I FINISHED THE CLEANUP ON MY 1988 312-8 TRACTOR. HERE IS THE FINISHED PRODUCT. I WILL TRY TO SELL IT IN THE SPRING. IT HAS 3 YEAR OLD 42" DECK AND 610 HOURS ON TRACTOR. BOWTIE IN OHIO

Its kinda funny but when I first got on this site I thought why do all these idiots have so many tractors......lmao I was thinking mower on the one blower/plow on the other.....I GET IT NOW!!!!

I have wanted a 1045 for my love of short chassis big block one lung Horses.I have had a couple chances to acquire some 1045s but knowing how cherished and rare they are I would have a hard time altering them.I dug my commando out of the stall and had some fab time yesterday and the results are fulfilling.The look of the 1045 is one of the coolest,unique rare mistakes in the Horse line up and now I have a similar beast.I will need some custom "845" decals!

Hi all new guy here, great forum. I was able to save a 520 from being parted out, just got it home, little bit rusty but runs ok and hydro seems to be good. Has 830 hours on it. planning on tearing it down to do some cleaning and painting to bring her back to life again. I have two others a 314a & c105 with kohlers so I am not very up on the onans . I was hoping to get some advice on anything that I should do or look for while I have the engine on the bench. from the looks of it, it doesn't appear to have any oil leaks so not sure if I should reseal it or not. budget is kind of tight on this one but I would like to avoid any issues that may be avoidable. so if anyone has any advice for this first time onan owner it would be greatly appreciated. I did pay 800 bucks for it so I don't think I did very bad on the purchase, but be honest let me know what you think. also I would like to find a 60" deck to go under this unit, i would be willing to trade my great running and cutting 314a if anyone is interested or knows where I could get one. thanks Jay

Maybe we better start incorporating unit numbers somewhere on the decals before your growing fleet of 416's gets unmanageable. I can not wait to see what decal ideas you will challenge me with this time.

Getting ready to set up a plow on the new C-175 I just brought home. Discovered I had this NOS, 5 hole sector on hand.. Wondering, can I just swap this one with the original 3 hole, with no further modifications/parts needed?

I took the belt cover off my 1054 to get a new belt for it and down in the center of the shifter compartment I seen this . It's a Barlow, the blades aren't in the best shape. I thought it was a really cool bonus.

The winch and mount I made, can be used with a rear axle mounted plow also. I made this plow mount, because I didn't want to remove the mower deck, just to use the plow. I also made a plywood bucket bottom, for this plow. 2 pins pulled and the winch can be mounted in the rear, for implement lift. Pull 1 pin, and the mount tilts forward to allow the hood to be opened. After the picture was taken, I added power disconnect plugs to the front and rear of the tractor.

I had a hotel constructed in the muffler of an old MTD I had. I didn't know it was there until a ball of flaming material come sailing out of the muffler.

I'm going to do the red one I took pictures of going to put a 1 1/8" dia. hole in top cover and spot weld a 1 3/16" freeze plug in the bottom cup I will post some pictures when I get it done Brian

Agreed, that's the ticket here. I had to take the chance though, and figure it out as I went...as I had no reference on hand to work from. Suppose I could tack in a couple fender washers to the underside of the lid to prevent this tube from coming up through the cap. Next one will be even better...now that I know. Lightly pressurize the fuel tank. (blow in it )

probably because the surfaces are not flat take it off the tractor and turn it upside down and look where the two pieces come together under the top cover. The bottom oil cup and the top cover should have a half inch gap between them Brian

I Like it! Its a Hybrid Horse!

I was able to receive a very special Wheel Horse Christmas present this year. I was able to purchase Scott's 1045 that he had listed for sale. It was a 700 mile drive (one way) from Chesterfield VA to Warsaw IN, but was well worth it. I combined this trip with a stop back in Ohio to visit my Mom just before Christmas. Here is a picture of the 1045 being unloaded, The starter/generator is bad, so I couldn't drive it down the ramps. So the Wheel Horse got a little help from his John Deere friend. I am giving the tractor a "freshen up" while waiting for a new S/G. It has been restored previously and is in really good shape. A belated Merry Christmas everyone!

Well it's fixed. Cleaned all connections, no more arcing, although I'm still not sure where it was coming from. No bare wires so who knows. Removed the alternator/charging wire from the 9 pin connector and spliced in a bullet connector I had and voila, 14.7 ish volts and all is good.

YES The bell is longer on the updraft manifold so it misses the carb bowl Brian

theres nothing better than reading how members are working on or restoring their tractors, whatever year or model they are. the information may be just what somebody is looking for. i know when I've been stuck with a problem, theres been many a thread done in the past that has helped me out in some way or another. its one of the main reasons, other than the friendships i have made here, that i am on the forum so much...... one member working through a problem now and documenting it, hopefully will help somebody out in the future. thanks for all the comments on my 'adventures' with the 416(s) guys.

Surplus centre has hubs to suit a 1" spindle. http://www.surpluscenter.com/Wheels/Spindles-Wheel-Hubs/5-BOLT-LOW-SPEED-HUB-W-BEARINGS-1-3747.axd These are 5 bolt hubs that I bought for my JD front axle, but they do a 4 bolt as well. Fairly sure that Northern has them as well.

Steve, I ran out and took a picture. Also did the math and its not quite fifty years old. Its a 66 Chevy short bed. Her grandpa bought to use for a farm truck and that's about all it was used for. Its on the list to do after about ten other things.

I hope the jackshaft is okay, the keyway is still clean and the marks are not deep so hopefully it will be okay. rayshorses it was your video I just watched which told me I was not pushing the blower too hard. I was not doing anything differently than what I saw you doing and yes I was a bit surprised at the belt movement sometimes when under load. Dave thanks for your input. I really do like this unit over the 2 stage. Much easier on the tractor and me I ripped a newspaper through it yesterday, did not know it was there. No issue with that at all. Mike thanks for the video. I saw another one on You tube as well. My thrower does not have quite as high as pitch whine to it but the auger bearings are fine so maybe its just a different noise. RMCIII the key way cut on the jack shaft is pretty wide. You should be able to align the drive pulley with the PTO and the two idlers. I had no problem doing that with mine. I do not have any issue with belt deflection. Is the Hub on your pulley facing inwards? MalMac thanks. I think that's the problem.

It was in quite a sorry state when i had it & i am delighted that she has gone to a loving home & that she can do what she was made to do . Hi John, Attached is a picture of the back of the tractor, you get a better view of the piece of pvc pipe near the bottom of the cab. That is there in case the blower chute becomes clogged with wet snow. I push the pipe down into the chute, some of the snow goes inside the pipe, pull it out, shake out the snow and repeat. The pvc is pretty harmless to the metal of the chute. If the snow is so wet that it is going to clog the chute, my glove would get soaked cleaning it out, so this is the solution that I came up with. Luckily I don't need it too often, but it is nice to have out with me when I need it. Rick

Well I have not been on here much in the past few months. Also I have not been working on the herd much lately. This summer I did a lot of work to my herd hauler fixing it up. Then this fall I got started back on a project I had started a few years ago. It is a play barn for my oldest son that will be eight in February. I had to push myself hard last week to finish the painting and get it put all back together. My wife said that if i did not get it done I was going to be a dead man. Most of the presents she got him went along with the barn. It was all worth it for the look on his face this morning. Just wish he had a toy to put in it. And here is a pic of my herd hauler after it was done. Sorry I do not have any good pics of it from before.

Attached are some pictures of weight bracket for 2" receiver hitch my son welded up last winter. This one holds 5 40# weights. We're going to make one for 6 weights next week. Cost is approx. $30-$35. Bought a bunch of suitcase weights when Lowes was clearing them out in our area several years ago. Price varied from $10 to $20 each. The green John Deere weights I got off Craigslist for $30 each, cost $55-$60 at John Deere. I do have a Heavy Hitch for my Kubota BX2370, I can put 8 40# weights on it and use the weight bracket in the pictures to add another 200# for 520#.

Great front end Mod all of you Guys. I also remember Kevin (kpthorsefan) did the same thing in the UK Also, because they were Trailer Stub Axles, it meant narrow wheels were easily available and the Tri Ribs fitted great. A very neat job Lars/Gents
