    Santa was good to me this year. He brought me a well taken care of 1993 314 HYDRO with a 42" SD deck that is in great shape (no rust or dents or dings). The engine is a Magnum 14. The tractor has 530 hours on the meter, and the meter works so I'm sure this is the actual hours. It was a one owner. An older gentleman who after 20 years decided to buy a Zero turn to mow his yard that could have easily been cut with a push mower. The pics are from this morning. The air cleaner assembly is not attached because I'm having to replace the crankcase vent hose. The engine runs great and is very quiet. The hydro is strong, and I do not see any leaks. The mower deck is quiet. The throttle shaft is nice and tight in the carb body, thats a BIG plus. The charging system works as it should. All I have done so far is change the engine oil but will change the hydro fluid and filter this Spring. All the land where the tractor came from is totally flat so the Horse never climbed a hill till it got to my house. Anyway, here are some pics. I have not had time to clean it yet. Hope you like it!

    Hello All, Today I sat and got rather bored and my grandad called me up, he wanted help moving some things about in his workshop, whilst I was up there he showed me what he's been toying about with recently and he's been trying to make a Wheel Horse Clevis hitch, so I thought I'd look at his plans and try my self, now when you see this don't laugh! I know it's not the best but it's a trail run! I've got enough metal to make another when I get round to doing it, I've packed in for the day now but All that's left to do is weld to spacers and the drop pin at the back, it was fairly easy, we had a metal bender and bench drill and all the right tools it took about 3 hours, anyway here's some pictures for you guys! Started with a length of flat iron 34" long Then got to work bending it Then added the pin and the pick up bar Still needs a little playing with, but I like it! P.S Mark your 4x4 is getting rather popular, it popped up on my Facebook newsfeed a moment ago!

    With the topic of American made products and Kohler engine differences in mind I was just messing around on the internet this morning. I learned a lot about Kohlers and naturally many of the links I went to were other forums. I would browse the forums just to see what they were like. Without going into detail let me just say that we all should be thankful this forum is run the way it is. Not that there aren't other well run forums out there but a couple of them had me laughing at what was allowed and the rudeness. I was into one of my searches about 20 pages and came across this picture. The posting was dated in 2004. It sure looks like a dandy to restore or use as is.

    That bearing should have an eccentric lock collar. That empty hole you put a punch in it, tap with a hammer and turn the collar. then it will all slide apart.

    Got the motor back together today with the help of a friend. Just have to paint it and put it back together the rest of the way. I still haven't ordered tranny parts so that will probably wait until Thursday. Getting really close on this project! Thanks, Jake

    I'd listen to Terry's advice Kevin - even when he doesn't know what he is talking about, he still knows twice as much as the rest of us! I agree that 8 speed internals wont go into a 4 speed case. I actually have a 1054 here that has been fitted (badly) with an 8 speed. I haven't had a chance to mess with it much, so I'm sure I haven't seen all the problems with the swap yet. FWIW my tractor doesn't appear to have any spacers fitted to the hubs (I've never pulled off the rear wheels). Caution: Pics of ugliness follow. Pic of holes slotted in the trans mounting plate: The axles are about 1 1/2" too short. I haven't pulled the hubs to see where the setscrew sits on the key: Axle length from underneath: My plan at this stage (keeping in mind I really don't know what I am talking about either!!!) is to switch in a set of D axles. If I had a 953/1054 4 speed I'd use that in a heartbeat, but I would probably switch in an 8 pinion differential.

    Turn the heat and the music up!! Where are the cards at? From the top straight to the bottom. Magic pencil bit the "DUST" is now a memory. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. In that fire there was no safe place, Up in Smoke!! Isn't that a movie? Got a dvd player or TV down here. Might as well make it enjoyable. As always, Go Hawkeyes!!!

    Congrats Jim. I turned 71 this month but I keep putting off my retirement for a couple of reasons. One is a 17 year old daughter/granddaughter who graduates this year and is college bound and two is that I like my job. Best of all I like the feeling that I could retire today if I wanted to. In fact I mention that to the big boss daily. If someone at work asks me when I'm going to retire, I say as soon as one of the a**holes p*ss me off. They've come close a couple of times.

    Lots of hammering and pounding on this one... the entire build is on YouTube (link in signature)... the ultimate goal was to clone the RJ tractor on the cover of Straight From a Horse's Mouth Second Edition and the original 1955 RJ advertisement. The sad thing about the project... my computer took a dump about a month ago and I lost every pic and vid of this project... at least most of the vids are on YouTube and the project its done, LOL!

    Well I know he won't post it up, so I will do the honors for him. I am proud to have this machine in my collection, even though I am not the creator of it. Many kudos goes out to TT for this custom build which has provided much fun and enjoyment to our family. The infamous "Drags-tor" (the black beauty)

    Well after using my snowblower it's become very clear that I'll need some form of protection from the snow. However this cab is going to be slightly different as I want to be able to remove the front frame work in the summer abd use the top as a sun screen. I'm using electrical conduit for the framework and have black and clear vynil for the skin. Here is the progress so far:

    Here is the result of today's work, the front windshield and legs unbolt from the main frame allowing it to be used in the summer as a sun shade. Still need to add some cross braces for extra strength. Next I'm onto the adding the fabric.

    When I get a tractor in with a good USED hyd lift on it I pull everything needed to make the swap, so mine are used kits, but a complete kit non the less.

    The Magnum starter is held to the bearing plate by the long bolts on the opposite end. Link to service manual: http://www.asberry.net/files/TP-2203-A.pdf Section 10A, page 4 You have to remove the dipstick tube (three screws threaded into engine block at bottom casting) and removal of the drive belt cover is extremely helpful but not a necessity - depending on your patience and the contents of your toolbox. The blower housing does not need to be removed from the engine.

    My c series blade fitted fine on my gt14 with no modifications, even the lift bar was in the right place...it is seized for the angle adjustment though so not sure if it would catch the tyres on the angle? Pics here: Ironically all I have pushed with it is Daniels (Robins) mud heap, bring on the snow! Ian - your GT is looking fine, I am enjoying watching your adventures!

    Thanks for the info.....I put it into the classified section for $800.00. Be happy with that if I could get a quick sale. They are great lawn tractors, I grew up with a neighbor who had a Wheel Horse before Toro took them over. That neighbor still has that one and another one his children are still using. I saw many "Lowes" mowers come and go during that time and never forgot it. When I bought my current home with a big yard I went hunting one. The salesman at the Toro dealership kept telling me they did not make those "Classic" style mowers but I knew they were still on the website so we went round and round. Finally the owner walked by and ask what we were talking about so I told him. He smiled said come with me.....sure enough he opened a box and there it was. Toro had shipped it there by mistake and it had never been taken out and prepped for sale....boy was that salesman red faced when he saw it.

    More than likely the springs in the detent springs are wrong out. They either break or get weak, which causes the shifter to not find gears, go in between gears, or even lock up in a gear. To fix it, you have to drop the transmission and split the case. It's not a big repair job, but be sure you split the case a certain way. I would leave one wheel on, and lay the whole assembly on the wheel facing down. It will elevate the transmission and allow for a stable work environment. The bolts of the transmission should be facing with the heads up. This way the gears and everything inside the transmission won't be dumped out causing more confusion. You can still get the springs, gaskets, etc. from your local JD dealer - it's about a $15 fix. While in there, you can check the condition of the gears. Keep grinding the gears will cause damage to them, and it becomes an expensive fix. See this thread here from WFM. http://www.weekendfreedommachines.com/discus/messages/96042/188038.html?1331865525

    Small update, but relatively big in functionality... I now have remote mounted 4 wheel drive selection Almost looks like a factory fitment. Just the brake control linkage to extend now, and the clutch interlock to bypass - somehow I managed to snap the terminal off in fitting the selector linkage :(
