Having finally got the GT's 3 point finished yesterday, I wanted a relaxed but fun day today before I start on some serious rust repairs tomorrow.. So Pete and I decided to go for a little drive on the GT to have a look for good places that would be a challenge for my 6x6 and Nigel's Noddy Holder.. The looking didn't last too long as it was such a nice restful place down in the valley, lot's of wild flowers, the sounds of birds chattering and a babbling stream.. I love it down there Sorry about the quality of these first four photo's, my video camera is much better at video than stills.. It's a shame that the orchids around here grow blurred! And then suddenly an idea I have had floating around for a long time popped into my head!! So back to base for a quick bit of lunch, and then back on the GT for another drive in the opposite direction this time armed with a good camera So welcome to the first 3 of my "Clocks out of context" series.. This ones called "A crack in time".. "Time for a hanging" The next two are simply called "Don't jump" 1 and 2 As an added bonus here's "Don't jump with colour" I love the colours on the bricks, lump of rock and the tree root. A beautiful spot with the sun shining on the stream. Have a couple of the bridge brickwork.. My area is well known for clay pits and brick making, so I guess there bricks are slowly returning back to nature.. I'm not sure Pete would of driven over the bridge had known of the big crack in it at the time And that's been my relaxed fun day.... Fun eh

Hello, I've been looking over the fence for quite a while so I'll thought I'd stop skulking around and join. I own a 72 Bronco 14 that has been rode hard and put away wet to many times. The funny thing is, if still runs great. I'm looking forward to receiving good advice, I have a lot of question!

Thanks folks. I had all but given up hope since I live down here. I had an opportunity when I was up in northern Indiana last fall but family issues made the logistics just too much to handle and I had to set my priorities. I figured a few members here saw it on Ebay. There was only one other bidder but that didn't surprise me much down here. I think the $286 it cost me was a decent deal. Not a steal but I really wanted it. I knew I needed to seize the opportunity when it was slapping me in the face. When I told my wife about it tonight she just grinned. The fact that it's the same model my Dad first had meant a lot to her as well. No worries about the pictures. I'll be snapping away tomorrow.

I know this is NOTHING that you would do with this project however this is how I did a repair job on my 953 rim that was rotted around the original valve stem hole.... A little JB weld with a quarter covering the old hole and rust and drilled a new hole in a solid spot then tubed it.

Last week I was going through the Ebay postings. Wheel Horses, especially round hoods, in Florida are as scarce as snow in Key West. But.......I found one and it was 15 miles from me. I contacted the seller and went to look at it. A Surburban 400!!!!! That was really cool to me because that's the very model that was my Dad's first Wheel Horse in 1960 when I was 6 years old. The hood in all there and in decent shape. The tool box and fenders were pristine. The K91 ran real well but he had installed a crankshaft from a generator and it had a tapered shaft. He welded a pulley on it. He did a pretty nice job but that's gotta go. The tranny jumps out of 3rd but I'm not concerned about tearing into it and making it right. He removed all the plastic from the steering wheel because it was cracking bad. It won't be hard to remove because he had cut it to get it off the shaft and it was just bolted on. Here's the resto tractor I've been looking for . I really don't see anything that should be a problem. The first thing I'll do is flush the tranny and then it will be reduced to kit form. Of course I'll be on here looking for some parts when I confirm what I need. Yea, I know. I'm lying unless there pictures. The plan is to pick it up tomorrow morning and then I'll post pictures of the 'before'.

Wifey was scrolling though the classifieds and tripped over this little guy for $100. 1991 520-H with rear discharge 42" deck. 40 miles round trip, but I could not get out there fast enough. Previous owner says he is not mechanically inclined. It tossed a belt and he then let the battery sit dead over the winter. He installed a new battery this year but no start ~ thus the sale. I bought a deck belt from the toro dealer this morning, I still need to source a drive belt. It needs lots of cleaning but over all it looks to be in good shape (Seat is clean / no rips). Came with original sales brochure and owners / service manual. Wifey was reading about them BAJA testing the WHeelhorse mowers 500 miles ~ to advertise that they were Baja tough. Funny cause I don't recall seeing many lawns out in Baja back country. ~ I picked up a late 80's 38" Wheel Horse back in 2008 for Wifey's aunt. It has been a solid performer. Here is Wifey's find ~ still in the back of the truck. It needs some cleaning and TLC. I'm hoping to find all of the tricks to make it back to a prized possession worthy of a place in Grandad's garage.

Wanted to get some opinions on the restoration of a C-120. The sheet metal is in desperate need of a paint job. It has some severe pitting, but no rust through. The hood has a dent in the front, that can probably be pounded out. I am thinking about taking of all the sheet metal and just repainting that. Should I try and get a paint to match what is left on the frame? It looks to be in pretty good shape. I will know more when I start to take it apart. I'm not looking for a show piece, but would like it to look nice. I can't see myself taking all the time to strip everything, like I have seen on some of the other restorations on this site. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just got the new agriculture tread tires for the rear today. Anyone have a lead on reasonable tri-rib tires for the front? Cheapest I have found is $70 a piece.

This is about a tractor I got a couple years ago for Christmas. This is what it looked like before we started restoring it. We're restoring it because I wanted to put new decals on it and dad was tired of messing around with the engine. We started last Friday because plowing season was almost over here and we figured why not start now. We cleared a spot in the shed and put it on a bench so I could take it apart. We finished on Sunday the same weekend. Dad was cleaning parts with the wire wheel, while I was taking it apart. Dad started sandblasting on Monday and painted every day that week. Dad got most of it done Friday night, so I could get started putting it back together on Saturday. I put as much as I could together that day. We still need some transmission seals, a front rim and a clutch rod and stud. Dad also ordered me a new engine and parts to make new tie rods. I thought Dad was crazy when he made me clean the rust off the lift lever with Brillo pads and Coke! It worked like magic! We also flushed the transmission with lacquer thinner to remove the 46 year old fluid. I will post more when the parts come and we install them.

I was looking to add some extra visibility to my tractor while working on the airport runways. Pilots are way better at being aware than most motorists while plowing an blowing at night. I thought I would share what I have come up with. I have installed some alternating flashing lights on the rear of my C-100 I installed a nice little NAPA bus to the positive post of the battery. Then I installed a simple single pole single throw switch in the panel. I purchased a Grote 44730 alternating flasher. This flasher will flash the left an fright side lights at alternating intervals. There are three posts on the flasher. One for the positive lead from the switch, and one for left and one for right side lights. I did come to find out that this flasher will not function with LED lights without also adding a load resistor to the circuit due to the fact that LEDs don't pull enough juice to activate the flasher. I opted for regular incandescent lights to avoid adding the resistors. I have a short video of the finished lights, but I'm not sure how to attach it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Stevebo gave me a call that his cousin Toddbo was looking to sell his Commando 8. I really didn't know where this tractor would fit in with my collection but after thinking about it over night I decided to grab it. Besides it was only a two mile trip to Toddbo's place to pick it up! I decided to part ways with my 657 wood hauler. The Commando 8 has factory lights and a charging system with a battery, something the 657 lacked. Though the factory lights aren't the brightest they'll do when I need to clear snow at night with it. No need to light up the neighbor hood, just a few feet in front of me will do the trick. I'm only going to throw a new seat at it and call it done.

Found a good deal on a tractor, deck and blade. Previous owner thinks it has a broken rod. No problem as I've got a decent spare that's the correct engine. Current motor has a two pulley generator, flywheel pulley and belt guard. Will learn more when I pull it in the garage tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

Mad Ian, but looks like fun. What the flip made you think of taking a clock with you? The speed of most horses you should have taken a calendar :D

Bob, Hmmm the bottom rim looks quite sad but the one above looks salavagable , not teaching you to suck eggs, but could`nt you just weld some steel bands on the inside of the rims to strengthen the rim up then tidy up things on the outside by spot welding then grinding back to shape???? the strength will be on the inside of the rim and the outside could cosmetically be doctored up , i know this would not be ideal but it may get you by until another rim shows up in the future . Fortunatley these tractors are not high speed tractors so i dont think it would impede on the safety element to much . Still , im sure you know the best way to attack this problem , just though i would chuck a few ideas out there

Tonight I removed the second front rim and then demounted the tires. I took them over to my Pal's Brian's Shop And the MASTER BLASTER gave them a blast from the past. The two fronts came out beautiful the rears were a different story. One of the rims will need a WHOLE LOTTA LOVIN to bring it back. I will need to love it real good with the tig welder, then I'm gonna love it real good with Some Lab Metal. All I can say is there is gonna be a whole lotta lovin going on over at the Duke's Place. Here's some pic's of the Master Blaster at work and the rims. ~Duke LAB METAL LINK BELOW

Hey - no worries! Just trolling for info to add to my memory banks - while I can still remember... Don't make any special efforts on my behalf - no urgent need at hand. I know I read a fair amount of posts on splitting a tranny, I thought off hand someone might have encountered this a few times - which sounds like what you and TT are wading into. Thanks! Bill

Nice! Those are some serious air holes in the belt guard! Speeding up going down hill is normal for the Eatons too. The fix is Matts foot control kit and if you like the tractor now, get the kit installed and you'd think you were driving a new 2014 hydro tractor!!!!

A 14 hp Wheelhorse is far from underpowered, especially if you limit it to a 48 inch deck. If I had one or two tractors, I'd do a repowering with a vanguard or Honda twin. But I've only got 10 or 11 tractors and really what I need to do is thin out the fleet - LOL!!!! I've got 3 Wheelhorse tractors that are in great shape and I would spend a fair amount do $$$'s to keep as original as possible, less adding a swept fwd axle and gear reduction steering. One is a '88 year 520H, one is a ’92 year make 520H and the other is my beloved 314-8 which I bought new. I have two other 520H tractors that are late models and these are my lab for trying out any new ideas like this heart transplant and face lift. Thanks everyone!!!!!

Yes -not the greatest close-up but they are on the B-80 on the bolts around the shifter frame. And they are on the 1967 Lawn Ranger around several locations, the belt guard and shifter frame, etc. JUST CLICK ON THE PICTURE TO MAKE IT A LOT BIGGER AND YOU CAN SEE THE HEX BOLT COVERS!

Or like here standing water. I probably need to have a good 2 weeks of dry weather before I can get out on the lawn. Then I have about 5 dump cart loads of pine cones to pick up first.

Thats great Ed that you got this one going without too much headache and $$$. Sometimes they take some expensive parts to make them run and it gets tough to decide if its really worth it if you don't know the condition of the engine.... We will be here to help you through the electrical when the time comes.......

I used 12mm coach bolts, squares were a good fit in the wheel centres as said above they are heavy the worst bit is getting them in the middle so they run true, its easier to do it with the wheels fitted and tractor jacked up so you can spin the wheel to check there in line. James

If those holes are the same in both ends of the lift bars they are 7/8" or 22.225 mm for your side of the pond.

Where Do Old Bumper Cars Go? The ones in Westview Park or Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh or many other amusement parks from around the country in the 50's & 60's. They ran on electric . Had a pole on the back going to a metal electrical charged overhead cage. Remember driving the bumper cars at amusement parks or on the Boardwalk, don't you? They were so much fun. Well, now what do you do with old Bumper Cars? (and check out the license plates!) WHO KNEW? Yes, you read that right; these little beauties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in too long. There are seven of these little monsters floating around California and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike Amusement Park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder Vibration and Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750's And a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH, which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase. By the way, they are almost indestructible in accidents!

It would actually be a 95-36XR00 deck (1979) and the PTO to deck belt is P/N 106533 as Paul has already posted. P/N 107765 is actually the PTO pulley.
