Just finished this up lastnight for the tiller, push mower, and trimmer. And a fresh shot of my old man. Pull start is removed because I need to replace the 3 prongs that engage the flywheel. Been rope starting in the mean time.

Well it's 95% done. Just have to clean up the throttle and choke levers/cables and get them installed and hooked up. Still need a headlight lens and tail light. Other than those few items that's it. I hope to fire it up and take it for a spin tomorrow.

Steve Hillesheim and his wife Chris decided to lay over in Streetsboro, Ohio on their way to the show in Pa., so Karen and I made plans to meet and have dinner with them at Rockne's this evening. We had a great time, good food and beverages! We then wished them a very safe trip on to the show, and wish safe travels to all of you going as well. Steve also presented us with a bottle of Blueberry Especial to take home. It's chilling as we speak for enjoyment later this weekend. Thank you Steve and Chris for a great evening!

I can't wait to see the decals on this, Martin..... And in my opinion, you picked the right seat.

Slip across your northern border and I'll bet you can find a Wheel Horse in Missouri that will fit your "hobby farm"...maybe a C-145 or C-175

I have a couple other builds going on right now... a mud room, spare bedroom, second bathroom... And lets just say the wife prefers those builds over this build...

I'm new to this forum and unfamiliar with the value of "old stuff", so bear with me here a bit. I have a Wheel Horse C-175 (twin 17 Kohler engine) that I purchased in 1981, and replaced just a few years ago, and I am now trying to decide what to do with the C-175. It's got some problems. It starts and runs (with the help of a battery charger and starter fluid), but it runs very rough and seems very under powered. The oil looks fine, but not surprisingly when I did a compression test recently, one cylinder was 90 psi and the other was 0 psi, so the engine will need some major work (broken rod?, new rings?). When I run it for a bit, it also has (a minor?) fluid leak in the transmission area, so it likely will need at least some new seals? Since it's been sitting in the garage for a few years with low tire pressure, I notice a crack in the sidewall of one tire, so I suspect it will need at least one new rear tire. At one point (after I retired I thought I might try and get the C-175 back in shape again myself, but more and more that project appears unlikely to happen. So my quandary is to determine whether this C-175 would still have some value to someone, i.e. should I try and sell it? or should I just scrap it (for whatever the metal is worth)? I do have a number of attachments for the C-175 that I believe do have some value, like a 48" side discharge mower deck, a 42" snow thrower, a 42" lawn sweeper and a 40" mid mount grader blade, and so those attachments I will likely try and sell at some point in the future. Thanks in advance for any advise you might provide for the C-175 tractor. Gary Pirkola .

Found these in a barn. Got them for free!! I wish I had taken before pictures, I was thinking of taking a few parts off and scrapping them myself. They were so covered in dirt, dust and grease they were almost solid grey. The tractor is missing a few parts and the fuel pump doesn't work but it fired right up on starting fluid. Since it started, I figured I'd take it down to work and pressure wash it and see what I really had. When I brought it home my wife said she doubted if I would've gotten them for free if the guy had cleaned them himself. Enjoy the pics Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk Found a before shot, sitting in the barn. Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

NOOOOOOO !!!!! ^ If you're mildly mechanically inclined with the help of the masterminds on here you'll pat yourself on the back when it's all done . You'll have a much better tractor than anything claiming to be equal produced nowadays. Welcome to Red Square .

you don't want the completing kits because they are anywhere from 500 to 1200 bucks just for the kits when I called toro a few years ago

I like your solution to weathered shifter knobs. I hope you don't mind if I "borrow" your solution for my C141. I already picked up a couple of improvements along your journey that I have implemented on my 314.

It's not a rumor; despite it being a vertical shaft, the attachments are supposed to be compatible with the older "classic" tractors. I'm not sure the "completing kits" (idlers, lift arms, etc) are the same, but the attachment itself is supposed to hitch right up. I think Refracman has one that he bought new and he always has reported that the 400XT series were capable, stout machines. Like all the other vertical shaft WH's, they suffer from less than enthusiastic reception from the collecting crowd. Steve

took the steering wheel off #1 and cleaned it up to use on #3. out of the three i have this was the nicest one. came up nice enough, few spots where the wheel is worn and a few little nicks from use over the years. seat came today as well. i went round and round about what seat i would use on this one. i really wanted an original year seat, but i also wanted something new as well. i have had a few different styles of seat, the michigan ones I've used for a few years now, the v3500 is my favorite of them..... and this one i used on the c125, a KM 160 unipro seat...... for the 416 though i wanted some thing that looked a little more 'modern'. i liked the look of the mid height toro seats on the new zero turns, but the price at $175.00 was a little out of my budget. KM manufacturing make a seat the same but without the toro branding on them, this one also has a drain that the toro one doesn't. i liked the mid height seat (15" high) more than the 18-20" high seats that you sometimes see used on these tractors. the mid height seat is a KM 123 unipro and was a more reasonable $91.00 shipped from www.turfseats.com (KM manufacturing web store) i fitted the seat today, it has multiple fitment including the 7.5 x 8 that the later WH tractors have. its getting harder to find that bolt pattern, the 7 x 7.5 is far easier, and i didn't want to be messing around to fit it. the only down side that i can see is all of this style seat is a plastic base. we will see how durable it is. heres how it looks on the 416.... KM seat but Milsco branding....... i cleaned up the shifter knobs as well. the surface was well weathered and the smooth finish was long gone. i rubbed them down with 220, 400 and 600 and clear coated them with some rattle can rustoleum. came out nice and the speckled finish they had from weathering seemed to disappear once the clear went on. i thought i would try it and see how they turned out, i think they will stay for a while....... before..... after....

Take those balance gears out and throw them as far as you can. There will be no noticable difference in how the engine runs. I remove them from every engine I go into. Saves headaches down the road.

What ever you do DON'T scrap it. If you decide to fix it it shouldn't be hard to get her running like a top, and if you decide to sell someone here would love to have it.

Her priorities are right... you'll need the extra rooms when you're both snowed in together.

This should take 2-1/2 quarts with the low oil switch introduced in 1986. After the switch was first used they did take 2 quarts and they revised that and changed the dipstick. I just looked in the chart There is a service bulletin on this and the dipstick change but can't find it at the moment. Garry

Mark, what I do is go by the mfg. capacity chart. Add the recommended amount and adjust dipstick or make new marks on it. So far, so good. You did right by draining crankcase completely.

forest i had the 419XT and i used it to plow for over ten years in maine and mow the grass. The trannys on the XTs are hydro gear 330 series which is better then the 260 series that it replaced.

I do not have pictures of the completed assembly yet. I have been working on trying to get the FEL working, the paint finished and the new decals on but I will put together pictures of the foot pedal assembly soon and post them.I have not yet built in a spring centering mechanism which I intend to do but have not had time. I may have to follow pfrederi's example here and make my own stands. This FEL is a nuisance to mount/dismount on my own and it scratches up the paint when I do. If the lift arms only cleared the wheels it would be easy.

Or you could have Vinyl guy make a 418-8 magnetic sticker for ya. We won't tell!

Here are my cheap homemade stands.Make sure that the 2x4 is long enough to allow the turning brake pedal to pass under the 1/2" rod. After the bucket is flat on the ground and you have removed the mounting bolts and hydro lines put the rod into the tube on the loader frame with the 2x4s angled. The stand on the tractor and lift up on the cross bar. The 2x4s will swing down to vertical and you can roll the tractor back out.

I just converted my D-160 to a foot pedal. Not a hard conversion if you have a bit of welding skill. It is easy to reach the linkage so it is not that complex an assembly to build and I retained the handle control as well.
