5 pointsHello Guys! We've been busy over this way for around three weeks now, building a 11ft x 5ft trailer to transport my machines too and from the shows it's big enough for two tractors and attachments like snowploughs and all my petrol, oil, tools, generators etc, or it's big enough for one tractor and my 4 wheeled cart. It's now finally finished, we tried building the mudguards as well, but they didn't go to plan, and for the sake of £20 we've brought two new plastic mud guards with fitted reflectors, it has a 4ft tailboard that acts just lovely as a ramp to load, takes the weight well, can just drive the tractors straight into the trailer, (makeing sure it's hitched to something otherwise you're asking for disaster to strike. It's very strong, plenty of iron went into the making of this, and plenty of head scratching as well. We've gone for that plant trailer look, it's nothing too special, wouldn't match up to a Brian James, or an iforwilliams but it does the job, was reasonably cheaper and it's not so appetizing and eye drawn by the tea leafs, I'm sure someone would rather steal an ifor Williams before they would this trailer still going all in with the wheel clamps etc though. Never be too careful, It was built from a caravan chassis, Shall I add that it's a very very tight fit, only just goes in with about 3mm gap, well done on the measurements dad

3 pointsBack at again tonight with the kids! We were missing a few due to the fact that they were away at 6th grade camp. They were definitely missed but the extra elbow room was helpful due to the rainy weather outside. We are in a mad dash to the finish line. We will prevail, even though you may doubt us. . Somehow I will get it done! Prayers are appreciated! We have been really blessed here recently. To give a little recap and an update here is what has transpired over the past couple weeks. We received a partially restored C-121 from Clyde Potts in Wooster, OH. We are now able to spread the work out a bit more with so many kids. The kids won the essay contest that many of you saw on here that was promoted by LAGT magazine. Thank you to Mr. Barrett for choosing this fine group of kids. Hoffman's Outdoor Power Equipment located in Etna Green, IN. donated a C-120 for next year. How awesome! Paul aka shorts on here is donating a Raider 12 8 speed for the kids as well. How cool is that?!?!?! A subscriber from LAGT contacted me last week and is donating an early John Deere round fender for the kids as well!!!!!! It will be the first time I will have some green under my finger nails. I am also going to attach some photos from tonight. The first one is a great donation we received today from Larry Polk of Leesburg, IN. Our very own 60 gallon upright air compressor. We are one step closer to being able to sandblast our own parts! Also a big thank you to Ken Townsend for the tractor bling. He is a member here but I am drawing a blank as to what his screen name is. Some fancy lug nut bolts don't you think????? This young man is a great worker. Thomas has some issues with both knee caps right now and is on crutches. He loves club and didn't want to miss out. So we got him his own chair and he did some sanding on the parts for the C-121. He is a real trooper and I am very proud of him. Here is a photo of Simon airing up one of the front tires. This is with our little pancake compressor. Can't wait to have the big one hard wired! Cade is hard at work securing the engine block for the cradle to rest on for the C-121. Here is a shot of dad working with the kids to tighten down some parts. Not much room for all of those hands! The C-120 is coming along. Here are the two tractors before I left. Yikes! We need to get shaking! Also a huge thank you to Mike aka racinfool40 for the tranny parts and helping put it all back together for the club tractor. That was huge! Thank you to Bud Andrews for the monetary donation so these two fine machines can have some new batteries. We have been blessed and are very thankful for everyone that has helped us along our journey. We hope you are enjoying the updates!

3 pointsSo i've been wanting to put together another horse for awhile found and add on craigslist for a complete C80 with blown motor and a stripped Charger 12 guy had a replacement 8hp for the 80 picked them up today here are some picture for my fellow horse men.

3 pointsWhen I lived in Chicago, I belonged to a Traction group of modelers. More time was available to me then and I even did custom work for others including the local transit agency. The group built a module layout in 1975 that is still displayed to this day annually at Trainfest in Milwaukee. I am actually an O Scale Traction modeler that unfortunately liked too much HO scale equipment. So far, I haven't had the chance to build something here in Maryland. Too much outside work (that I enjoy), and of course the tractors. So it remains boxed and at times sold off on eBay. There are also brass models, wood boats and plastic models. Another half of the collection is stored in another room. Here is a shot of that layout from 2007. Yes, the cars collect power from the overhead.

1 pointWheel horse's are my first and most favorite tractor to collect and restore but having said that I find that I really like a few other brands and wanted to add them to my herd too the old round nose Bolens tractors are one of these I always thought they were cool looking I happened to be telling a coworker this that work one day and he looks at me and says I think there is one of them sitting in a hedge row at my moms house who'd a thought I have only been working with the guy for 30 years. anyway he promised to take a picture I went and picked her up the following saturday she was very rough that was a year ago in apirl I have been working on restoring her off and on for a year now. I wish I had taken some pics before I turned her in to a pile of rusty parts many parts were replaced with new pieces I built as they were very badly pitted some need repairing like this pulley's bad key way or totally rebuilt like this belt cover

1 pointSitting in my garage on Sunday, when a neighbor stops by. He hesitates for bit and then asks if I want another old tractor. Being careful I say maybe depending on what it is. He tells me it is a Toro. I am thinking it might be one of the newer models and I am not sure I will be interested but decide to take a look anyway. He drives his truck around back and I discover it is a 416H, with a very good deck and plow. Not wanting to seem to joyous, I carefully ask what he wants for it. He tells me I can have it that he was going to take it to the dump. This guy has become my favorite neighbor!!!!!!!!

1 pointDifferential bolt failed got wedged between the gear and the case and broke the case. You will need a left side case and new bolts for the differential (Grade 8 or 9)

1 pointNice huh?? daveoman... Give me a couple days to clean mine up and disassemble. I think my best option, if I decide to repair, is for you to ship one half of the gearcase and any other parts I need. Traveling to your zip would be an adventure and would cost me more in fuel than it would for you to ship the parts. thanks guys. This place is great.

1 pointI am working a C-160 that seemed to be down on power and rpms so I decided I would pull the carb and head so that I could clean them up and inspect the engine some. I found a leaking head gasket and a worn throttle shaft and a little carbon build up. The head ended up being warped but I ran it back and forth on a piece of sandpaper on my surface plate and in no time it was back in spec. I checked the bore and there is minimal wear. There is no ridge at the top of the cylinder either. The tractor does not smoke or use oil. When I was cleaning the top of the piston I noticed the piston will move back and forth with in the cylinder with some pressure. My question is this normal? I really don't want to take this thing apart to measure the piston and see if it is within tolerance with the bore. It has been awhile since I have rebuilt a engine so I can not remember if that happened before or not. I figure that it has to have some movement to compensate for expanding when it warms up. Long story short is this normal? Thank you, Chris.

1 pointI would lowball the 314-H since you know the oil wasnt changed. These are pretty tough engines, and like you said a hone and new rings + gaskets it will probably be running like new. At least with the constant oil adding like you said it may have been "changed" once or twice already. I think the hydro should be just fine at only 257 hrs even with no oil changes.

1 pointI really like what you are doing...fixing up horses and maybe selling them to buy more to fix up. While I agree we need some parts guys...it is nice to see some one fixing up horses and selling them whole. BTW...keep the Black hood.

1 pointalso - Deere used the Techy engines in that time frame. You may be able to snag a regulator from an old model Deere tractor.

1 pointChas, as long as neither stator wire is grounded to the engine, the regulators should be the same for Kohler or Tecky engines. Start as you normally would by measuring the AC voltage from the stator. As with a Kohler, the AC output should be 30 volts or above at full throttle. If the stator is the issue, and you have a solid state ignition, then yes, finding a replacement is going to be fun, They are available but they are pricey. You may luck out and just have a few corroded connections in the charge system. The -30 amps is surprising. I would not have expected to see such as large discharge rate from battery. I'll be on and off the forum over the next few days - quite a bit of traveling lately.

1 pointI have come to appreciate the old saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure.I have been pleasantly surprised many times by the things some folks want to give you. There has been a few times I have repaired something that was given to me and I offered it back to the person for the price of repair.They have never taken one back,but the repair was so simple I wanted to make the gesture. I had an old fellow buy a Crapsman lawn tractor from me a couple weeks ago.After we made the deal he said I have this Murry I want you to take with you when you deliver this.I was surprised to find a nice little Murray with hydrostat,that he said "it wont ever start,the blades are hitting each other,I just want it gone".Well I spent 30. for a new battery,fixed the wires to the clutch pedal that someone had taped together and grounded the coil.The metal on the grass deflector was bent down and hitting the blade.He didn't want to ever see it again,I sold it for the same price that I sold the Crapsman for. But I never got a freebee like that 416-H,I traveled a couple hundred miles and paid big for my 417-A

1 pointPutting diesel in a gas engine is harmless to the fuel system. Going the other way will make short work of a diesel injection system...... So if the choke is off, and assuming the air filter off, open the throtlle to full on your cable. When the governor arm opens up and the engine sounds like it is overfueling (black smoke) begin adjusting the main jet clockwise until the engine runs perfect. Once you get it running perfect, most manuals have you turn the jet in until it runs rough, then back out (counter clockwise) until it runs rough again, and then go right in the middle for you final adjustment. This always works great for me. If during operation it needs another fine ajustment, then I will consider it. On the idle mixture screw, when the engine is at idle, and you open the throttle full very quickly, the engine should not die down and then pick up. That would indicate you need to turn the mixure screw counter clockwise until it accelerates smooth. If you open the throttle quick and the engine accelerated but you get a puff of black at anytime during this transition, then you need to turn the mixture screw clockwise to lean it out. The air filter element will get destroyed if diesel gets on it. It is bascially an oil and will block the paper from flowing air.

1 pointthe 1077 only had the small stirrup style foot rest, if your trying to add long full running boards, I'm sure it can be done but not a bolt on, you will need to add a cross bar at the top under the fender to attach them to, there will not be any center mount locations, and the 1077 has a narrower fender than the raider so where the board meets the fender will not line up right. Good luck.

1 pointthe biggest problem was the motor a kohler K160 was missing the complete ignition system. one finally came up on E-Bay and I got it I assembled the motor and got her started I just wanted to see if the old girl would still run before I did a complete rebuild getting the painting done

1 pointOh yeah, I wax and polish compound mine too. In between that I use car detail "Spray and Wipe" then "ArmorAll" the tires. But I'm not the least bit OCD about my Wheel Horses. No not me
