2 pointsI am taking the wheels tomorrow to have them sandblasted and powder coated. I'm not sure what colors they will have available. Looks like I should be shooting for an antique white or cream color. Thanks for all the help.

2 pointsThis is another Native Brown on the stream beside camp. He went back in after his picture was taken! (You can't eat them all)!

1 pointOK - I am starting a thread here because my restoration thread is getting long and I want to chronicle my transmission rebuild because 1 - I'm an idiot 2 - I can remember how to do it 3 - I need help 4 - maybe this will help someone in the future I have two transmissions - and neither work - one broke an axle and when taking it apart I did not follow the instructions and gears went everywhere. The second - which is what the pictures are of - is a transmission that has been worked on before, but after getting it apart the gears get caught - it feels like there is a piece of metal somewhere in the gears - So I am taking it apart. I have tried to follow the manual - and not being as mechanically inclined as most of you here - and not being able to read all of the pics on the manual I downloaded - I am goignt o sentence by sentence diagram how to disassemble and reassemble a transmission. I have looked at the other threads and they are to advanced for me. There are 26 steps to disassemble an 8 spd transmission. Through shear stupidity and luck I finished the first 10 steps. this involves getting the transmission off the tractor and getting it split in half. I was actually able to follow the directions for that and do not have step by step pics. So we are going to step 11: Shift the 2nd and high shift fork assembly up into the 2nd speed position. I have no idea what this means so please someone tell me. I have included the pics below, but I need to know what is high and what is 2nd. High gear - the screwdriver is in the low/high shifter. Left is low and right is high, so therefore: And low gear Neutral: So I am good so far, but now what is what? front shifter up: what gear? rear shifter up: What gear? front shifter down: What gear? rear shifter down: What gear? Let me know and I will go to step 12.

1 pointSo, yesterday was a beautiful day in Cleveland.... My neighbor was working on my Caddy.. New A/C pump, rear rotors and pads... So I decide to liven up the work atmosphere... I go and get some morters.. 2" morters to be percise.. I light the first one off, and it rocks the garage..... Beautiful display in the sky. Next one is a nice red, white and blue crackling... The 3rd one was purple and gold diamonds. Just as we light the 4th one off, up pull 3 squad cars and 5 officers... You have got to be kidding me... They said someone complained about gun shots.... Really!!! Gun shots.. Come on. There is a HUGE difference between the sound of a gun and 2" morters. So the cops ask for ID's/ I tell the cops it was all on me and everyone else there had nothing to do with it.. I walk back to one of the squad cars to give the office all my information.... One of the cops ask me, "so are there any warrents out for you that I am going to find?" I said no, no warrents on any of us... Well, little did I know my neighbors brother decided to skip court on Thursday... I hear on the scanner the guys name and there is a warrent for his arrest for a traffic violation... Now I really fell like an a$$... Had it not been for me shooting off the morters the cops never would have came....What a day breaker... The kicker to it is all summer last year someone was shooting some sort of fireworks off...I never saw any squad cars come and investigate any of the firworks last year...They end up giving me a ticket, that I have to go appear in court for the fine... No fines listed on the ticket anymore, just a court date and a time. WOW, what a way to now even make more money for the goverment that is already a mess... So I now have no right to just pay the fine, I am forced to appear in court, pay a fine, and court fees.... Just for lighting some fireworks off..... Yet some guy selling dope on the streeets may get arrested, may not, and he or she is back on the streets the same day.... I sure am glad I dedicated 4 years of my life for this fine country...... What a hoot.... Any way... April 25th if the court date....Stay tuned!!!!!

1 pointHi! I just wonder if this roller is a original Wheel Horse part attachment? How will I mount it on my WH charger 12? Regards Kludden

1 pointJust picked this up yesterday from a relative. 2nd owner tractor with 1359 hours. I always liked the Suburban 400 tractors and last year I finally got a Suburban 550? and a RJ58/59. This year I got this. I see a trend. Anyways, its a real nice tractor.

1 pointEveryone, Some of our garden tractor Brethren on the John Deere section of mytractors forum have put up some postings on the Onan's used on the JD318 model garden tractor (and maybe some other models) and the problems/solutions they have found. I think some of this stuff is applicable to our Onan powered Wheelhorse tractors. I posted a link to Redsquare over there and thought I'd do the same here. I feel the more info on the Onans the better - regardless of tractor color. Here is the link: http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=560282 Hopefully this is helpful. Thanks! Bill

1 pointevening all, finally getting my mower deck sorted, I need a drive belt from the engine to the deck, and it'll probably be wise to renew the spindle drive belt to the blades. I have scrutinised the charts here but can't get my head around the columns of figures. If anyone could give me either a part number or equivalent it'd be a big help. My horse is a Raider 10, id tag reads 71-10K8 160443; its a belgian assembled one. deck is a 36inch rear discharge. many thanks. incidentally my Wheel Horse is proving its worth, well patinated, to put it mildly, my neighbour, who has a new green thing, and being young-ish thinks if it ain't shiny it won't work, was well impressed with the old girl as she screwed her way through the hub deep muck in our wood; even more when I loaded up a big trailer with timber and it made no difference, she just tugged away. cleat tyres though. and itll take a bump, being made of steel instead of plastic.

1 pointWhat color does everyone use for their wheels? The original is not really white, but it looks like a lot of the restorations use plain white. Looking for your thoughts.

1 pointMike, good point, the Onan has the higher crank center line, (or is that centreline?) by 3/4" than the Kohler single, not sure about the twin though? i measured the b and s on the GT1848 and its very close if not the same at the engine end as the Onan, they do differ a little at the hood stand, but i think it wouldn't matter..... (length between the Onan and B and S looks to be almost the same, but not exact.......) the Onan and Kohler lengths look to be the same. the Onan belt guard being higher, doesn't really have any more room though, as its just 'pushed' up (top and bottom raised up 3/4) and not stretched in height, so that in itself would be something to look out for. if you have an 8 speed with the correct belt guard for the tractor/engine combo (and stay with that combo) that wouldn't be an issue if changing to a hydro pulley as there is room for the extra diameter and you aren't moving the crank centerline up or down......

1 pointThis is my Step-Grandson with a 13 inch native Brown Trout from the little Class A Wild Trout Stream by the camp.
-
1 pointJust an additional point on belt guards for the 3,4,500 tractors - Kohler powered (single cyl) tractors use a different belt guard than the Onan powered tractors. I dont remember which engine has the higher crankshaft, but the belt guard is different to compensate. Its only about 3/4" difference, but it is useful in some instances.

1 pointJust back from camp tonight! This weekend goes by so fast! Few pics coming. We stayed on the native trout streams locally and did well using redfin minnows. (Black-nosed Dace). Did a selfie with an 18 inch Native Brown.

1 pointI use to use Rustoleum Canvas White but I have recently switched to Antique White! Seems very close to the early 1960's wheel paint color.

1 pointdeciding on the "correct" wheel/tractor/engine paint etc is a personal choice...there are no paint police!! double tap!

1 pointSpent a few hours on it today, and I am very pleased with the result. I think that I will reapply new "Super Power" decals on the hood (they're cursive in yellow and below the name) and leave it at that. Found that the one tire has a big crack in the sidewall so I may have to put tires on it eventually. Then I will paint the wheels the correct green. The engine could use paint, although it is grey and restored units in pictures show black. More things to research! Now to find a sulky or cart. They have the brakes to stop with.

1 pointWelcome back Sutty! Additional pictures of the C-140 would be more than appreciated. Four years later and yours is still the only one I have "seen"!

1 pointNeil - are you into railroading at all? The B&O (Baltimore & Ohio) Railroad has an excellent museum in Baltimore. We used to have a family pass to take the first grandson there when he was totally into trains, then we dropped it when his interests went elsewhere. I still love the place. Link: http://www.borail.org/ The Baltimore Orioles (major league baseball) will be having a home stand the week of June 22 through July 3. Three games against the Chicago White Sox, three games against the Tampa Bay Rays, and four games against the Texas Rangers. Link: http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=bal There's always something to see in Gettysburg Link: http://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/index.htm or Antietam Battle Field Link: http://www.nps.gov/anti/index.htm Baltimore has one of the best Aquariums in the States Link: http://www.aqua.org/ There are so many other things to do in Baltimore Link: https://www.google.com/#q=things+to+do+in+baltimore So, having said that, I will let those in other parts of the country post their ideas. Can't wait to see you at the show.

1 pointMajor bummer for me! I've been looking for one of these for 20 years, and one finally pops up reasonably close to home - and in good condition - at a great price and I'm asleep at the wheel. Anybody comes up with one of these in equivalent shape be sure to let me know I have plenty of trading material! Steve

1 pointThe bandit was out again with this as I only paid $100.00 for it. PLUS - the guy delivered it for me so no rear view mirror shot! The tires are Mansfield 6.50-16. The tread is aged but the sidewalls are decent. I have only taken it for a few "walks" as I am still recovering from foot surgery. The outside of the hood may have been repainted at one time as it has a rough finish but not too scratched. But the frame looks original and not faded. Today I'm going to change the fluids, try polishing what I can, and put some tire paint on the tires. The gas line is a bit cobbled but the tank looks to be in good shape compared to some I have seen. No rust, at least inside on the top where I can feel. I'll scope it with my HF snake camera as well to be sure. The Briggs 8 is sure a small engine. The economy model only had 1 1/2 hp so I'm glad I got the "big" engine! But, Mike, I don't think that it could handle dualies. Craig, I have been looking at the HF Trailer Dolly to see if I could adapt that until I can find an original. It has to have a U-bend bracket to ride on the saddle bracket to get under the transmission as the hitching point is at the front. The original actually flexed at the saddle bracket. Love the kickstand!

1 pointWhat a tribute and joy Elmer must have felt when he witnessed all the interest and happiness his product had created in so many people. Its really hard to grasp how these little tractors have become not only such a big part of our lives but how they also have changed us. The amount of quality time they have provided specially with our children is really incredible. The opportunity also to meet and interact with so many great and tallented people from all over and have the opportunity to learn so much from them about things that most likely we would never get into. I have noticed that when people are admiring these little tractors particularly round hoods, there is just something hipnotic about them. Even through conversation about other lawn tractors, everyone agrees that there just is something about a wheelhorse that is just captivates you. So having said all of that , I give Elmer and Cecil a big THANK YOU for making something that has not only changed my life but also the life of my children and grandchildren in such a positive way.

1 pointThe only time I see a loose hub on a Wheel Horse is one covered in grease from a leaky oil seal. The two bolt hubs do keep the hub from wearing better but I think that a lot of bad oil seals is the prime culprit Jim!

1 pointhi there guys and gals, how many tractor brands used wheel horse tractors/how many wheel horse tractors were badged as different makes? i was browsing the german ebay and found these(well they were the same) and i know wheel horses were badged as norlett, are there any more? Koen

1 pointDid some discing in the garden. Didn't really accomplish anything but wasn't expecting to. I just wanted to do something with my 416-8 repowered with a new 20 horse Onan.

1 pointThere is not camping at mentone in the spring....people show up continously through the morning, setup time does not really matter but many people get there around 8 or earlier. Last year we crashed along the way and didn't end up getting there until noon.

1 pointI've done a little research as well. Seems Viking started in Austria in 1981 by making garden shredders. According to their site in 1984 they began developing their own line of lawn mowers which, based on a photo looks much like a Mountfield push along rotary mower. They don't mention Toro/Wheel Horse but my guess would be that (like Mountfield in the UK) building LTs from scratch was beyond their ability. Mountfield's solution was to become Wheel Horse distributers, it seems Vikings solution was to buy in parts from Toro / Wheel Horse and assemble them in Austria. Seems they've always had the green and silver colour scheme. Andy

1 pointOn Saturday the little Electro went to Cajun Model Fest here in Baton Rouge and did alright. After winning in its class it took "Best Auto" which is one of the top level prizes. It might be a bit of a stretch to call it an auto but I was able to enter it as an off-road vehicle which made it eligible in the Automotive category. Thanks to all the Red Square members for the enthusiastic support. It wouldn't have been such a success without you!

1 pointI disagree, I think Jason bought a nice tractor at a nice price. If he did anything else with it, that's his choice. I never hear this negative stuff posted toward others that find a great buy on a tractor. I have read in the past some of you not happy with him buying/selling, but you guys fueling the fire, then getting all wound up over it? I guess you have a right to be upset that it was listed on eBay already, but what is the the appropriate time frame from a buy to a sell ....and who is the authority on this? If I can buy one today and have it sold yesterday that is fine with me, it's no one else's business. I believe Jason is over 18 and the seller also over 18. The business Jason works for makes money, why should he not be able to do the same. I find it hard to believe that others on here would pay more then someone's asking price, let alone telling them the value and then paying them the actual value. I remember a post in '07 that an early member made on another site saying something like....."The guy I got it from just wanted to get this "old" tractor out of the garage (it's been garage kept since new too). So I kept my big mouth shut, loaded the trailer, handed him the cash and shook his hand then got out of there before he realized what he'd done. " Time and time again guys on here are complaining about finding tractors that are out there, but the owners think they are gold and too pricey. You can look right in the venders section here and see that they are bought to resell for a profit, I don't see the negative posts toward those guys. What's the big difference? Talk about taking the wind out of a guys sail. Very nice tractor Jason..... The only comment here is I am jealous I didn't find it first, but then again so are others.

1 pointVery nice looking GT and attachments. Thanks for the photos.

1 pointIf you don't have power to headlights or starter, you probably don't have power to the switch. Or the switch is bad and not passing power to the accessorys in the run position and the starter in the start position. You need a volt- -ohm meter to check the switch.

1 pointYOUR ALL A BUNCH OF HOODLUMS .. running around on those thingys ,mowing & blowing snow everywhere.... And now BOMBS You all need a good tazzering .... . Mind you ..I am writing a letter to the authorities on ALL of you characters .....

1 pointFirst of all, Welcome to . The C-165 is a very bad tractor. Nothing but trouble. I think you should just bring it up here. And, I will put it next to the troublesome C-165 I have. That way it can never bother you again. . It is a great tractor. Mine is the hardest worker I have. I use it for everything and it doesn't whine about it . You will love it. And of course, this will just be the tip of the Iceberg. You may become addicted. You can't say you weren't warned . Good Luck.

1 pointI bought this one for rims 12" or less. It is not rated for anything bigger than 12" and I would not recommend trying. I use mine for front tires only. Anything bigger I either do by hand or take to a service station. Although the larger model will handle tires down to 8", I understand the problem is the hub center of a garden tractor style wheel is too small to fit over the center of the larger changer. It's made more for ATV/golf cart wheels or whatever with larger hub centers. Hope that helps :handgestures-fingerscrossed:
