8 points...a recent C/L score I made in an effort to be nice to my back from now on.
-
6 pointsSo I added it to my collection. Has a nice little K-90 on it. I also picked this little guy up
-
4 pointsI had a nice 48" sd deck on it but have the same deck on my 520H. I found this 42" rd deck yesterday just in time for fall. It will be used with a lawn sweeper to help save the old back while picking up leaves this year. This tractor is among my favorites in my collection and is a everyday worker around the house.

3 pointsFrom time to time we all have entered into the discussion of "what do you use to paint with?" . Well, the Harbor Freight HVLP gun always comes up. I have said, any time they go on sale, I pick up a couple. It's easier and cheaper to just throw them away than to spend money on lacquer thinner to clean them, not to mention the time involved. This weekend Harbor Freight is having a "Yard Sale". Here is what I got. Then I presented this: So, bottom line is $9.99 less 25% = $7.49 each. I bought four of them. I had 4 coupons, and I had to go through several different registers to get my discount, but it was worth it.

3 pointsGotta love this new day and age we live in. If you want something done right you gotta do it yourself! That's why most of us are here right?
-
3 pointsBob, it could be worse.. Of course this isn't just the postal service's fault, but it's Gov'mt related.

3 pointsHere is a pic of the mod I made to my 520s seat. I also removed the coil springs and the slider, then added big rubber bumpers made from an old bow roller off a boat trailer. I also added a hinged 1/16" thick plate to cover the holes in the seat pan. This keeps the grass out and also acts as a reinforcing plate for the bumpers to rest on. This arrangement is very stable.

2 pointsNot long ago, I sent a 1st class envelope from my house to a town 10 miles away, and it took 5 days. Last week I mailed a part in a padded envelope to one of our members in the UK and it only took 4 days. Someone needs to explain that. [emoji398]

2 pointsthis where I am at so far with the 1257.I pick this up in NY in May. what a jewel all original just a clean from the frame up. all is left is a good compound on the paint. I so wanted to do a video but my sound on this computer is not cooperating. I did want to keep it original that is why the car battery with the round post. Enjoy Gary B.

2 pointsThe gas lines are all new now with a fuel filter below the tank and rerouted under the engine. I need seat springs in a bad way

2 pointsI would loosen the bolts in the head and put it just like it was. I wouldn't tell them that I did anything or they may blame it on you.

2 pointsif the belt is longer than before by 1/4" the belt profile probably isn't allowing the belt and/or pulleys to slip enough when the clutch is pushed in. either the belt isn't slipping enough on the engine pulley and is still moving when the clutch is in, or any belt fingers or the belt cover isn't positioned properly. for the gears to be grinding you still have movement inside the transmission. all movement at the transmission pulley needs to be stopped otherwise the gears will grind. the belt guard is installed on the tractor, isn't it? without starting a debate here on oem vs aftermarket belts, i wish to say this is one of the reasons i only use oem belts. i have never had a problem when replacing belts with the same part number as originally on the tractor or application.

2 pointsI've tried every conceivable method of leaf pick up and a rear discharge deck with a lawn sweeper in tow is the best way to go.
-
2 pointsUnlike some other K series singles KT 17s do not have adjustable valves. If they are getting noisy they are probably too short and the only repair is replacement (and that is pricey). Other than losing some power I wouldn't worry too much about it.

1 pointI wanted to make my 7000th post something interesting, and actually worth talking about. But then I said nope, I'm just going to pat myself on the back and look forward to the next 7000. Thanks to the powers that be for providing this great forum for me to bloviate.

1 pointI've got a Simplicity that will lay down a nice stripe. But today, while mowing at my Church, I thought I'd give the Wheelhorse 520H w/ 48 inch deck a try at it. Here's what I got: Not bad for an old tractor.... ;)

1 pointcouldn't paint today so I did some other odds and ends. Decided to attack the seat mount. What a mess! Everything was rusted had to fight every nut and bolt to get them out. Finally had to use an air hammer to cut rails out of the seat bottom. I tried using an impact driver on the screws but was only able to get one of them out that way. I wasn't going to reuse the seat anyway so nothing was lost but sweat and time. I actually burned up the motor on my bench grinder while using a wire wheel to clean the paint off rods, hydraulic lines and various metal parts. Probably 20 years old anyway and time to replace it. Off to Harbor freight tomorrow for a new one. Have a bunch of 20% coupons.

1 pointAlso... confirm the sheave on your pulleys are clean and free of rust before installing that new belt.

1 pointIf you find that the lift takes up too much room I will let you keep it in my shop.
-
1 pointWhen the guard (cover) is in place, the end that attaches to the engine should have these tabs. With the clutch pedal released, and the belt pulled tight, each tab should be about 1/32 of an inch from touching the belt.
-
1 pointNo race here Martin. I just happened to have my Raider apart to show the two tabs. Hopefully JEGibbs will be the winner. One other thing I do to these two tabs is to increase the bend where the belt enters and exits the tabs. Make sure they are smooth with no burrs as they will wear on the belt covering.

1 pointI have the same 'problem' in east central Missouri -- But for me it is a good problem -- Had enough rain and cool weather that not only do I now have a lush stand of crab grass (which filled in my multiple bare spots) but the cool season fescues are also still growing -- For the first time in YEARS I am cutting grass every week in AUGUST!!
-
1 pointI moved this from our Bumps and Bruises section into the Electrical section for ya. Mike.........
-
1 pointI don't think there's a 520 problem that hasn't been discussed here! Mike...........
-
1 pointWouldn't too long of a belt have the opposite effect? I'm going with "you forgot to put the belt cover back on".

1 pointLast winter we had more than our usual amount of snow, so I was kept very busy clearing driveways in my immediate neighborhood. I have about 8 to 10 on my "route" and they all appreciate the work that my 520 with 54" blade does for them. Some pay me and others barter with computer repair, baked goods or other compensation. As we all know, I would gladly do it for the "seat time" but I am very happy to take any form of payment as a bonus!
-
1 pointThe key I think to keeping it looking new is a 3' piece of 5/16" brake line with an air fitting on the end. Every time it's used it gets blown off. With a 80 gal Devilbiss air compressor you just have to watch you don't blow a hole in something.
-
1 pointThis tractor is all original except the front tires, deck wheels, blades, filters, spark plug and carb. All paint, decals, seat, deck, every other piece is completely original, my dad bought it new. There is some touch up paint on the left deck side where it gets into the fence sometimes to stop the rust.

1 pointGene. My driveway has a good steep hill to. Here is how the 416 gets set up. Imho you WILL need chains. Sorry. I also have the stock turf tires. 70lb. Weights on the rear. Unstoppable. Just like the movie. Before I had chains. Got lucky ONCE. After that the tractor wouldn't budge. There's your snowblower in action. If your afraid of ring the paving I would try the rubber chains. I want a pair myself. Best of luck. Glenn

1 pointThis is not my regular grass cutting tractor. My 86 417A has a 42" deck with a blower bagger set up and does a very nice job for the time being. But I am looking for a larger home with about 1 1/2 acres, with that in mind I put together a 48" deck and wanted to try it out on some thicker grass. So I put it on my 90 520 that I re-powered with magnum 18. I took it over to my brothers last night where he had some taller grass and it did quite well. Lots of power and love the foot control I got from Matt. But this was my first time cutting grass with the gear reduction steering, and I did not like the amount of turning I had to do. The 48" deck isn't heavy enough to need the reduction, so I think I may need another tractor for this deck. This tractor was put together for my loader that I haven't put on it yet, but I wanted to put some hours on it to see how well it worked. I am happy with it and it worked great! But I noticed how much more I had to turn the wheel to turn the tractor to turn around. it is effortless, but a lot of hand over hand movement. Looks like I will need another 417A for this deck.
