Last week, I bought a Wheel Horse dealer sign listed on Ebay near Roanoke VA. One side of the sign was in pretty good shape, but the other side was almost obliterated. The seller said he found the sign in an old barn where the roof had collapsed on it from the snow, so I guess it was fortunate that the sign survived at all. I took it apart, cleaned it, and replaced the bad side with a piece of white paperboard. I also had to replace the old mechanical ballast with a new electronic one. Once I wired it up 2 of the 3 fluorescent tubes still worked! I plan to hang it on the wall in the garage for display. I tried to convince my wife to put it in the window for a Christmas display, but she wouldn't go for it.

well after I got out of work today I got home looked at my tractor proud as can be of her turned the key started right up decided to take her for a spin and you know I don't I've ever owned a more solidly built tractor than this wheel horse the closest thing to this was a case 220 that was ok but this machine just feels like a bigger machine and love the kohler 12hp and 8spd combo i'm just really glad I got it, just thought i'd share my thoughts of the wheel horse tractor.

I found this pic in some old photos, this was our local wheel horse dealer when I was a kid. I remember going and looking at every new model that came out, The owner "an old family friend" use to let me drive the ones that repaired back to the people. I know there are none sitting out in front when this pic was taken, but there was a time when they were just lined up down the sidewalk and the old barn behind was just filled with them. The hardware store is still going strong thanks to stihl chain saws, but every time I drive by I still see them lined up and what a great time it was.

OK so I have seen some of you guys pick with your heart, head and tea leaves this year, For the last regular week of the season Im going to pick who I want to win. I mean why not, I'm so far out of first place that I might as well. Iowa vs Nebraska I am going to pick Iowa on this game because my team played them and I want them to have the best record that they can get. Minnesota vs Michigan State Michigan State Again so they will have the best record they can for when we play them. OHIO STATE vs Michigan OHIO STATE No brainier here guys. Purdue vs. Indiana Who cares They both had bad seasons but I will go with Indiana just so I picked one. Northwestern vs. Illinois Again who cares. Northwestern had to be the biggest let down of the season for me. Started out looking like they were headed places but NO that didnt happen. Illinois Penn State vs Wisconsin Wisconsin The B10 teams for the most part have a ways to go and bringing in Rutgers and Maryland in to the mix just seems to me like the conference isnt getting any stronger. It would be great if this weeks games really mattered in the collage football sceem of things, 5 or 6 teams with good records fighting to play the B10 championship game. Do I sound like a salty OHIO STATE fan? I am very happy with my team just not the way things have turned out so far. Any ways go BUCKEYES

Hey.. i have done some upgrade on the horse and put on 4 bolt's on the front wheel's.. i have been thinking of that for a long time but never found the right part's for it.. but i finaly found a trailer hub kit that i bought... So here are som pict of what i did.. that axel was about 10 inch long so i had to cut it down to the right lenght.. and then i drilled a hole innside it about 1.5 inch and then it fit's on the original 3/4 spindel. And time to cut some more and both ready for some welding Finish whit welding time to try them on the tractor.. and as you can see they also has a greasepoint.. had some 10 inch trailer wheels that i put on so i could move the tractor and wait to ill got the other tires mounted on the rim's and finaly they are on the tractor Going to paint the rim's later dont have the time to fix that atm.. other project's whit higer priority.. if you're a car guy, it's worth the read!!! Went to California for a biz trip the last couple days and on Monday I got done a little early so I decided to check out the Tesla AND the McLaren dealerships a couple blocks from the hotel. I have seen a couple Teslas on the road in Lincoln and have always wanted to see one up close. I walk in, they have two model S's and a chassis on the showroom floor. Got to talking to one of the "ownership advisers" for about 1/2 hour. All of a sudden he said "hey, you want to take one for a spin" I said "does a bear sh*t in the woods?" He went to go check the schedule, came back and said "you can drive a standard model now, or in about 30 minutes, you can drive the FAST one!!!" I said without hesitation that I'll wait, he said "I like your style"!!! I went and checked out the McLaren dealership a block down for the 30 minutes, and came back ready to go. I got behind the wheel and he directed me to the hills. At one spot he said..."now, when you get around this corner, hit it and hold hold on" He didn't have to tell me twice...I turned the corner and put the hammer down, now...I must preface this by saying I have driven the hemi roadrunner I put together last winter and didn't figure I'd be too impressed. IN NO WAY WAS I EXPECTING WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!!!! This damn thing gets to full horsepower AND torque INSTANTLY!!!!!!!!!!! I was going 70 before i could even think about what was going on. I took it hard through the windy roads of the hills of Palo Alto and was SUPER impressed with the way it gripped and the low center of gravity is amazing. I got to take it down the interstate and I hit 82 MPH before I was even half way down the short on ramp. They have the demo cars governed at 82, the production ones top speed is around 135MPH. The huge screen in the middle of the driver and passenger is a touch screen that controls everything but the power windows/mirrors. For the life of the car it comes with FREE 3G service for browsing and navigation (you just can't watch You-Tube videos) While we were driving he said "lets see what a station in Serbia is playing" within 5 seconds, we were listening to ethnic Serbian music. Now, I know the price is a bit high (the one I drove was about $110K) but I really think they have something going here. I couldn't have been more impressed with the car and would love to own one (they are coming out with the economy model next year at a starting price around $35K) If you want more info on it, Google it, there is plenty out there. I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST and would hope some of you get the chance to enjoy a test drive (or purchase one) in the future. Chassis. . . AC motor on the left, inverter on the right. . . EVERYTHING is electric. . .power steering, brakes, AC compressor. . . BIG A$$ touchscreen!!!!! Front AND rear trunk space. . . HEAVY loaded floor model ~$137k Charging port is behind the "triangle" portion of the taillight....totally hidden!!! Here is the one I drove!!! Some McLaren Pics... Here is the rubber pieces that I used to extend the augers in the center to help prevent clogging. They have about a 1/16" clearance in the tunnel, but do rub slightly at the bottom due to the damage of being used on a gravel drive for years. The combo of slick new paint with nothing to stick to, and much smaller clearances at the business point have helped tremendously. I used material for making drive belts for tractor implements from TSC to make mine. I never had any luck with spray or wipe on stuff, it just wears off in minutes.

I think somewhere on here someone did that, I have never looked into it because it would take away some power and although the 8 is a strong engine it is still just an 8. Personally I would leave it,its a great combination as it stands." slow n steady wins the race"

Not sure there is anything more aggravating,I had the same problem on my c series blower last year. About a month ago I pulled it apart and painted the auger, chute and tunnel. I also added rubber belt material to the flats on the center of the auger. No problems this year, it tried to clog a couple times but I backed off for a few seconds and it cleared right out.

Got to really watch the speed too....48 inches is a big bite of wet snow....got to ease into it and get the speed just right....to slow and it will back up in the chute....too much and it will clog.....and full throttle like Sparky said above.....AMC RULES has a really good tip about silicone spray.....cut the friction down in the chute.... I never had much luck with throwers but if we get blasted.....it is going on the front of the 180.....but until that happens it is the blade for me....

I have a 550 and a 551. Look for a 551, chances are the Lauson/Tecky will be toast or long gone. You can always repower with a Kohler. The 551's have the beefier rear diff. If you locate a tractor and the H55 is there and beyond what you want to do with it that motor is valuable to someone. Maybe you'll get real lucky and find a 551 with a good running H55 on it, if that is the case I'd certainly leave it, when they run nice they are awesome. The Suburbans that we own get lots of use and are our favorites. Here is my son's 550 with an 8hp electric start Kohler stuffed under its hood. No hood cutting or hacking went on here. Next is my 551. Each tractor can easily be put back to factory stock if I should ever decide to.

Don't mean to hijack your thread but I did the same thing this spring but went one step further. The 3/4" original spindles are inherently weak so I added a piece of steel to beef it up so they don't bend over time. Just thought I'd add this tip for you or anyone else who plans on doing this. I've seen others do this modification without the additional support and over time they tend to bend upwards with larger or wider tires added. I also bored out the new spindles so that the entire original spindles fit down deep in them instead of cutting them short.

Hey guys this is the first time i used a D series snowblower on my D-160. I used c series blowers before and never had any real issues. The snowfall we had yesterday was very heavy snow wet snow about 4 inches. So i made my first pass and the snowblower got clogged up. Made my second pass very small cuts in the snow and still got clogged up. I wasn't really impress with the snowblower so i had to pull out the plow and finish the job. I remember my c series snowblowers went through the wet snow with some work but they did the job. The chain on the D snowblower is adjusted right and the belt it adjusted right. The snowblower is all oil and grease up and spins really strong as normal. So my question is im missing something or a trick with this blower and that why its not blowing the wet snow? Thanks for your help

Tried to get a Sno-Pup video but it is almost impossible. Need 2 hands on the Pup. got a short vid of the C-160 in action. Had to run it at partial choke. didn't realize it until I got done that when I unplugged the battery tender I forgot to plug in the electric fuel pump. It was gravity feeding the whole time

Been down in the 20's the last few days and went out tonight to swap out the 30w for some 5w-30 in the 314-8 (Kohler M14). After wrestling with my IH Cub Cadets and Simplicity, it was a pleasure to simply unscrew a pipe plug, drain the oil, refill. No subframes to remove, drain plug on the side of the engine, easy access to drain. Other simple things come to mind - like no speparate subframe for mower deck and front blade, heck - no subframes at all. No need to pull the engine to replace the clutch or hydro fan. Crazy simple PTO, easy to service and adjust - no special tool required. Flip the hood and almost total access to the engine. Problem with the driveshaft, pull the engine to service. Problem with the drive belt, easy replacement - engine stays put. Pretty simple. Am I missing anything? Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Bill

I've owned a D series blower but never used it. Are you sure your motor is running at max RPM's? Should be 3600 or thereabouts. If the "r's" are low the auger speed will be slow as well. Mike.............

Looking at the losses on either school, for the most part Northwestern has kept their games close, so Illini will be held to a very low score. Illini is ranked 107th in points against, so if Northwestern can get their offense rolling, they will steamroll Illini. Wisconsin over Penn Sate.

Steve ... I like my Bleu Cheese-stuffed olives with Dirty Martinis! Here's a photo from when I was back in Chi-Town, and pre-WH days. This was a Chicago winter ritual as you would shovel out your parking space and then put lawn furniture out to reserve it. Whoa be to the unlucky person who parked there!!! I'll be thankful for some measurable snow this year. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I have one and it does a good job for a light duty attachment (rated for 200 lb. lift capacity.) Initially I just used it for moving mulch on my 312A but this summer it went on my 520-H and I bought the toothbar attachment which now allows me to dig with it. Limitations are not being able to raise it very high like a FEL for dumping. One good use I have found is to use it with my MacKissic Chipper. I drag it out with the tractor and place the bucket under the discharge. That saves me from having to shovel the chips as I can just drive to where I need to place them.

November 14th, 2006 the original forum (whtractor.15.forumer.com) was established. It became immediately known as RedSquare but why? In 2008, whtractor.15.forumer.com was officially known as WheelHorseForum.com, although it still pointed to the old former site. Finally in 2011, WheelHorseForum became independent, meaning that the site is fully owned. It's been a fantastic 7 years and there's been a lot of change, but the one thing that has remained consistent is it is the best place to come and discuss Wheel Horse tractors! So... looking forward to the next 7 years!

I have been looking for about a year on and off (but not seriously due to funds to purchase). Well last night I came across an ad on CL for this 1949 Chevy 3100. It is from Kansas and all original and untouched. As you can see from the pictures it needs some work but I really like the year/model and color of this one. The last time this was registered was 40 years ago (the year I was born in 1973). Someone took the time to seal off the carb and gas tank with plastic. The motor is looked up but I think it should free up with a little work. Either way I think the motor will be coming out in the spring or earlier for a refresh. I have no plans of repainting this truck. At most I will clear coat it and maybe some touch up of old pinstriping. I am really looking forward to this project. It actually looks pretty good next to my new mini barn....

The reason for the pulley was to provide clearance for the oil filter. It was running to close.
