Just had this unloaded. It was my Dad's and he has used it for a long time. Still runs, just needs some TLC Not a tractor really, just the basic mower model, but that is what I wanted. Now the C-81 can be a plow like I wanted and have a mower on the side. You all were right...it starts with just one and soon it multiplies.

I saw one popped up first thing yesterday morning...15 minutes from home. Seller listed a T1267, virtually NOS 50" sickle bar, and solid 48" deck. All going to scrap by the end of the week...make offer. Trust me, that's how you sell a tractor.

Tried to get a Sno-Pup video but it is almost impossible. Need 2 hands on the Pup. got a short vid of the C-160 in action. Had to run it at partial choke. didn't realize it until I got done that when I unplugged the battery tender I forgot to plug in the electric fuel pump. It was gravity feeding the whole time

Well an early update! The bronchitis is about gone and my energy level is finally coming back! Well I know it isn't Wednesday but we have a tractor club update. Due to the fact that Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I moved our club night up. Many parents enjoy starting the holiday break as soon as the final bell rings on Wednesday afternoon. The day started off on a very positive note. Through the grapevine a group heard about our dilemma of having a pretty chilly place to work. Needless to say they are willing to come in on a weekend and insulate the entire barn just for our club. I am so very thankful, I can't believe the generosity of so many folks from here on RedSquare, as well as our community. The kids worked hard again tonight and with an extra heater in the barn, it was a manageable environment to work in. I took a couple of videos that show a small glimpse of what happens during club time. I am currently trying to build a YouTube account so that I can share it with the rest of you. I will be sure to post when I get everything worked out. Here are some photos of the fun tonight! Here is a photo of the kids standing around as my dad just finished using a torch to help break free the rust on a very stubborn locking collar. He was able to explain to the kids why the heat was able to loosen up the set screw so the locking collar could be removed. They all thought it was pretty cool how well it worked. My 4 year old is part of the club too! Here is what he thinks about the progress we have been making so far. Tune in next week for our next update!

The one thing you gained with going with the horse is one heck of a support group, These guys on here can tell you anything so it can take a lot of the "fooling around" out of the picture.

well, right after I wrote this question, i decided to go out and tinker with it. i found and fixed the problem. the bolt holding the shifter in had come undone and the shifter was stuck between gears. Thanks anyways guys!

I bought my first less then a week ago...I just left a deposit on my next two.

Most likely frozen because of water in it. Heat the trans that should help it move. Or you are stuck between two gears.

Well I just hate them all. Its to late in the season to pull for any other teams in the B10. It is what it is as they say and the BUCKEYES are ranked 3rd. Started the year at 2nd and did what they were supposed to do and that was to win. So the BUCKEYES have to win 2 more games and see what happens. I feel that they will do good against the teams up north. I really like the B10 and hopefully will be a powerful division once again.So with that being said I am pulling for auburn and florida this week. Go BUCKEYES

Not a video, but I did my first plowing of the season this morning. After sitting for months, I put a little charge in the battery (the regulator is bad) and blew into the fuel tank to force gas into the carb and she started right up! Not a lot of snow, maybe 4 or 5 inches, but I plowed my driveway and the road in front of my house.

It seems we all have seen some really funny ads. The absolute "best" ad I have ever seen, to date, was listed in a newspaper. Way before internet. I am dating myself. I still remember it to this day. Went like this. Camaro for sale: $1.00. Please call 815-xxx-xxxx. That was all it said. So, I called the number. A lady answers the phone. I said I was responding to the ad she placed in the paper. Her reply, "I'm sorry, I just sold it". I asked her, "Do you mind telling me what you got for it?" She seemed puzzled at the question. Her reply, "I thought I had the price listed in the ad". I said yes you did, but it only had $1.00, I thought that was a type-o. She laughed. Nope, that was all I wanted. My next question. "What was wrong with it?" Absolutely nothing was her reply. Now I am really upset that I missed this deal, but more important, why only $1.00. She then proceeds to fill me in. She purchased the car as a gift for her son. Her only stipulation was that he call her if he was running late. < Keep in mind; this was also before, cell phones. Well, he was running way late, the night before. Apparently he did not get home until around 2am. His mom quietly asked him where he had been and why he hadn't called. His response; Just out with the guys, sorry I did not call, I did not have a $1.00 to make change with so I could call from a pay phone. So she got up early that morning, asked to have an ad placed in the Sunday paper. Her son was with his dad that weekend. She said he did not know she was selling the car and furthermore, she could care less. But now he has a $1.00 and he can call me when he wants..... You got to be kidding me was my reply. She said, "I wish I was, but I am sure my son will now understand the value of him being responsible". I thanked her for the conversation and wished her the best with her son.

I haven't posted for a long time but I haven't stopped horsing around! I came up with a plan to teach my son how to repair small engines and learn the fundamentals of mechanical repair. He and his friend could help repair and sell to purchase another one and do the same. I also happen to be a Wheel Horse addict so this helps me with my obsession too. I found a Wheel Horse in the local classified add that looked like it would make a great project. After many e-mails and calls I finally was able to set a date and time to go check this hidden treasure out. When we reached our destination the old girl was sitting lonely and cold under a ragged worn out tarp. I had no idea what I had found because the sticker just said Wheel Horse. What more do you really need! The sellers inherited the tractor and did know much about her. They just said it was fun to ride on. It was missing one rear tire chain and the weights seem to be gone. They thought it had a mower but couldn't locate it. I offered $100.00 and took my chances know the motor had compression, wasn't seized and the tractor had a plow. He said yes and off we went. the old girl up We brought her home and warmed the old girl up in the garage. I still had no idea what she was but I knew it was worth a $100.00. The boys and I spent some time cleaning the leaves out, draining the old gas and checking the oil. We didn't take the carb apart or look at the spark plug yet I was too excited. We jumped the battery and she started right up. It sounds great and the automatic drive is sweet. Now the boys are Wheel Horse addicts too and they think we should keep her for our very own. It has hydraulic lift for the plow as well. What a cool fun find from 1968!

I've had a good friend (Gary Seaton) who has been battling with cancer of the spine for awhile now. I got a call from his wife Friday (9 days ago), and she said he was back in the hospital, and wasn't expected to pull through, so we loaded up and headed to Edmond Oklahoma. Gary was one of those people you couldn't help but love. He was the kind of guy who would walk up, put his arm around you, and say something encouraging. He was a true follower of Christ, and behaved like one. With that said, I had a great time visiting with him in the hospital, and even though he was in pain, he always had a smile on his face, and was happy to see me. While I was there, he grabbed my hand, and told me he wanted me to have his Case 222 garden tractor. He said he had always intended to get it fixed up, but had never got around to it, so he asked me to fix it up, and take good care of it. That is exactly what I intend to do, and this will always be a very special machine to me. We left OK on Monday, and got a call on Thursday that he had passed away. Please keep the Seaton family in your prayers, as they have suffered a great lose. The old Case runs very well, and both the engine, and hydraulic drive work great. The Case trans is not a hydrostat, its a true hydraulic drive with a pump bolted directly to the engine, and a large hydraulic motor bolted to the rearend. It has both high, and low range, and unlike a hydrostat, it is completely silent. All you hear is the engine load, no whine from the trans at all. It has a hydraulic deck lift as well. The old Kohler K301 runs very well, with no smoke or strange noises. I guess I wouldn't call this a restoration thread, as money is rather tight right now, but at the very least, everything will be repaired that needs it, and it will get a good coat of paint, and new decals. This will be a very special tractor to me. Here are a few pics. Thanks Matt

Big Thanks to LeeAve (Bill), we got a young family of three started as Wheel Horse people today. Scott, his wife, and their Son (Peanut) drove 2&1/2 hours east to pick up the 310-8 that had an engine transplant (upgraded from a M10 to a K301), a Brinly rear sleeve hitch mounted scrape blade, a Simplicity plow, and a factory WH Sleeve Hitch. I had to give Scott a crash course in Wheel Horse 101 as they were then headed up to Virginia to Bill's house to pick up a Johnny Bucket from him. Peanut was loving all the tractors and trucks at my house. I was kinda sad to see them leave so soon but they had a long drive ahead of them to get to Bill's, and then back home to Western NC. Now I have a little extra cash to spend on some already mounted up AG tires and wheels at the 2014 Show. Hopefully I'll score some nice ones like Mike did at this years show. This is the tractor but with a Red K301 engine in it instead of the M10 you see here. I do not have any pics of the tractor showing it finished with the Red engine installed.

All I have are inch spares. Sorry! Dave or Kelly among others have them. Post a wanted in our classified section.

Left a deposit on the 416 and a C series (bad motor) today. I would have brought them home but we got some nastiness out today. So I will go Thursday. Already talking to a guy about buying parts off that Sears SS18. When I get all ready I will post sime pics.

Its a 57 Chevy sedan its been painted for a few years now were finally going to finish it this winter. Going to put a small block in it with a four speed Hurst trans. The the motor for it puts out over 500 HP. But first my dad wants the tractor out of the garage.

Just a thought, based on lots of experience. As said a cheap ($25) battery will need frequent replacing. At that cost the battery is cheaply made, the bottom for holding spent lead is minimal or not there, the side insulation body is flimsy, the cell accessibility is minimal, the cells are small thus the low CCA, the terminals are small and weak, tightening does often break them. These batteries do not meet any known standard, thus vibration will break them down. You plan to remove and install when you use the tractor, the battery will not withstand the constant move about the different temperatures and you will surely bust the terminal connections. A lot of junk comes out of other countries…batteries being the worst, if the warranty is low in months, so is the quality of that battery., A note on charging. A battery tender is OK, but it must manage time of charge based on state of charge, if not charging a battery, lead acid battery for long unattended times at low current actually kills the battery as the electrolyte chemically and electrically becomes more of an insulator and less of a conductor. Lead acid batteries for automotive like a steady higher amperage charge and every so often do even better with an equalization charge. That is a high amperage timed charge with the voltage being tested to verify things are going the right way as the voltage increases and all this changes the electrolyte to a very good conductor. A simpler method is to fully charge the battery at 2A then when indicated full, by a light or test of voltage, undue the leads and let sit off a cement floor and then charge it gain in about a month or when the static voltage reading drops below 12.7V.D.C. In this way the battery will go from approximately 12.7-13.8 V WITH NO LOAD. Then in Spring fully charge the equalize before putting in service. A fairly good battery will last 8-10 years if maintained and the wiring, cables, connections and devices in a car, truck or a tractor are also checked 2x a year.

Yep your started on the slippery slope and it will only get more crowded around your place until your wife ( if you have one ) steps in with the ultimatum.

You know how it goes....... your mowing your yard trying to stretch your gas and you run out with about 2 passes left. Now it's time to drain it out for the season. You get as much out as you can and run it dry. Of course with almost no gas in it, it will run for over an hour!!

I'm in the last phase of my project and trying to determine where to put the stops for the front end pivot. The question is, can you have too much front axle articulation? It looks cool and as a driven axle it definitely benefits from all wheels on the ground... What do you guys think?

I got to see Steve's truck this past weekend, its solid as a rock, I'd say it has less rust on it then most ten yr old trucks. I love the originality of the truck myself. I don't know if Steve mentioned it or not but his Uncle owns a high end machine shop well known for building competition engines, if the original motor gets rebuilt it will be done right. I should have never mentioned to my wife about the Farm truck I almost purchased a month ago. I never asked permission and she never said no, (if she said no it would be in my driveway) but she talked me right out of it. All that left me was truckless and wonderin what could have been...She is in for a BIG surprise when the next one comes along...

I would vote for the 416-8 over the Sears too. Before I lost my mind and flooded the backyard with tractors, I had two. IMHO, the two tractor,same series wheelhorse plan is very desirable. You got commonality between tractors, Learn one tractor and apply that knowledge to both, and you always have a backup. Good luck, Bill

You need to open the draft controls and let it burn hot for up to 30 minutes every time you load up the stove, depending on how big you split your wood. You have to have to burn the moisture out of the wood and have some heat go up the chimney to keep the creosote from forming in the chimney. A good rule of thumb is, if it still looks like wood it's too soon to shut the air off. I heat my house with 2 wood burners, one on the south end of the house and one on the north end, I clean my chimneys once a year and don't get a 2 gallon bucket of creosote from both chimneys combined. I burn only hardwoods, mostly hickory and ash plus a little bit of maple and elm early in the season when it doesn't take much heat.

John, I had the pleasure of meeting jwl at the Jacksonville show a few weeks ago. Excellent people and I would pick the Hawkeyes in this game, but I wouldn't gain any ground on you guys. Dang, do you think the Cornhuskers will bring back the "Wishbone" offense for this game??? Is that the same truck we saw last year in Evanston...home of the Wildcats??

Mike: Scott sent me pics of the 416 today. It is definitely a M16 Magnum. He wants two Wheel Horses, and I believe he will be able to handle most any LAGT chore with the pair. Van, need a tiller. Maybe I get one in Pa. Peanut wants to go. He kept saying "yay tractor".

It is sunny and 76 on my side of the state...best mod I did was give my snowblower to my neighbor...now I can watch him clean my driveway while I enjoy a hot cup of java in front of the fireplace~~~!!!...(going to be a LONG winter as all of the woolly worms are solid black)

That bottom I think your talking about is part of the bearing. knock it out just like the others. the 1533 bearings, if they're good, just leave them in. if not, they're hard for me to get out without wrecking them. I got a pair out of a trans once by setting the case in an old gas grill and putting one burner on low for a while and heating it up. they seem to popout then..(or i just got lucky). but I made sure everything was cleaned up in a parts washer first.

I put some adjustable wheel on my blower. They work good

I have been looking for about a year on and off (but not seriously due to funds to purchase). Well last night I came across an ad on CL for this 1949 Chevy 3100. It is from Kansas and all original and untouched. As you can see from the pictures it needs some work but I really like the year/model and color of this one. The last time this was registered was 40 years ago (the year I was born in 1973). Someone took the time to seal off the carb and gas tank with plastic. The motor is looked up but I think it should free up with a little work. Either way I think the motor will be coming out in the spring or earlier for a refresh. I have no plans of repainting this truck. At most I will clear coat it and maybe some touch up of old pinstriping. I am really looking forward to this project. It actually looks pretty good next to my new mini barn....

I've considered power coating but some of the powder coat jobs I've seen on tractors look like they have an egg shell finish. I wouldn't know where to go in my area, the only guy I'd trust to do a killer job is Martin!

Welcome to RS. That's a super nice 414-8 you got there. IMHO, that is on of the finest tractors Wheelhorse ever made - and your's has the Kohler magnum in it too (read no points, etc.).

Cool! I had an old Chevy P/U that was 8 different colors. I called it my Easter Egg truck!

Looks like a pretty good starting point. Be sure to keep us update on your progress!

I am using a piece of UHMW on my 48" blade and it's holding up great!

Like Glen mentioned, companies will give more of a break if you take more in. Most big places will just quote a 'lot charge', total . I would go back to them and ask if they would give you a break on multiple items. That price is not out of line if you just take one wheel in. Set up is where a lot of the cost is. For that price $50 is probably just setup. The company I work for would be around $150-200 for 4 wheels. But if you sent 8 in, they would run $250-300 total. More is better. Takes 1/2 hour to setup a color, less than 5 min to paint one wheel........ 15-20 minutes to blast, maybe 45 minutes for all 4. If the wheels are powder already that would need to be stripped first. If you want more info on powdercoat search 'powdercoat', 'kvf' on here, I've already written a bit on here you can read without repeating and doubling up info on the forum.
