10 pointsWife wanted to do the floors again today... so I put some sunblock on the kids and put them out in the back yard to play. Later, while I was gathering them up, I heard some birds causing quite a commotion over head in the trees. Looked up to see one of the wiser of our neighbors had dropped in to watch the show.

6 pointsToday is the 224th birthday of the U.S. Coast Guard. It is the oldest, continuous sea-going service of the United States. And on this past July 21st, I celebrated my 45th anniversary of being a "boot" recruit. My photo nine weeks later on Graduation Day - a much skinnier and younger FA Matthews than today's version!

4 pointsThe only bad thing about a Vette is getting out of it! I had a "Vette" once. Good beater. Fold down the seat and fill it with junk!

3 pointsPicked quite a few hot cherry peppers this morning! Put Seriously Sinatra on the satellite, peeling garlic and jarring peppers! I'll have a big pot of tomato sauce and meatballs on the stove before it's all said and done!!! Lol! I'm happy with the way everything has grown this year!

3 pointsBeen without a 4 wheel toy for a couple years so I scraped up all my pennies and bought this over the weekend. Its a 1994 with a 5.7v-8 (what else right ?) with a 6 speed manual, and a solid targa top with a leather interior. Its not showroom/mint condition and does have a few nicks and scratches but still looks presentable. The Magnaflow exhaust is a bit loud....or maybe I'm just to old . Now to figure out how to insure it with one teeneage driver in the house and another one just 2 months away from 16!! Probably try for classic car insurance from Hagerty or something along those lines with just the wife and I on the policy. Pics of course; Mike.........

3 pointsi guess at the moment i am in the minority here. all of my 80-90s tractors have the seat springs and either oem seats or replacement medium height back seats. i absolutely would take one of them any day over the 60s tractors for comfort. i also don't find the standard spring setup unstable at all. if everything is tight in the rear, (seat pan support, flip frame and bushings etc) and you have decent springs you should have a stable ride. i used to mow with both my 1277 and my sons 875 and i could hardly move after getting off the unsprung low seat setup on them......... my newest 416 with the oem style toro seat and standard flip/spring setup is a dream to ride around on and i feel i have plenty of side support and stability... if you have the slide adjusters and spacers between the springs and seat, removing then could get the height down a bit, also some of the flip frames used the early 90s large coil springs attached to them that rested on the seat pan, i could see where they would be unstable as they don't sit down firm like the small bumpers do...... this oem seat (minus the toro logo-but made by the same supplier) is lower than some of the medium back seats. i think it is miles ahead of the seat that was on the 90s tractors from the factory, seem to sit lower and the sides hold you in comfortably. just my 2 cents worth, I'm sure there will be other opinions to follow!!!

3 pointsGot to hand it to that wise Owl. Always trying to further his education and learn. He was doing his thesis on "How the heck does that guy fit all those tractors in there?"
-
2 pointsI saw what looked like a nice 14 for sale on Craigslist this morning, but someone beat me to it! Whoever got it-looks like you did good!! Once again, I was a little too slow. If only I didn't have to work.

2 pointsIts not a heavy duty machine so unless my grass was getting long I wouldn't offer anything.... and I would keep looking for a garden tractor. Just my opinion...don't expect it to be a very popular opinion . Mike........

2 pointsStart at $50, I wouldn't go much higher than a$100. The more I think about it I don't even know if it's worth a $100

2 pointsI don't think the previous post was made with ill intent, nor was it meant to be a negative comment. The title of your thread "quality control" may just be the problem. I have seen parts marked wrong. I have seen quality issues with some Kohler parts as well as aftermarket parts. The issue is not that you bought the wrong parts, but that it seems more likely that something is amiss with the parts you bought. I too would check and double check before modifying anything. The correct parts, either Kohler or aftermarket should fit without modification to either the rod or the cylinder. As to the torque value. If the engine has not been run, the "new" torque value is the one to use.

1 pointI'be been told if you jack the rear end up and spin the wheels, if they turn the oposite direction it is a 8 or if they turn the same direction it is the 10 pinion.

1 pointWell I think you guys have talked me into dragging my newest horse into the garage and tear it apart. I'm not really sure if it's salvageable yet.

1 pointIf everything else checks out okay, a new belt may be the solution. When did the problem start? Was it working okay before you took the belt guard off? What's the history on the B-60?

1 pointHappy Birth Day Glen! If 71 is the new 50, time to go see the Doc with the cold hands and the big pile of rubber gloves!
-
1 pointJust curious. How many times are you going to ask the same question? Sometimes you have asked it with a 12hp. Sometimes with an 18hp, now you are back down to a 14hp.. What is the deal? Are you having a relaps of the movie Ground Hog Day?

1 pointJust to be clear the D series transaxle uses 3 1532 needle bearings. Still available and also can be sourced elsewhere. However there is one needle bearing behind the Hydro motor that is part number 8049. It and its replacement# are NLA from Toro. I never found a commercial replacement (shades of the 1533 bearing) The issue was the length (i called it width above, sorry) it is only 5/8" long...no one had a bearing that short with the correct ID and OD. It has been a couple of years but I didn't see any way to use a longer bearing. (3/4" is a standard size but too long.

1 pointYou better put a roll cage around that Wheel Horse mate. If Jeremy Clarkson from TopGear has taught us anything, it is that Reliants don't do anything well except roll over suddenly without warning.
-
1 pointWasnt a real big fan of the OEM seat on my 1996 416 either. So I replaced it....this one makes me feel even higher and more unstable just like you stated. I'm building a 416 for Dad right now as his 12 Auto has about 4500-5000 hours and needs a rebuild. I believe the new seat is getting bolted directly to the adjuster mechanism with no springs at all. Dad mows hills quite a bit and while theyre not that steep, at 74 and his balance isnt what it used to be and I dont want a rollover accident because he felt tipsy. I think wheel weights, front and rear will help the stability as well. Youre not crazy I find my old low back on my 1974 C-160 much more comfortable than the newer seat on my 416

1 pointNovember 1968, I stepped foot onto the Coast Guard Training Center at Cape May, NJ as a boy, and in February of 1969 left as a man. Four years later, in 1972 I received an honorable discharge and began life in 9 to 5 work-a-day world. Looking back, I wish that I stayed in the Guard until retirement. I would have been a lot better off. To this day, I still miss life aboard ship. Although the roll of the Coast Guard has changed a bit since 9/11, I still think it is one of the finest, and best trained military services in the USA. John, I am still looking for those old pictures taken back then. My wife thinks she knows where they are, and when she gets home from work, I will try to post a few. Thanks for starting the thread. 1 pointNice Vette!!! I always wanted a 70's vette, but ended up with a 70's Camaro. (Wanted to take the kids with me and needed a 4 seater.) Someday, I'll get a vette when the kids are older. Good luck with it. Better to have it not showroom condition....now you won't be scared to use it.

1 pointThe restraint was entirely 'fear of wife' induced. She left with the boys shortly after I went over there. After the long conversation I was back here typing the post. I told her about it, showed her the pictures and she said I should buy it. I'll never get women figured out. I posted it for the neighbor at $800. I won't pay that for it due to the current condition. I'm thinking maybe $400 and some of that is due to sentimental value. It will fit in the bed of my Ranger with the deck standing up next to it. The guy and his wife are really nice and have done a lot for the kids here since I'm not around. In fairness to them I want to see what happens with the ad and later this week, if there's no activity, I may discuss it with him. Oh yea, about 5 miles from here as we were arriving yesterday my wife spotted a house with 10 acres for sale. Just maybe...............................

1 pointI had an old craftsman that finally died after almost 15 years of us. After some research I went with Stihl FS130. A bit pricey, but has enough mojo to easily cut through 2-3 inch trees and makes easy work out of clearing bramble thickets. I just swap the head and go between clearing saw and trimmer. I love it thus far. I believe in buying the best i can afford. Cry once.... This unit is much better than my previous unit and will likely be the last one I have to buy in this life.....unless I start a landscape business.

1 pointYeah, I almost cried the first time I saw it unveiled. Now there's a reality show! Just need to get you and half dozen other of our Master Restorers together. Then hijack a deserving members tractor.

1 pointA 3/4" threaded shaft takes a 3/4" nut and most wrench sizes are 50% larger than the shaft. 3/4" = 6/8" + 3/8" = 9/8" = 1-1/8" wrench. Garry From my notes Outer spacer between cover and pulley # 101757 is 1/2" long Inner spacer between pulleys # 101734 is 5/8" long

1 pointI like to run at full speed on motor and move as slow as I can made it go.. This let tiller dig smaller bits of dirt which will be more pulverized when done... Slower motor speed and fast travel speed will take bigger bit and leave bigger chunks of dirt... motor RPM 3600 .. two to one reduction to tiller.. 1800 RPM.. tiller gear box another two to one(guessing) 900 rpm at tiller . My 2 cents

1 pointA front mounted E-Z Rake PTO driven thatcher. I think this would be really cool to have. I've only seen one, and it was on Ebay recently... -BK
