8 pointsVery Fortunate today to purchase a one owner machine from a very nice gentleman. When I asked about the white walls he said I was a kid this was my hot rod so I painted them. Anyway just thought I'd share and show the pretty rare cart off a little

7 pointsGot to meet RFWHorse and his lovely wife yesterday and brought home all of his Wheel Horse stuff. He had an Onan and was fed up with it and shed his stable of Horses and attachments. I'm confident that one day he will get a good one with a Kohler (and a lot less wires) and rekindle his love for Horses. The 520 has one of the sweetest sounding engines I've ever heard but needs a lot of wiring work, the deck is solid with no rust, has some new bearings and new blades. The 518 is the quietest one, but it has no motor he he, also got another 50" mid mount grader, front deck carrier, extra rear wheels + tires, and some new parts, oil filter, misc small stuff. They're getting cleaned up now and will have more pics hopefully later this afternoon.

4 pointsWell a heart felt Thank You to all of the guys who got together a donation for me at the Mansfield show! Mike and Deb, Derek and Tammy, Tim Leedy, Doug Hout, Allen Meadows, Bob Burroughs, Ripley Stratton, the Fox Brothers and many others! It brought me to tears and it still does!! Makes me miss you guys even more. I hope to get cured but when you sit around for long periods of time, you just think bad thoughts! I need to sell a bunch of stuff to raise more money so selling the herd is the best way to do that I guess. I'll keep a few good one's but will have to sell several good ones and all the spare parts tractors I own. Several Lawn Rangers will be for cheap if ya like them. I have engines, attachments and more to sell. Maybe get a sale going from this site and have everyone show up at once. But my buddies will get first crack at the stuff. Lets get it going after the Centerburg show Sept 20th and 21st. The last show of the year for us. So thanks alot to everyone at the Mansfield show that donated money and signed my card! Great group of guys and gals! Love ya all! Keith

3 pointsPicked up my second horse the other day a C-175. As soon as I saw how nice the seat was I knew I had to have it! I also got a plow and chains with it. I've never plowed with a hydro before. I was wondering how they hold up to plowing?

3 pointsFor the 3rd year in a row it has rained on the Saturday of the show. This year it rained enough to move the garden tractor pulling event later than I could stay because I'm on call at work. I have yet to see this event Maybe next year. Too bad too. I got glimp's of some nice modified pullers including Horses! Not many Horses on the grounds this year though. The few I saw were mangled and butchered up. Still a great show with a huge flea market I took some video's from a tram to try to capture some scope of the show size. Mini Moline was the feature this year. I have a soft spot for them. A few folks from Illinois stopped by A new bike for Brrly! More pics

3 pointsJust so you know you aren't allowed to make any weather predictions this year........
-
3 pointsI can tell the show is getting close...the weather is finally starting to get nice. Bring your snow blades, blowers and squeegees!!!

3 pointsKen and I met up on the lake today for an afternoon burn... His is a 1954 Crestliner and mine is the 1955 version. You do not see one of these boats everyday let alone two.... I was eating his wake all afternoon because he cheats.....

2 pointsRevamped the old shed today, Jacked up the shed, placed 4x4s under the whole thing, cleaned out the inside, put down new treated stringers and placed a new deck in there, gotta give the Horse a nice dry stable for the winter. What a pain in the a$$ job that was.
-
2 pointsPurchased my first Wheelhorse, a 308-8 from a Red Square member. I have always wanted a garden tractor to haul a cart around, and the 37 deck should make short work of my small 1/3 of an acre of grass. It has some minor rust issues that will be taken care of this winter, but I am concentrating on fixing a no crank situation. So far I have replaced the key switch, solenoid and fuse holder, but can only get it to fire up when when jumped at the solenoid. The Kohler Magnum runs strong with no smoke when started. The next step is to check the grounds, connectors, switches and wiring for problems. I would appreciate any advice that you can give me in this area. Attached is a couple pictures.

2 pointsWell, while mowing with the 314-8 I noticed it was a little noisey...maybe even on the previous mow. As I'm making an approach between the yard I was mowing and the neighboring driveway, I catch a pulley scooting across the drive. I stop and look at the front mule drive. The nut, guard and spacer are missing. Now here is the weird part. My son and I looked high and low everywhere we mow and it is nowhere to be found. 2 weeks later and nothing. I'm thinking about putting a picture on some milk cartons to see if it turns up!

2 pointswell my burban has been sitting for awile now so i had to put my girl for some work today and to give her some fresh air.. Ill bought a new sweeper Agrifab 44 inch that i had to test so the burban might going to be a sweeper puller.. light and nice work for a old lady... a video of the burban whit the sweeper Lars

2 pointsMoving right along, I painted the hood today. Last big painting project for this tractor. I will wait a few weeks to mask and paint the black. I don't want to take a chance of marring the paint with masking tape. I am really getting torqued over this project. Can't wait to finish and start the 417-H. I also want to take the motor off the 520-H and open it up to check it. Life is good here on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.

2 pointsThey feel better now and so do I after several hours of pressure washing. I still can't get over the massiveness of the 518 duals.
-
2 pointsRoundhoods with out engines make nice end tables. Lamp on top, Magazines where the engine goes, snacks and drinks on the seat and easy to move. What's not to like?
-
2 pointsNow that's funny right there. He is probably going back foe the end tables in the morning. "Honey, Where did all our furniture go?"
-
2 pointsWondering Geno...if you got him to throw in the kitchen sink along with that carpet?
-
2 pointsWe all think your a really great guy Keith & Its a honor to be your buddy ! Get well soon your in my prayer's ............Tim

2 pointsI dont know about the master craftsman title. I like building things and try to do the best I can with what I have. I like things right, at least as right as I can get it. Thanks though.

2 pointsA big to Richie (19richie66) for his work on my hood yesterday. We had tried to get together several times but issues kept coming up that had to take priority. I’m as happy as a squirrel in a nut house with the results. The repairs look great and are very solid only requiring minimal work once I get the thing completely stripped. It sure feels good having it done right. Without Richies help I would have had to resort to JB Weld and cross my fingers hoping it would hold. The stripping will begin today and I’m thinking within a month I should be able to slap some paint on it since it should be getting cooler and dryer outside. I also got to see Richie’s other projects including his Ratitude build. There’s some great engineering and fabrication on that tractor and it’s going to be really cool. Hopefully it will make it to the big show next June . I have made a little progress on the frame. A few more parts are installed. The tool box and fenders are primed and waiting on final painting. I need to get busy on the front axle and wheels so I can get it rolling.
-
2 pointsSparky, you're slipping. You might want to start tractor, engage drive unit to where the hydraulics are warming up after about fifteen or twenty minutes you are going to want to find an immovable object say a tree or a light pole bring the rpm's up to running speed engage the trans, if the tires spin that's a good thing, if they don't spin and it sits there and groans then run, run, run very fast the other way. In other words the hyd. pump is shot. Just words to the wise

2 pointsI shipped a K241 engine from the Fastenal store in Westminster, MD to Fastenal in Crossville, TN for $75.00. As mentioned above, I put it on a pallet and they unloaded from my truck. They attached shipping documents and had it delivered in less than a week.
-
2 pointsMJ and I will be there with some things 4 Sale. Anything different or any questions PM me. Thanks ~Duke

2 pointsSave Old Iron I do wish there were someplace on this site that stored all your illustrations in one place. They are absolutely marvelous and an enormous help for our members. I have hold an Extra class Amateur Radio License, and a better understanding of electronics, than a lot of folks but you sir teach me something new every time you post. From reading earlier post of yours I gather you have a host of slides, drawings or photos stored and all that would be needed is to find a spot on the forum to post them. One sticky in the electronics section to which you could add to as the need arose would do it. Again Thank you for the great service you provide to all of us.

2 pointsFor the light duty stuff, might maybe give this one a go.
-
2 pointsAs much as I like loaders, that thing looks scarey to me. I would have to "Re engineer" the whole thing.

1 pointScott, you know your show (concerning the weather) has never been for the faint of heart. That is why Lars has not been there yet...he is into REAL WEATHER and the Midnight Sun. The tea leaves in my cup tell me a gorgeous day in the low 70's with Wisconsiney Clouds that are excellent for pictures. Yah Right...

1 pointRitchie is a master craftsman. Wish he lived somewhere around here. You are doing a great job on that restoration. I also like the assembly bench. Neat idea. Now will it fit the next Wheel Horse you restore. One is never enough.
-
1 pointMy Fastenal store has pallets there, I have shipped 2 times now with them (a wheel horse transmission each time) and they have been excellent. I just drop it off and put it on one of their pallets and they have tied it down. I definitely call the store and give them a heads up. They call me back when they get the paper work. I think it helps that the guy's Dad has an old Wheel Horse in his garage that he wants to get running. I gave him the link to this site, and he was thrilled. The reason, I think, why it takes some time for them to ship sometimes...is the pallet does some traveling. From my store, it goes to their hub (Minneapolis), then it goes to their main hub (Indianapolis), then to the hub for the costumer store and then to the destination store. My store has a truck come there every day...some stores may only see a truck once a week. I don't think you can beat the price though and you do not have to build a box for your shipment. BTW...this was my store's 1st time doing 3rd party shipping...they did not even know they would do that. It was a painless and learning experience for both of us.

1 pointSometimes I can't help but add my two cents worth....the governors on our small engines are designed to hold the RPMs at level the operator sets. Generator engines are set to hold 60 cycles at the required voltage. Walk behind lawnmowers, self propelled or push, are limited to safe blade tip speed, which is 19,000 feet per second. An 18 inch cut mower is going to have a different maximum engine rpm setting than a mower with a 22 inch cutting width. How the blade tip speed relates to the max engine RPM on our WH tractors is a mystery to me. As I understand it, when one bought a WH, he could buy the tractor he wanted, and add the size deck he wanted. You see 310's with both 37 and 42 inch decks, my 314-8 handles my 48 and 42 inch decks with no problem, and I have seen 416's with 37 inch decks. All engines are not set at 3600 RPM, if you look at the Kohler spec #'s, the max speeds vary. it is probably a good rule of thumb, though. You can find the intended top speed by going to the Toro Solutions, where you plug in your model #. Click the specifications button, and your idle and high idle settings are shown. For instance, for a Model 71227 Toro 16-38 HXL, a hydrostatic trans 38" cut B&S 16 horse OHV rider, high idle is 3300 RPM, low idle is 1750 RPM. Models with Kohler engines show the factory prescribed speeds. My 314-8 shows a high of 3325, and a low of 1200. I have to assume the top engine RPM's on a dedicated lawn mower are related to maximum blade tip speed (a known factor). My head hurts thinking of the math needed to translate engine RPM to tip speed going through all the pulleys! At any rate, I use factory specs when I can.

1 pointPleasure to finally meet you Bob. Glad you are happy with the results. As soon as you left, heaven opened up and it rained the rest of the day. I wasnt feeling too good so I went and took a nap. Think the heat got to me. Cant wait to see this one done.
-
1 pointYeah but if come up here then I don't get anything.. You grab em up so quick![emoji14]

1 pointI will echo what others have said about Fastenal. I sold a mower deck Friday that a member wanted in Pa. I was not going to ship the mower deck. I was persuaded by the member (and paid extra) to secure the mower deck to a pallet and take to my local Fastenal store for third party shipping which they do. The store unloaded the pallet from my truck with a forklift and placed in temporary storage until their Fastenal truck picks it up to transship. I obtained a receipt this am and scanned it to send to the Red Square member buyer and it is on it's way. Shipping a mower deck (36 side discharge) which fit well on a 48 x 40 pallet cost the buyer $125 to ship from Greencastle, Indiana to Pennsylvania. I would say the experience was an eye opener and shows Fastenal can do the job of shipping big and heavy parts for a reasonable price. The third party shipping information is on the Fastenal website.

1 pointAll due respect to those who run less than full throttle, but every small engine manufacture states in their literature that it is to be operated at full throttle at all times. Many of these engines do not have oil pumps and get lubrication from a splash. The faster the splash the more lubrication. The faster the flywheel turns the more air circulates to cool the engine. When you turn three blades as fast enough to cut grass it takes a lot of horsepower. Remember that the blades have an upward curve which uses energy and causes air resistance.

1 pointA month and a half away!!!! Wooo hoooo!!!! The response has been great so far and the goal is to have 200+ machines on site this year. Be ready to show, plow, sell, kick back and relax, and just have a good time. Why should you come???? Well where else can you have this much fun and help support a good cause through a raffle that all of the proceeds go to help fight against childhood cancer??? What if I get hungry???? There will be amish meals available for you to purchase at a reasonable price. The homemade pies are a meal in themselves!!!!!!! What if I don't know anyone???? All the more reason to attend. The folks that attend our show are always top notch! Should I bring my tractor? It isn't shiny! Yes of course, we don't discriminate against condition, brand, or custom work done. We appreciate and admire them all!!!!! Will Stevasaurus be there???? You bet he will! Just follow the silver mug and it will lead you to the life of the party! In all seriousness I hope you will make the effort to join us this year. The show seems to grow and I am very thankful to all of you that make the sacrifice to be with us on October 4th! See you all soon!
