7 pointsIt's been a busy week at work, but now I'm home for 18 days The weather was good this morning and I went off for another play, my eldest filmed and this is my first attempt using Vegas. I think I might be close to finding the limit of what a 4x4 tractor can do

3 pointsi guess i haven't reached that stage yet where i can think about getting rid of some, my wife is getting concerned that its getting out of control........ i want to keep all of them.......

3 pointsI smoked for over 45 years, most of those years 2 plus packs a day, and I can tell you no e-cig was going to help me quit. I liked smoking. Oh I tried a few times to stop but didn't last more than two weeks. You can try all the methods you can think or read about, and I hope one of them will help you quit, permanently. I do not condemn anyone for smoking and I don't preach about it, but I offer my sincere encouragement and hope for all who try to quit. Nothing works to stop you like being told you have lung cancer, a tumor the size of a baseball in your lung. It is a cold, ruthless shock to the system to hear those words, even though I really already knew. Suffice it to say that I was very lucky to be able to have surgery to remove it over two years ago and I'm doing ok. After the surgery my son got on chantix and within a few weeks was off both it and the smokes. Hoping my two oldest daughters will kick the habit also. My wife doesn't smoke at home or in front of me, but still has a couple a day. I offer encouragement to her. She was sure there for me. So use any method you can to quit smoking, and know that you can do it. I would love to visit this thread a year from now and see that all of you have stopped.

3 pointsOk folks, So I went down to NAPA and got the proper heli coil kit to fix the stripped threads. Got it home, took the head off and went to work. It worked like a charm and was able to salvage the head so I put it back on, put the plug back in and wah-la......started right up with out hesitation. That was a lot easier than I had anticipated. Groovy,.....back in business, Bring on the snow. Lol.

2 pointsTry pulling it off and submerging it in a pan of "antifreeze". (ethylene glycol) I had a low-hanging shift cable freezing up on a utility vehicle at work and it hasn't done it since I gave it a soaking.

2 pointsSmoked 20 years and stopped a couple times....my downfall was alcohol...took away my self control.....so I quit drinking......then the smoking just faded on its own......been sober since 91 and haven't smoked since 92.....actually was smoking a pipe when it ended...... I don't buy the stress deal.....just a denial excuse......hey...I used all kind of excuses for my addictions and still do.....but they are just denial excuses...when you own your addictions then, and only then, you can control them......

2 pointsI was a smoker myself, as little as 10 yrs ago. In the early yrs. I didn't even smoke a pack a day, most days around 10. I had quit a few times, a few times cold turkey and once with the patch. When I quit it wasn't just a few days it was at least 5 yrs. at a clip without touching a smoke. The last time I started smoking again went like this... It was snowing like crazy, I worked on the snow crew at the Danbury Mall. I drove a loader with a 22 ft blade and I was also in charge of keeping the equipment going.Well that day sucked, I was getting a call on my radio every ten minutes it seemed from the guys that ran the trucks with the sanders pissin and moaning that their sanders were jammed up or some other silly problem. I'd get so friggin mad it wasn't funny. Instead of making a commotion over the radio I'd drive a truck over to their "situation." How many times do you have to tell someone that they can climb up into their sander and un- jamb it just as well as I can without stangling them? A lot of guys are totally useless, some are capable, just plain lazy and don't want to be in the cold. Anyway, I finally get to head on over to my loader and fire it up. I climb on up into the cab and have a seat and there they are, my old brand of smokes, a fresh pack too with a new lighter included...How nice of someone..Either someone left them there from the night before or the Devil himself put em there... I fired up my loader and figured what the Hell, might as well fire one of these up as well. I had been quit for over 7 yrs... I went thru that whole pack of cigs that day and another pack as well. Its so easy too burn thru a few packs while driving a loader or a plow truck all day or all night. I continued on that course for another 3 years until I thought I'd have a heart attack. I quit cold turkey, AGAIN. Been almost ten yrs. now. I do still enjoy a cigar or two a day but I'll jump off a bridge before I pick up another cigarette...

2 pointsAutoparts stores sell helicoil kits to repair spark plug threads. The kit will include the special tap and an insertion tool, and sometimes the right size drill bit for enlarging the hole. They come in several different sizes to suit the various sizes of spark plug.

2 pointsVery true Craig. I've often wondered about trying to kick the addiction to nicotine with nicotine but my wife and I tried the ecigs as well. The first ones we bought seemed fine for a while but they were of a low quality and had issues. We quit using them and went back to the real thing. Then we tried a different brand of ecigs. They were made much better and worked better as well. But it didn't take long for both of us to go back to the real ones again. I did use the ecigs in my truck on a trip to Indiana a while back since we don't smoke in the vehicles or house. A 'fill in' as Richard said. As with most folks that try to quit, we both used every excuse we could muster up to "just have one". Well, that doesn't work. At this point, knowing we need to quit, we've agreed on a New Years resolution. This time there's no rule bending allowed. Yea, most New Years resolutions aren't kept but we really do want to quit so why not try again. One of these times we'll make it. As far as the health issues of ecigs, I just read an FDA report. They flat out don't know the ill effects and don't regulate them. They are doing intensive research and expect to have the reports out soon. I don't like more government regulations but it would be nice to know what's in them things and is it bad for you.

2 pointsSpoiler Alert !! If you still believe in Santa Claus, you should stop reading now. Many have said that this is the model that "They should have made". It's built from what I consider the best features from several eras. I give you the 595-HD ... The chassis started out as a C-195: The 520 hood was just a LITTLE short to fit the chassis: The 20hp Onan had to be relocated to keep it centered under the hood louvers: The gear reduction steering had to be stretched a bit also: Stock width wheels? Not exactly... 52" Hi-Vac deck converted from a zero turn model: Size comparision vs a stock 520: It's got to be real... The book says so

1 pointWhere I live, just around the bend from USMA West Point, NY. 50 miles north of NYC on the mighty Hudson River. My '73 AMC Javelin AMX, fresh from paint back in the fall of '09. My '88 520-H set up for snow duty, fall '10. Out for a stretch today, Jan '11. :banghead:

1 pointHi there in new to the forum. Rescued my first WH from nasty scottish weather. Its been out there for some time but when I got her home she started with a new battery and petrol. But there are some problems. I have to hold the throttle and it does not like idling. If I can get it to do both I think I can go ahead with my plan to mount an oil pump to work a log spliter. Thanks
-
1 pointMeet Widestride. Modified C120 for logging work over rough terrain. Agri tyres to go on and independant rear brakes. Holds its course on steep banks and steers good. Very stable tractor, pulls a 4x5 4 wheel trailer and soon to be log skidder. Deciding whether to put rubber fenders on all round or leave it as it is. When all mods have been made i will tear it down for paint. Can anyone recommend a reliable 12volt winch for the front.

1 pointRyan, Shorts: Yep, it all has to do with EPA... Lovely thing that restricts our engines today. Funny thing is, it takes more gadgets today, to produce the HP of yesterday.. Hmmm...I think I will leave that alone. the Speedway we owned had a HP chart that topped out at 125hp, and get this, 200lb/ft of torque...Not saying that was 100% accurate, all I know is, that sled was "wicked, scary" fast....I wish we would have had a camera then... That thing ate spark plus like there was no tomorrow...It hardly idled without stalling, and it ran rich when the temp was 30 plus. Once it dipped below the 30 degrees, man-oh-man, look out. That thing was like greased lightning...Bragging is not welcome in any thread, this is not bragging, just facts... Our driver, Mike Rager, would allow the challenger a head start. Not once did he loose.. As the sales brochures said, It's a Ferrari.. It truly was... I have yet to see a sled duplicate what that sled did... Once again EPA...

1 pointVery cool Ryan...at least you are in the snow belt for using it. I'd be sitting in the garage with a glass of Rock & Rye just looking at it.

1 pointI picked up another one yesterday (darn craigslist). Polaris Storm 800 with a triple cylinder not sure if this one will get repaired or just knocked in the head and put on ebay in pieces. Odometer only reads 410 miles but I will need to dig a little deeper to make sure that is correct. RMCIII Those older sleds are very fast I used to own a 1978 Skidoo Blizzard 6500 with a 340cc engine it was a factory racer, I could line up with almost any newer big cc sled and take him out of the hole but get beaten on top end. The older sleds are very lightweight compared to what is out there today.

1 pointSorry , I missed your drift in the scale/size , threw me . Yes the bigger the scale, the easier it will be for working detail. I have been chewing this one over now for some time, and it's on my list of things to do, but not with R/C in mind. Thought about a Trophy type Desk Top Scale Model about 1/6th. Depends which WH model is used as the subject though. Have looked around for drawings, but only found TT's excellent ones in the Gallery area. Lots of challenges with parts sizing. Biggest challenge would be Tires. I've done several worldwide searches for 'ready made' , but not a lot of quality or size choice. I can get RTV Rubber for casting, but would have to make the complex patterns/moulds. Making the Formers for the Tin work should not present an issue. If I was to do one, I would prefer to use Nickel Silver Sheet for the Tin work (have some left in stock), but hard to get now. It takes primer/paint well and is easy to have Plated . I can make proper nuts and bolts down to 0.050" across the Flats, so should be able to keep to scale in most things. ........Looking at your list of interests, you ain't gonna get bored anytime soon!

1 pointThat's funny you say that. My Horses love the PK. When they get in trouble they just yell "Hey Elvis, Get your big orange butt over here!"

1 pointWho ever said AMC didn't have a vision for the future... always ahead of the times...it's no wonder they became the parent company of our Wheelhorse tractors too. Truly a thoughtful gesture Glenn...Rob. tell you what, if I win the mega millions tonight...I'll return the favor and make you a millionaire.

1 pointI don't think Kohler recommends SAE 10. They recommend SAE 10w30 or 10w40 for below freezing temperatures. Personally, I use SAE 30 year round.

1 pointNot really a hobby, but when not messing on horses we are usually working at our blueberry farm. My parents own 20 acres of blueberries and it takes most of our time when the snow is not on the ground. We usually harvest Around 200,000 lbs of blueberries each year. We stay very busy in the summer. and this is what we harvest with. These machines are made here in the same town as us, they shake the bushes back and forth, and then the berries fall onto a conveyor belt that runs back to where you see us standing. We usually run the machine with 5 guys, unless it is the final pick when there is not many berries left. We run over everything 3 times with the machine. my dad drives it, I run one side, my brother runs one side....and two other guys each work on each side and grab the containers of berries and stack them on the trailers. The last picture shows part of our farm, tried to attach it the other way, but must of did something wrong. lol

1 pointAlways been fascinated with things in miniature and seem to manage and learn all things practical with reasonable ease for most of my life. Ended up being a 'Tool Freak' and precision work like Model Engineering. This is my 1" scale 'Still yet to finish Project' - My recent excuse has been The 2 WHs taking up my time and getting the Workshop straight. I have a degree of reluctance to actually paint it due to the array of wonderful coloured metals and finishes, but I will. I also changed the design to improve detail which made more work for myself.. The not-so-good Pics were taken some time ago and some progress made. The Boiler has been Tested and Certificated for 50psi running steam pressure. I just don't learn do I !.

1 pointWhy yes Marv....Yes it is...I don't like to leave well enough alone. I take what wheel Horse did and see if I can make things better. I did it last year when I restored my 18 Auto. I bought a 60 inch deck from a member on here, bought a carriage for a D series mower and re-engineered things so to speak. I had to get a custom belt length for the PTO and I have to make a custom center lift bar but I set the gauge wheels on the deck for 3 1/2 inches and mowed all last year with it and t it all worked out in the end. I have had some engine issues with the Kohler on the 18 so i have been using the D exclusively for plowing and been mowing with my C-160 8 speed. But once I get the engine sorted out on the 18 the deck will be back under the 18 Auto
