Thought I better brace up the roof over my sun room. There is 8" of heavy snow from last Monday and 1" of ice from last Wed., and 14" forcast for tonight. If this doesn't hold it up, I'll go to plan "B" Plan "B" 1. call the insurance company 2. kick back and wait for spring

Well I had to dig a part of a auto 18 wheel horse tractor I thought it would be a cool picture take of the boneyard. hint this would be a great candidate pocture for next year's 2015 calendar. Thats about 2 feet of snow out there....Cant wait for spring

Scored a good cab yesterday on Craig's List! good fabric, one cut in the plastic window, one missing bracket. but not bad for a buck and a half So it wasn't to bad out after work I decided to see how it fit on my 417A blower tractor. Didn't fit at all! The frame was welded together and noticed it was way to short. So I cut the up rights and added 3" to the rear and 5" to the front. Why would some one want it to be shorter? All I could come up with is it didn't fit in there shed. Oh well it is working for me the way it is tell spring when I make a new frame with a glass front window. It has made snow blowing so much nicer!! Can't believe I waited this long to do this. It's know enjoyable to use this tractor in the winter!!! I always hatted to blow snow as I new I was going to be a snow man when I was done, but know after giving it a test drive with the cab on, I was nice and dry, and actually much warmer too.

Getting in and out is a chore indeed. Especially if you are a short old fat guy like me. The older smaller style is especially tough and if it is a manual it's even tougher. The new style that are a Little bigger are not much better. I think it's harder to try and get out of one after you have been in there for a long time and your stiff and cold. They are a great measurement to how old your getting. Each year seems to be just a tad more challenging. Still even with the challenge of getting on and off I would not trade it for the world. There is no comparison to blowing or plowing snow with one on. No snow in the face or down the neck= PRICELESS! Oh yeah, if you have been plowing or blowing snow for a few hours and you become stiff and you try and get out and the tractor is still running and it's a manual, you might just bump the gear shift because you can't raise your leg high enough. This can happen I assure you. There you will be one leg on the ground one still stuck up in the tractor and away you go. Not a pretty picture of a short fat guy being drug out of the garage hanging out of the tractor heading for the first snow pile. No not a pretty picture at all.

Its not the snow that needs to stop...Its the sub ZERO temps we are having!!! Love the snow.

Aluminum foil to clean them and wax to keep them. Do a youtube search for using foil to clean chrome. I was surprised how well it works and it works without leaving scratch marks. here's one video but I just use water. Haven't tried the Coke or Vinegar yet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkHyARsjNEg I use this method for cleaning chrome handles on old O&R tools

Did you ever think about a couple of these? About $46 from Home Depot. Use them until after the snow is gone, then take them back and get your money back. I do it all the time when replacing porch posts on peoples houses. The manager at Home Depot suggested the scheme to me a couple of years ago. He said that as long as they are not damaged when they come back, there is no problem.

Dave, It's working great, I've used it quite a bit this winter. Last Friday I used it for several hours at one of our local cemeteries clearing snow for a funeral, never missed a beat. Sure glad I have the six speed tranny, it really helps with just 8H.P.

Not to rub it in rdmanone...but I am going to plant palm trees here in Chicago this spring....the snow belt is moving south towards you. All it takes is a little shift in the earth's axis...and a small magnetic shift. Illinois is going to be the Sunshine State...

Well I stopped in at the local TSC (only a 1/2 mile away) and found this pedal tractor on clearance. It looked nice, but I new Terry could make it look great! This will be given to my son on February 21st for his birthday. He is going to LOVE it! Here is what it looked like when I bought it....... And after with a little of Terry's magic....... I can't thank him enough for his willingness to help make this present even more special.

Hi Guys, I am new to the forum so please excuse my ignorance in where to post. I have used the search function trying to find a re-power alternative to my Wheel Horse "Air Horse" tactor / aircraft tug. I did not find what I was looking for so I am asking for some help. This is probably the best aircraft tug available today and I want to save it instead of selling it. It has a KT-17 and hydro drive. The hydraulic pump also drives the wheel lift and steering. I have not been able to make the KT17 run properly since purchasing it. I have changed the plugs, rebuilt the carb and set it according to the manual, changed the fuel filter, etc. Basically, it will not run unless the choke is on and then it runs poorly requiring varing choke and throttle positions. I either need to have an expert go through the engine and make it right or re-power it with something modern. I need reliability as this is used to move many aircraft on a tight schedule. While I am mechanically inclined, I just don't have the time to tinker with it right now. I would greatly appreciate a recommendation of a shop that could fix what I have or re-power this machine for me. I am not afraid to spend money on it and want it correct. I would prefer to take the whole machine to a shop and have it repaired at their shop. I live in NE Indiana (Auburn) and would be willing to travel 100 miles or so. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello Guys, I haven't been making any post because I haven't been doing anything with my machines for a while now! However I thought I'd come back with some fabulous news! I'm now an uncle. However it wasn't expected so soon, the little man is 5 weeks early, my sister had to have an emergency C- Section due to pre eclampsia and the baby's heart beat dropping! He was born yesterday (11/2/14) at 3:28AM weighing only 3lbs 8oz, he is making a full recovery, both my sister and him are fine! He is breathing on his own, and only needs a tube every other feed and they say at this rate it won't be long before they are both home! His name is Tyler. Let's hope he finds a place in his heart for wheel horses when he's older Shortly after he was born Later on in the day!

Next thing you need to do is lick your fingers and turn it over while holding the bare plug wire. If it curls your toes the plugs are bad.

I'd like to hear from anyone in PA, Tennessee, GA, North or South CA. I am sure someone would have, at the least, some good photos and possibly a nice video?????? What say the horse fans in that area?????

You need to get the bore measured properly before deciding what oversize you need to go to. .010" over is the first rebore size, but your bore may not clean up at that. To compound things, a Chinese .010" over piston will probably be a little different from a Kohler .010" over piston. Even if you have the tools to measure the bore properly, there are some traps. Most of the wear in a bore is on the thrust side of the cylinder. So if (for example) you can measure that you have .008" wear, a .010" oversize piston may still not work. Of the .008" wear, you might have .006" on the thrust side and .002" on the other. Boring the cylinder .010" over is only .005" per side so the bore wont clean up on the most worn side. A good machinist can fudge it a little to compensate, but ideally the center of the bore should stay in the center of the block. So, as the others have said, take it to a machine shop, have it measured to see if a rebore is necessary (and if it is, what size piston to order), order your rebuild kit, bring the piston to the machine shop and have them bore the block to the piston you have in your hand.

Im ready to go…gotta make a fuel run tomorrow morning first thing but with 10-18 inches coming my way the 18 is gonna get its first major workout. I can't wait to get some time pushing the white stuff with it and give the Charger 12 a break

Ummm yeah that would be .010" over....

Find someone to fix the Kohler 20M in my D/A 1920. I love my 416, but the 48" deck just takes too long. The 1920 with a 60" deck, turning brakes, and hydro can mower circles, literally, around the 416. I'm thinking of knocking down 3 acres of weeds and prepping for planting a woodlot. At bit too big a job for the 416. Jeff

well its been a few days, I've been busy.... got a bunch of plated parts back........ so it was time to swap out some of the temporary stuff and start assembling parts. kept painting more black parts and also repainted the hood stand as i wasn't happy with it (to tell the truth here- the hood stand has been painted 4 times now since i started this build) i just wasn't happy with the shade of black and i also had an issue with some old powder that i had in storage for a few years. junk started appearing in some parts, so i ditched the box and started using our production supply at work. some of us guys that do a lot of personal work keep old inventory when its purged. sometimes it bites you using old stuff........ anyway, heres some more pics, its starting to go together slowly and I'm happy how its turning out so far..... steering all together... front tach-a-matic together with painted and plated parts. mid tach-a-matic together.... shifters painted and installed...... with new boot (part #3357) hood stand going on with replated hardware...... front axle and steering from above..... upper hoodstand on to check fit, needs to come off so upper steering shaft can be installed. i got it bolted on as it leaves less parts for me to kick around on the garage floor.....

James , This is one show that you really dont wanna miss . it lasts 5 days long & is the biggest gathering in the world of steam traction engines , there is also a large tractor section along with stationary engines, heavy Haulage & large vintage sort out market. it cost around £17.00 per adult to enter for the day & trust me you will need more than one day to see it all . infact i would say that you would need 3 days to see everything comfortabley. & you will need to take a tent to camp out , dont just go for the day . The show marks the end of the show season and has some amazing exhibits , There are plenty of videos on youtube about the show , but is is day 1 or 5 videos The show is in a place called Blandford Forum in Dorset http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj6WAjNK_II&feature=player_detailpage#t=3

Google has a new feature that is really impressive and huge, called IMAGES; just type in: Wheel Horse Cabs then open up the section called (by clicking the blue title for it): Images for Wheel Horse Cabs They have huge image collections like that for nearly every item now on Google, try 'Images for Wheel Horse Logo'. Lots of the photos have been taken from Red Square and the members' tractors here. Then if you click the image you like, you can often see where & when it was posted and sometimes how to contact the originator. All of them are easy downloads to copy.

Heres part 2 of the snow team…my 1973 18 Automatic with a 60 inch blade... Its at my Dads right now because we just finished fabbing the the plow linkage and installed the factory front wheel weights but I plowed 7 inches with it yesterday and it was like it didnt even know it as there. I wish I could have gotten it to the farm here with 14 inches of snow coming,[attachment but the Charger 12 will have to clear the half mille driveway

So after riding behind many a town tractor-mounted (rear PTO) leaf blower I got thinking that maybe such a setup would be helpful for those monster piles of leaves in the Fall. The backpack blower is king for control -- getting into the corners and small spaces -- but lacks in the grunt to move tall piles of leaves quickly. On the flipside, the walk-behind blowers are powerful but are a bear to handle on sloped hills. Here is what I came up with: It works great! Now I just need a cup holder. Thanks again to Scott for the heavy hitch! (love it!)
