I and the wife took 83 pictures this year. I put the best ones on here. These first ones, I was walking around for a couple of hours before I realized I was at the wrong show. Actually, they were having an old car show behind the restaurant we ate at in Scotland, Pa the night before the show. Knowing we have many members here that are into these beauties, I could not pass it up. Now the WHCC show pictures. Suburban 550 (Ray), Horsefixer (Duke) and Neil (Neil) Squonk (Mike), Nylyon (Karl) and my wife Chris Squonk walking back and forth... Got to meet this guy at the show. 857 horse (Howard) from Virginia. He had a suburban that he had mounted an 8 speed tranny on. Very cool. It was great talking with you Howard. varosd (Don) and Fun Engineer (Dave) SteveBo and Dave VINYLGUY (Terry), Neil and Carolyn at the Italian Village restaurant on Thursday. That is Stromboli and Terry's and Neil's plate and a 12" Pizza for me. Huge and Delicious. Some shots of the show on Friday... Brrly1 (John) Jake and Doug Kuhn. Jake filled up their pick-up truck with all kinds of stuff. Buckrancher (Brian) with a very special T-Shirt...he said he could have sold a few of them. Don't forget to check out steve's pics WHCC 2014 - 2

I am going to organize a safety course for our younger tractor drivers, maybe have them bring their Wheel Horse that they are going drive letting them show me what they know about the tractors operation. I could check over their Wheel Horse to also make sure it is in safe operating condition. Possibly an easy test and a wrist band to show they have past. I liked the engine cackle with the decibel meter but I am still looking for a way to show the world with the web TV just how many people and Wheel Horses attend the Annual Wheel Horse Show and I have figured out a way BUT BUT BUT It will take major involvement. I was thinking of a DRIVE BY in front of the camera, not like the parade but ....... lets say we mount a camera in a stationary spot and we all just drive by the camera one Wheel Horse right after another. The time and number of Wheel Horses would really show the world that this show is big ! At the show this year Neil and I were talking about world records and maybe we should contact the Guiness Book of World records as the Annual Wheel Horse Show is the largest gathering of Wheel Horse tractors and the largest garden tractor show. As many of you know, I did a back-flip with the Commando 8 while loading it on the trailer to go to the big show. It was a very scary feeling sitting in the drivers seat, seeing the front end of the tractor coming up and over me. I remember saying to myself "this is not going to end well". I think I also said "oh poop" or something similar. Anyway, the Commando ended up on it's right side with my right leg pinned under the hood, just in front of the muffler. There were lots of dents, scrapes, and damage to the Commando, but nothing that can't be fixed before the next big show. As far as me, I suffered a 1 inch laceration just above the ankle, and various scrapes to my leg. Nothing broken, just badly bruised. Somehow, I managed to avoid hitting my head. One week later, I am on the mend nicely, and the tractor runs fine. So, the reason for this post is warn others of the dangers lurking while going up or down a ramp of any height. At the show, many asked me how I managed to flip the tractor on such a low ramp. Well here is how it happened. I was climbing the ramp in a forward direction in 1st gear. When the right rear tire hit the hinge, it began to spin. So I let the tractor drift back slightly, and tried again. Still spun. So, with the tractor in gear, I increased the throttle, depressed the clutch, let it drift to the bottom of the ramp, and when the rear tires hit pavement, my foot slipped off the clutch causing the front end, which was already at an incline, to raise up (wheelie) and flip over me. The moral to this story is DON'T drift backwards down a ramp with the transmission in a forward gear. From now on, I either back the tractor up the ramp or walk beside it.

Some of you will remember that the Tecumseh V70 engine expired on my sons ranger after 40 years. The con rod has snapped and knowing they aren't that reliable (though 40 years isn't bad) I've chosen what I trust to be a better replacement. Here's the Ranger in happier times... and now on my new Ranger maintenance station - my knees are getting too old to crawl on the floor. Parts can be stored underneath out of the way and it's on wheels here's the new Engine ready to drop in, needs the pulley swapping over and a small mod to the chassis to make it fit. I will need to change the ignition switch and fit a solenoid. At least this one has a reasonable charge stator - so we can run some lights!

Mike, no I did not get any of our pie. The Church ladies did not make any this year. Man I was really disapointed. Can we put in a request for some next year? Craig, darn right I'm one of your WH Peeps, and you are one of mine! Me and the Hooch, and my Road Dog Jay will see you next year

Bought a couple of horses several days ago and picked them up today and brought them home. Neither one runs right now and I'm not sure what is wrong with each one, but I got them reasonable and if I have to part one or the other out, I will get my money back and then some! Here are the requested pictures! 1981 C-125 (with a 14 HP Kohler Magnum transplant) 1976 C-160

You know when I was a GM mechanic for over 20 years I used to do it ( rarely ) and see others do it. Get it in your head to over complicate the problem you're trying to solve. Every service manual has trouble trees that you follow to diagnose the problem and people in a hurry like to skip steps for some reason. Human nature I guess. Of course I have seen those same manuals lead you through hours of electrical tests before they say check a certain fuse and bingo it's blown. You would think that would be one of the first steps in a logical diagnosis. So see sometimes even the book is confused. I was a shop foreman for a while and that was the first thing I told mechanics "Don't skip any steps in the trouble tree". Just a little rambling here.

My Raider 10 has been the an excellent mule tractor. It easily handles anything from a 900 pound roller to plowing snow. Interesting to know about the ignition module though. I have about a bit over $300 total invested in the tractor (including purchase two years ago) if that helps on the value.

One of my most fun moments was watching Stevebo from a distance buying out half the table at one of the vendors that just arrived Sat. morning... He was so absorbed in the deal that I snuck up right behind him and plucked a beauty of a K90 out of his trailer that he JUST purchased and hid it across the aisle, my brother and myself were giggling the whole time... When he finally finished his deal and turned around and saw his beauty of a K90 missing, well, the look of astonishment on his face was priceless! If I only had a video camera!

Tom, just thinking here and I might be way off...but if it runs best at high speed and leaks fuel after shut off, could your carb float be off adjustment and there for is dumping too much fuel or too high of a fuel level in the carburetor?

I "have this friend" that has a quad remote helicopter that has an HD camera mounted on it that does live feed or recording. If that seems like a good idea, I can probably arrange that. I'm not sure if we have ever had an aerial view

Hello everyone. My name is Eric. My family and I attended the "Big Show" on Saturday 6/24/2014. We all Had a great time. I had known about the show since I caught the "tractor bug" about four years ago, but was always unable to attend until this year. I have always been a fan of anything mechanical that is "old iron". What ever it may be, it usually stands the test of time, unless Mother Nature takes over and returns the metal to its original state (rust). There is just something about the simplicity and ruggedness of old tractors that attracts my interest in this hobby or "disease" as some refer to it. One of the horses at the show followed me home so I figured the next logical step is to join the forum. The new to me horse is an '88 520h with 599 hours on the clock. This model has been one of my favorites even before I caught the "tractor bug". That big 'ole Onan flywheel that fills the left side of the tractor just emanates power and smoothness. I bought it from a really nice fellow named Randy. Randy was also selling his nicely crafted class 3 hitches, A very handy and versatile accessory. He was located across from the food concession building. As for my new to me 520, I can't wait until I actually get to put it through its paces. But first every thing will be gone through with a fine tooth come. So far so good. It was really dirty but seems to have been maintained well. All the bells and whistles work flawlessly. I'm a bit slow at getting this done because of an injury to my right foot. (A crushed heel that now has quite a few new shiny titanium screws) At least I can ride it; my left (brake) foot still works. You can see my family and I on the Video of Saturdays parade at the 58 minute mark. That's me In the wheelchair. I'll post pictures of the 520 and progress shots of the refresh as soon as I can reduce the size to something suitable for upload. So long for now. Eric

...from the 2014 WHCC show. Thought I'd share a few images, and names(in no particular order)of the people who gathered together this year... and helped to make another show a joy to be a part of. There's no doubt...our Wheelhorse people are what make the show, so it's no wonder why... I already can't wait for the 2015 show, and hope to see you all again next year. All tractors behave and respond differently, IMHO, even between like models. I have to learn each tractor and what makes it tic and I tell this to my boys too. Having said that, my 1992 year make 520H needs only half throttle with choke for starting from cold. Anything more and it will flood. If the wrong person is trying to start it, they can flood it to the point it won't start. Glad you got your tractor going. Now that you've serviced the plugs, are you thinking about a tranny and engine oil/filter change? Might as well replace the air cleaner and grease everything - LOL!!!

New Toro Red is what they named Wheel Horse red when they bought the company. They liked the Wheel Horse red better than their own which I think was the Apple Red (formerly called Toro Red). Regardless, neither of which is the same formula as old Wheel Horse red... as stated... it varied over the years anyway. Just pick one you like and go with it.

We look forward to our annual red neck rodeo here in Texas. Features all brands of lawn tractors and involves water balloons, Frisbees, jousting and many other events on moving tractors. Kind of levels the playing field with our friends that think ther is nothing Like a Z turn unless you have three hands. We raise much money with many things each year and give scholarships Each year to maintain our non profit status. We are showing tractors at our local tractor supply this Sat. I also want to thank Craig. Videos and pics from any garden tractor show, especially WH only shows, is a great way to promote the hobby. I would agree, youngsters must be involved in the hobby to ensure it lives on to future generations. One thing I've learned at 58 years of age is if you are over 50 and haven't grown up yet, you don't have to, ha!

I have not made the time to take pics of the stuff I bought but I certainly will try to do just that this week. Like alot of collectors do, I bought some bits such as adjustable tie rods, fuel tank caps with the gauge, shifter boot, battery hold downs, and a battery tray. The two big ticket items I purchased are a Beautiful Shaker Plate Mounted K-341 from Paul Oldenburg (Old Red Rider) and a Super Nice Wheel Horse Pull Behind Trailer. I purchased the trailer from John's (WallFish) Dad. John tell your Dad I really am thrilled with the trailer he sold me. Your Dad is a good man, and I hope to see him again next year.

Ken: You are going to like that C-160 a lot! I bought a 1990 312-8 today in Spencer, Indiana from a 94 year old man that bought it new in 1990. A one owner! Never had one before. Works great and has a 42 inch rear discharge high end recycler deck on it that is perfect.

For next year's video effort, we'll certainly kick it up a notch. Most importantly, the live feeds are great BUT we need to publish a schedule of events a week or so prior to the show and be ready for the video effort. This year was awkward for me as what now appears to be a hard disk cable failure put my Macbook out of operation and I used an unfamiliar computer to get the recordings going. I really like the idea of the training class, but what I think would be really cool is to follow YOU around Bill as you tour the grounds and work the crowd. You're very active in the show, not shy and I think that the "WHCC Wild Bill Tour" would be a nice segment.

A rodeo course for the kids (18 and under !) would be a good idea. Making a number of red cone zone maneuver challenges would a very good idea! They do it for semi (tractor trailer ) truck drivers so why not for Wheel Horse drivers too!

If you're around the horses for very long you'll hear of the very scarce 1533 differential carriage bearing in the stick shift transmissions. The obvious reason for this is simple - they havent been made for many, many years and what few are around are dwindling at an alarming rate. I had heard of guys "machining" a case to fit an oversize bearing but never knew any details, so being a fairly decent home shop machinist with a nice large Bridgeport type mill and lathe I thought I'd see what I could come up with. With member Groundhog44 having a couple sets of cases the 2 of us started looking. The original 1533 bearing is/was 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 x 1/2" - the nearest thing to that (that I could find!) was a R24-2 rs or zz with its diminsions being 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 x 9/16". With only adding 1/8" diameter and 1/16" thickness the case appeared to have ample 'meat' to handle machining out this amount. This size bearing is very common and is relatively inexpensive, so I got 4 of them to see. The first puzzle was to get the case 'fixtured' on the mill to do the boring - this was stumping me til I called my "machinist by trade" buddy and with his years of experience quickly pointed me in the right direction. He was also able to furnish the 2 heavy steel bars needed to 'hang' the case off the mill table. Let me pause here and state the rather obvious fact - this is not a repair that can be done in most of your shops, but I would think many of you know of, or have friends that have the necessary equipment - and its very possible in the not to far future that a visit to a machine shop may have to be done. In order to get a grasp of what we did, I tried to get enough pics to see the set-up... This is the 2 heavy bars mounted to the table with the mills head swiveled around in order to reach the case that will be mounted off the right front of the table to clear the mills knee. This is the case mounted in the fixture where I am about to locate center of the existing bearing bore in preparation for the boring Here I am starting enlarging the hole. The depth of the hole needed to be increased from the original 1/2" to the 9/16" which is only .0625, but has to be done. I finished this step before enlarging the hole the extra 1/8" (this is only 1/16" off each side) And this is the new bearing sitting in its new home - this is a R24 rs bearing meaning it is a sealed unit, its only necessary to 'pop' out the rubber seal to allow oil to flow through, which I have done here (this same bearing in zz designation is a shielded bearing and doesnt require anything)
