5 pointsokay little background first, all summer me and my son have been hearing all summer long that cub cadets are just better. We would just smile and say we have a thing for our horses plain and simple. Well the county fair always hold tractor pulls, so we thought well lets give it a shot. Me and my son went out grabed the b-80 threw some weight on her and met the neighbors at the fair for my boys first pull, well at the weigh in turned out I was about 100lbs shy and my tires well regular old ags, nothing special. The cub was up first and me n my boy watched her go we looked at each other and said "crap were in WAY over our heads" Next up was the boy , so I told him just give her all shes got and we shall see. That darned thing chugged down the tract as if out for a sunday drive, listning to the loud speaker we hear it WE beat the cub by 3 feet and place 3rd in his class at 165FT. My boys first trophy! We can now spend the rest of summer with our horses, not hearing about our belt drive "its been really quiet" I know this probably should be in pullers, but thought everyone would get a kick out of it "weve all had the cub horse debate" Thing is equal power, both twelves just us with a 100 less pounds , a LOT less money into it "nothing" and she brougt him home a trophy. I told my boy dont say anything to them about it just say good job, put the trophy up and we will let it go, enough has been said.

4 pointsWell, found round hood, finally. It's supposed to be a 1960 Suburban and as far as I can tell that appears to be the case, no numbers I can find. It looks pretty good but needs to be completely restored except for the engine. The tranny leaks from both axles as does the brake shaft, paint is gas soluble, probably Krylon, clutch is completely inoperable but repairable, loose steering, cable linkages missing, left foot rest missing, rear tires are shot... etc.. Lots of work ahead but thought this would be a great winter project. Here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure, BTW, the wife tells me I'm on "lock down"

2 pointsMy husband passed away 4 years ago and I have a Wheel Horse in the garage. Problem is I know nothing about it. It does have a snow plow attachment. I hate seeing it just sit there. I was wondering if anyone could give my some information on it if I post pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I live in Indiana. Thanks so much...Kim

2 pointsI don't have a Wrangler, I've got a "real" Jeep, a '79 CJ-5! To be a real Jeep, it must have round headlights and leaf springs C-85

2 pointsIve got a 12 inch and an 8 inch moldboard plow. Had a 10 inch and sold it. The 12 inch plow - by far (for me) gives the best results. However it is HEAVY and is a hard pull. I now use it with my 520H with rear weights and ag tires. The foot control kit from Matt and the hydro steering makes for a nice plow tractor. The 12 inch clevis hitch Brinly plows are hard to find. If you think you might get a larger Wheelhorse, I'd buy it while I could. Here is a pic of some plowing with the 12 inch moldboard last Spring

2 pointsYou guys are terrible. When a person becomes addicted you are supposed to encourage them to stay them away from temptation. You remember the part that says "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."
-
2 pointsNice looking burban. When your wife tells you these things.....you're on the right track.

1 pointHello all, I'm new to this forum, but definitely not new to wheel horse. I still have a 1975 B 80 that my dad bought new in 76'. 02' DL never finished

1 pointK guys its time to order tires for the 416 Im building my Dad. I would like to go taller but not necessarily wider as I would need to do 520 wheels then. How big can I go in the front and back without hitting the fender or rubbing the 48" mower deck when turning? The reason Im going bigger is my Dad likes his grass high and even cutting with the deck up with the factory tires I only used to get 3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inches with this tractor/mower combo. I think the hydraulic lift has something to do with that. His lawn is religiously cut at 4 or 4 1/4 in the summer. Thanks for any suggestions...oh and also it will be turfs all around no ags or tri ribs for him

1 pointWe had this pedal cart laying around that spent a few years sitting in the woods before we got it. The kids used it for a few years and the steering finally gave up the ghost after being fixed a few times so it sat for a while. I was about to cut it apart and haul it to the scrap metal dumpster at work when I had a vision. With the sawzall already in hand I started cutting. Next thing you know the welder came out. Cut down the length and made it so it can be taken apart for transport. Had to cut down the front sides so it doesn't hit the tractors rear tires when turning. That was two weeks ago. I started vacation Monday and since it was nice got to painting it. I think it came out pretty good for something I didn't pay a dime for and was on it's way to the scrap yard. Now I'm contimplating making a removable rear shelf for hauling any treasures I may find at the shows etc. Here's how it started life: And Now!

1 pointPictures can be deceiving but you still have a great little tractor to work with. The heart is beating good so that's a big plus. The tranny seals are easy but there are things you'll want to check in the process. You won't lack for any help you need from the folks on this site.

1 pointKM, Thanks for your help. I'll take another look at it in the morning. I appreciate you sharing your experience. best, dwc

1 pointStop on by Gino. I will whip up something and we wiil have a binge of one kind or another.
-
1 pointIt's up to Kim and my little phillies pocketbook but she has just authorized a trip if she can afford it. This tractor would be all hers to tow her Wheel Horse wagon with and take care of the landscaping. I'll furnish the gas, food and the truck.

1 pointI keep a pot of Pasta Fazul ready at all times. They can smell it 50 miles away.

1 pointLooks pretty cut up and modified. My guess is that it was once a Charger 12. The way it's been butchered, I would say that it would definately be a "challenge".

1 pointThanks. It's a fun project that almost keeps me out of trouble. From the pictures your hood looks to be in great shape. I've discovered that mine needs more than I thought. I should have pics this weekend when I attack it getting it ready for repair. One of the funnest parts is talking to and meeting some the great folks here. I'm planning on meeting 19richie66 Monday. He's got the tools and know how to fix the holes, straps and cracks properly. It should be a fun day and educational as well. I came pretty close to you a couple times when visited the kids close to South Bend a week ago.

1 pointNice score, looks to be a great foundation to start a restoration with. My wife had a pretty good idea of what she was getting herself into when we got married back in 1992, I even warned her I didn't plan on changing my ways too much. I was originally in the muscle car hobby and blew thru thousands each year on my cars. In comparison these little red tractors and my boat and outboard hobby are much cheaper on the pocket book. The trick is finding a happy balance of time spent on my hobbies and time spent of the honey do list.... I think I got it figured out, 70/30 seems to keep her happy.... Life is good.

1 pointThe 312A is mine, and it is a real nice tractor, and the deck works off of the right side manual clutch and the pump works off the left side of the motor, and no it is not hard to get on and off of this tractor, and the pump is very strong, I put 26 12X12 fluid filled on the rear yesterday and it also has a forked bucket, I mounted the loader close to the rear tires so that when you raise the buck it puts the wt. towards the rear. the pump runs all the time and the deck only when you want it to. and the loader comes off in 5 min. or less. And as for the spindles, they are stock 3/4 in. but I have build many loaders and mounted many factory loaders on wheel horse's, and they only ones I ever had problems with the spindles were the D series with 3/4 in spindles.[ and that the design and wt. of the front of the rig] and yes I had a D250 with a home made loader, I'll try to post some pictures of all the Horse that I have had. And this one has hauled many full bucket loads of dirt from our town dirt pile to my home and it's 1 mile. with no problems at all.

1 pointI probably started mowing on this tractor when I was about 6 or 7 ,and up to about 18 when he "retired the old girl" and gave it to me, I did a complete tear down and repainted it with apple red from the wheel horse dealer in the mid 90's. The original 8 hp was pretty tired, so during the restoration, I re powered with a 12 hp kohler. 02' DL never finished It's still in my storage unit, need to drag it home and get it going again. 02' DL never finished

1 pointWhen Stevbo get's done with his barn, he's been hired to dig a moat around Iowa. As a side note, whoever joins me in the boiler room for cards, has to help me find my missing refrigerant leak detector! Mike Steve
-
1 pointYes there is no shifter boot at all and water must have gone throug from there. I remember my grand-father use to fill up that boot with grease just to make sure water would not get in the transmission. Was messy but effective!
-
1 pointAnd here is where we are today with the rolling frame. I left many pictures out cause I have to many. But they are important when putting things back. Many of you know that.
-
1 pointThat's fantastic inspiration I'd love a rod like that.. It kinda reminds me of this. An Australian Chamberlain tractor

1 pointAn overdue update... Thought I'd get in the action on fender repairs, by the time I welded up the holes in a c series fender, I thought it easier to weld up the very rusty raider fender. Here it is with most rust cut out and patched And with the last patch in place Time for a short video showing the final transmission arrangement and steering. http://youtu.be/S6zzlN8f1-0 And some pics with the body mounted and engine It was going to Newby, but now the GT is going there's no room... :(
