effort into it.

1 pointCome on Gene, leave a few for the rest of us . Man, if I had your shop, my life would be complete.

1 pointHere is my gas to diesel swap done out of necessity. What could I do? You cannot find one of those 32 hp. Renault motors and the skid steer was under powered any way. If you think it costs too much to put a 10 hp. in a Wheel Horse, well you don't want to know what it cost me to put that 51hp. Kubota in this thing or the mods I had to come up with.

1 pointWell, this will undoubtedly bring up an unpleasant memory for a certain player of the Dino persuasion.. Stevasaurus's all time worst pigskin pick..
-
1 pointYou guys got it all wrong on how to pick em. I tried this outfit first.. and if that don't work I'll go back to my dartboard.
-
1 pointOne test you should do Engine not running and key off. - Check the voltage across the battery terminals. Now move the red test lead to the DC+ on the voltage regulator. You should have the same reading. If not follow the path back to the fuses and then on to the battery to find the problem. This is the path the charge current takes to get to the battery. Garry

1 pointScott, you know your show (concerning the weather) has never been for the faint of heart. That is why Lars has not been there yet...he is into REAL WEATHER and the Midnight Sun. The tea leaves in my cup tell me a gorgeous day in the low 70's with Wisconsiney Clouds that are excellent for pictures. Yah Right...

1 pointI have a 1994 YJ I bought about 8 years ago with a little over 100k on the clicker. Philly Jeep no rust, great frame, unfortunately its the 2.5 4banger. Since then its gone through quite the transformation if I do say so myself. After using it for a daily driver for a couple years the springs were shot so a set of 4 inch lift Trailmaster springs and nitro shocks, steering stabilizer, and 1 1/4" over shackles for a total lift of around 5 inches. Its had a couple different soft tops on it since I got it. Currently it runs a Bestop 30 oz sailcloth top thats the quietest warmest soft top I've ever seen hands down. It had 235/75-15s donuts from the factory with 4.10 gears...lets just say it was never a highway monster. I changed tires a couple times in the last 160K miles I put on her. Went from the 235s to 29 BFG all terrain T/As and ran the crap out of them. Last year I got me a set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs in 33x12.50-15 and it roll with an attitude now. I can't use 5th gear at all on the interstates around here with all the hills but cruises at 70 in 4th gear all day barely turning 3000 RPM...right in the middle of the power band. It has suffered a little at low speed wheeling because 1st gear is a bit higher now, but when Im into anything serious its in 4 low and I see no noticeable change there. I love my little YJ. Next thing to upgrade is going to be the axles. with 260,000 on them the rear is getting a bit loose and I don't want to snap one of these cheap c-clip axles on the Dana 35s or the 30 up front......heres some pics...she don't look bad for 260,000 miles.
