One of our members here, NorthForker was getting rid of his 312-8, so I loaded up the kids and took a nice scenic road trip to Long Island. I have to tell you, this was my first time in this area of LI and I have to say it's really nice. Beautiful farms, great farm stands and just lovely countryside PLUS the ocean is just minutes away! The machine is in great shape, everything is tight. There's an engine vibration which needs to be addressed. When running, the PTO will wobble, when I engage it it smoothes considerably, but there's still a vibration. I am not sure if it's an engine bearing, the PTO or drive pulley. I took the PTO Bell off and that is in perfect condition, but I didn't remove the clutch or race to check the condition of the drive pulley. I have already cleaned it so it actually looks quite nice, the black on the hood could use a touch up and of course some decals from Terry! In the mean time, I'll be continuing to check that vibration and decide what the final disposition will be, it starts up beautifully, so I hope it's easily fixable. So here it is, a 1995 312-8

Started working on the RJ I got at the show. (Who doesn't like working on show tractors?) Haven't done a lot to it "since" I got it home. It needed the correct hitch (had a full size tractor hitch held on with a 5/16" bolt) no lift linkage, red overspray all over ect. I only drove it during the parade. It was noisy when letting out the clutch but at the show there is so much noise it was hard to pinpoint. Rigged up a hitch and cable with a collection of parts I got from J-Dog and used a 5/16" brake line for conduit. REmove the plastic on/off switch that was half red and installed a nice toggle as well as got rid of the yellow wire nut. Replaced the wrong spark plug and crappy plug wire end. Added some stainless hardware for some eye appeal. I was worried about the trans. It rattled like gears grinding when letting out the clutch. So I drained the old gear oil. It was black but no water or metal shavings. filled it with a 50/50 mix of 90 and diesel. And took it for a ride. Drained the oil and replaced it as well as changed the engine oil as well. I hear the rattle in the belt guard so I need to look into that but the trans sounds fine. Also the exhaust loosened up and getting it tight enough put the muffler into the gas tank. Looks like a conduit nut is in order there Pics and video. I didn't think about the video until I was halfway into it. With the diff locker finished and the casings painted I got distracted yet again This time with the intent of getting the backend complete and painted I thought I'd make a 3 point hitch. I wanted to say a big "Thank You" to everyone who helped Terry at the big show in PA. Thank you for all the prayers from so many, my family and I deeply appreciate all of you. My dad is currently holding his own, he has good and bad days. He is the greatest man in the world, I have been very blessed to have him as my dad, he will be 82 in Oct. We take everyday as a blessing. Everyday that I can hold his hand and tell him how much I love him is a gift..... You are all the greatest people, I haven't got to meet a lot of you. Maybe I will get to meet you next year at the big show. I know we have a tough road ahead of us. But with all the prayers from so many wonderful people I know we can get through it. Seriously, first check your shifter...if it is sloppy, it just may be a matter of snugging up the dog point set screw and lock nut. With those low hours and lack of information...like did you buy the horse new, did you just get this...I do not want to sit here and just guess what it might be. If those hours are correct, it is not likely an internal issue...unless you are shifting it on the fly all the time and grinding gears.

What size deck do you run or what is the model # of it? ... 36, 42, or 48" wide. That determines what belt is needed. Whatever the length, I would URGE you to NOT buy an after-market belt. It will NOT fit right and result in premature failure. Once you determine what size deck you have, call a Toro dealer for the correct belt. The OEM belt is a few bux more, but well worth the money.

I don't know...with all the information you gave us here...I think I would scrap it.

While at the show I was talking to Terry about this boat and he took it upon himself to research the Wagemaker decal and spend a lot of time getting it right. I went away with the boat to upstate NY to see family and used the boat. When I got back the decals were here to I installed them. Love the look !!

Once again I would like to thank everyone for your support and friendship. As some of you who made it to the BIG BIG Show already know, Lola was unable to be with me this year. Her Dad, Earl has been quite ill for the past year. He is a great guy, whom also loved his garden tractors, though they were a bit of a different color. He has been in the hospital for three weeks and will be moved to a care facility soon. He is terminal and wishes no feeding tubes or the like but he is also a fighter and has put up the good fight. Lola is very close with her Dad and Mom and it has been very tough on her so please accept my sincere thanks for your patience with us during this incredibly difficult time. We are finishing up most of the orders from the show as well as many orders placed on line while I was in PA, and will be shipping them all out the next two days. The clocks will be done next and ship as soon as possible. I can tell you this, I have been spoiled having Lola doing all the work she does keeping orders straight and making sure my production list is right. Making boxes, printing labels, keeping me on target. I feel like an ONAN running on one Cylinder when she is not here. Thanks again for your support. I pulled the unit and found the shifting arm wasn't correctly installed so it wasn't changing gears. Snowhound

Just a follow-up on the green machine. I haven't been losing sleep over this K46 transmission thing, but I do get shivers when I press the foot pedal and the transmission groans at me. I found a bulletin from Tuff Torq explaining how to drain and replace the oil in these transmission. cc K46 K57 T40 MODELS WITH INTERNAL RESERVOIR CHECKING & ADDING OIL.pdf So today's adventure was to remove the tranny, drain the fluid, and replace it with some fully synthetic 5W50 oil. Job is complete and the tractor still runs. The operation of the hydro still seem about the same, but the groan has been reduced to a mild whimper.

Kinda my inspiration just made with a tractor. Make sense? I have always loved the 32-34 ford streetrods, especially the bonneville salt flats cars.

Was poking around on my hard drive tonight and found a couple pics. of the 312 taken the day I brought it home. Really looks ratty. Didn't recall it looking that bad. Now we can really compare.

Thanks Wheel-n-it I may be able to run a compression test on my engine tuesday when I'm off work. I think I have run my engine about 30 hours this summer so the cylinders should be sealed up well by now..

The 1966 and earlier fuel pumps have a priming lever built in to the pump. I have put them on everything I own, even if they sit for a long time all that is needed is to operate the primer a couple of pumps and it will be primed. You can find them in ebay from time to time, they are easy to spot, just look at the photos and you will see the primer lever coming out the botom. Good luck.

This is my 400 and it has the same rims as yours from TSC. The PO had them on it with spacers. they work just fine and painted off white, they look just fine to me. nice find!!
