10 pointsI can not think of any better way to show are gratitude for are Freedoms in this country than to just say to a Veteran those simple two words than Thank You. So to all the Men and Women who have paid a debt from the days of General George Washington and the Continental Army to the Troops serving today. THANK YOU

4 pointsComedian Ray stevens has been known for a lot of things over the years ("The Streak"etc.) but sincerity has not been one of them until now. I found an online vidio titled "Thank You" which is a salute to all Veterans. Watch, enjoy and pass it on.

4 pointsI had the honor of attending an amazing Veterans Day program at our elementary school this morning with my little kindergartener. I have never been more proud to have served in the armed forces of our country. The program was fantastic, it's very clear that patriotism is a very high priority for our school and our town. It was very well attended and supported. It brought tears to my eyes to have 700 little Kindergarten-4th graders stand up and recite the Pledge of Allegiance and sing "God Bless the USA" and "Thank You Soldiers" to the large group of veterans that were there. After the program, then all the kids who had veterans there took them on a hand in hand parade through the halls, which were lined both sides all the way through the school with students and teachers all holding/waving little flags, and who were saying "Thank you for your service." I have never been more proud, and my little girl just beamed. She was so proud to be walking through with me. To all my fellow veterans. Thank you for your service and sacrifice. This continues to be the Land of the Free because of you. Semper Fidelis. Edit: received a copy of the teacher's picture today.

4 pointsUp for consideration is my 1977 C160 auto. When I came to me it did not run and had a broken piston. Sat outside at previous owners house because of the engine problem. Now it is my main worker. Runs like a champ. I use it for snow removal, generator, home made mid blade, loader, tilling, plowing, and just plain lugging power. If it needs a hole drilled I thoughtfully do it. If it takes duals it gets them. JD front axle is for the 1" spindles for the loader. My custom weight bracket is in the first pic. Whatever it takes to save all the other horses some pain. Here is a couple pics.

3 pointsOnce again it is that time of the year when living on a 100% wooded lot is no longer fun. All summer long we enjoy the shade provided by the 80 to 100 foot tall oak trees, but when the leaves begin to drop in October, the job of cleaning them up continues until late in November. So each year I wonder, how do other members get rid of their leaves. Here is what I use. This is my Simplicity Broadmoor with a Cyclone Rake attached. This is a shot of the dump pile where all of 2013's leaves go. This pile composts nicely over the winter, and in the spring I will have several cubic yards of beautiful soil for patching and planting. The other problem with living in the woods on a lot filled with "old growth" red oak trees, is that they are all dying from Gypsy Moth blight. So each year, we are forced to take down dead trees. Here is the wood pile from seven of them that I had to have taken down last week. The only plus to this expensive problem is that three of the biggest trees were sitting next to the Wheel Horse stable. This will allow me to extend the building in the spring to accommodate the ever-growing herd of horses. I lined up all the ones that currently don't have shelter to see what size building I need to build. So that's my story for this fall. By the way, you might be wondering about the Simplicity. I don't have any Wheel Horses with a side discharge deck and a two-point hitch on the back for the Cyclone Rake. So it is pulled by my Simplicity.

3 pointsIf you have not stopped to consider where we would be today, were it not for our Armed Forces, of yesterday and today please remember to do so.... I want to thank each of you who took the time to dedicate a portion of your life for this great country. In case some of us have forgotten what we have been through, just listen to the words of Johnny Cash....The Old Ragged Flag:

3 pointsIf I may share a little story that happened to me. I travel a lot with my job, sitting at the gate in Atlanta airport waiting on a flight to Dallas, TX. I had only been away from home for 3 weeks and on the last leg. I noticed a young Marine kept going to the counter checking to see if he was on the flight. This young Marine was on 2 weeks R-R from Iraq, and the date was Nov 8. He was trying to get home in time for the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, of which he was the 4th generation Marine in his family. Talking with him, found out he had been waiting at the airport since the night before. I talked with the gate agent, gave up my seat so he could get home. When they called his name, he was extremely excited. He sat down beside me, and asked me about his seat number. I told him he was up in the front and how lucky he was. I provided my cell phone so he could call his folks and let hem know he had a flight home. The best part of all of this was the phone call I received later that night from a very happy Mom and a most gracious Dad. The things we do for our Service Members might seem trivial to us, but the voice of a thankful Mom and Dad is worth much more. Thanks to all Soldiers, Sailors, Marine, Airmen and Guardsmen that have served or still serving. Semper Fi.

3 pointsBack at you Sir! We may have worn different uniforms and picked on each other from time to time, but all that have worn a uniform and carried it's weight will always be brothers in a way that civilians will never understand. God Bless this great Country.

2 pointsThings seemed to have slowed down some the past week, but there for a while it seemed tractors were popping up right and left around here with people cleaning out their garages and sheds for winter. Despite some attempt at will power, I ended up doing my part to help others with their cleaning projects. The first of my two most recent scores is a Bronco 14. The seller listed this tractor on CL a year ago for $500. Too high to interest me, but he relisted it several times, and finally worked his way down to $200. At that price, my resistance weakened and I couldn't help but take a look. It hadn't run since before he listed it the first time, so I had to take his word that it would run and drive OK. The engine, with the starter/generator setup is obviously not original. The tag on it comes back as a Wheel Horse 10HP from '66 or '67, but there is also a sticker on it saying 12HP with a replacement spec number on it. The engine block is primer gray, so it is probably a replacement. The snow plow is a short frame that has been lengthened, and has the older style axle mount. Not pretty, but I'd been wanting a hydro tractor to play with, or at a minimum, some parts to use on a project I had in mind, so after a little haggling it found it's way onto my trailer. The second tractor I picked up was a '73 8HP 4spd. This one was a roadside-sale find that I had told myself twice I didn't need. My mistake was taking pictures the second time I went by it. After seeing the on here recently about an 8HP 4Spd, and looking again at the pictures, I reconsidered, but told myself only if it was a good deal. The seller was a nice older gentleman who told me it didn't have many hours on a fresh engine rebuild, but when the battery died he parked it in the barn and starting using a different mower. There it sat for the past 20 or so years, until he recently pulled it out to sell. He said he tried to start it and it would crank but not fire, He accepted my $100 offer, so it came home with me. It may be a little crazy, but my plan for these is to merge the two. I have been wanting a short wheel base hydro, so I'd like to use the hydro drive and lift from the Bonco, and the front frame and hood from the 8HP 4Spd. For the engine, I'm going to try to shoehorn the 12HP in there. I've done a bunch of measuring and so far the only real stumbling block I see is getting the air cleaner to fit. I'm sure there will be other issues, and having the two side by side I can see it will be more of a challenge than I first thought, but it should be a good winter project. First things first though, My immediate plan is to get each one checked out and hopefully running, so I can see what is good and what is not. Mechanically, the 8HP 4Spd is pretty similar to my 854, so that one is somewhat "old hat", but I'm sure the Bronco's hydro will prompt some questions. Thanks, Dave

2 pointsVisited my friend today as I do every year at least twice Veterans Day and Memorial Day.He gave his life on a hill at Dak To in 1967.I have tried to forgive the politicans who sent him to a war that they never intended to win.I have tried to forgive the people who spat on my friends and called them baby killers.I have tried, but can't do it .I will forever believe you cowards.

2 pointsKen -Please deliver the DXI to me- I think we can do something to make it a real Tractor )

2 pointsThanks for all the advice guys. Valve to tappet clearances were WAY out of spec, long overdue. The carbon on the heads wouldn't come off with simply a scotch brite pad and brake parts cleaner, so I got the dremel out and found a few mini waffer pads and very carefully sanded the carbon off, made them look brand new. Also checked the gasket surface on the head for level/smoothness and all was good there. Moved to the piston, nice layer of grease around the bores while at bottom center, put back to top and took a utility knife blade and carefully scrapped all the carbon from the pistons, the blade worked really well for this. Little polish with the scotch brite afterwards then moved to valves, no grooves, burn marks so I cleaned them up and slapped it all back together and now it starts much easier than it did and purs like a kitten. Ran it wide open Saturday for 2.5 hrs straight chopping leafs, never skipped a beat, changed the oil before hand of course and added a little marvel mystery oil in the gas and oil. Seems to be a little easier on fuel too. The only thing i hate about the tractor is the constant clogging of the flywheel screen but there's nothing you can do about it. Hopefully She has another 1000 hrs in her. Now to the steering slop fix.

1 pointI decided i would branch form GTTalk and join here as well... I am looking to get a B80 with a snow blade, and im wondering if its worth $200. its in great shape, but needs solenoid and regulator. It smokes a tiny bit on startup but it dont bother me... Thoughts? these are the only pics i have as of now... i will try to get more later.

1 pointSwitching over to a 312-H for blowing duty this winter. I have some lights to hook up and install the Bervac suitcase weights on the back. Picked up this cab and tall chute blower for a song and can't wait to try this new setup.
-
1 pointI'm kinda in the same shoes as you now - new to me tractor with a cab and blower, plus I added a plow, and I'm ready to play in the snow. They are calling for snow here tonight and tomorrow - maybe 8 inches total. I took of the deck and put on the plow after work today. Maybe I'll get to try it out tomorrow. I told my wife - don't shovel that snow - leave it for me!

1 pointNo pics of the outside but i picked up some 3/8 gravel and spread it around the back and side of the shed to clean it up and keep the weeds down. I also changed the fire surround using the metal roof panels. I installed trim pieces on the sides and top. The bottom is open about 3 inches from the floor and there is about 2 inches of space behind the panels to allow for air to circulate. The panels will get painted with high heat paint as well.

1 point, I have a 1975 B-80 and have been using it for plowing (gardens) this year. Since I have the chains on and fluid in the tires, I will use it as a back-up snow plowing tractor this winter.
-
1 pointBe sure to ask for any Wheel Horse parts and paperwork that may come with it (manuals are free downloads here). It does look like the snow blade attachment bracket is in place under the rear axle, that's good (saves you $40-50). Ask for attachments and deck. The PTO lever must be in the up position to start.
-
1 pointWith the blade included I think that $200 is a pretty good price. That paint looks like it will clean up nicely. Must have been stored covered as it isn't faded much at all.
-
1 pointIt runs, but it smokes a little on startup. Its only 30 min away from home. Anyone know what to look for when buying these? anything to specificly check? Anyone got some info in general on this? sorry for the questions, im converting from cub to horse... :greetings-clappingyellow:
-
1 pointLooks to be in pretty good shape. Even if you have to buy a regulator and solenoid I think its a good deal at $200. Make sure you don't let the oil level get too low, it'll kill that little Kohler. The B80 is an awesome little tractor for pushing snow
-
1 pointWe are cleaning out the barn and my son parked these in a row. A 523Dxi, C-195, D200 and Kubota B6100. I like my Horses but that old Kubota will work circles around them.
-
1 pointThey saay you might be getting about 6 inches over from LaPorte east. Lake effect snow they say. You might get some seat time tomorrow.
-
1 pointIsn't that the truth Martin! I scored a really good deal on the blower and cab......I didn't even wear a mask when I picked it up!
-
1 pointThat's just great Scott, now that you've got that new setup... you know it's never gonna snow.
-
1 pointthe same thing as the rest of the nfc east. lol in typical giants fashion, they are coming out of the darkness as the rest of the division enters it. lol

1 pointThanks for the replys. I know desktop diagnosing sucks. Just looking for ideas. I think I will get it. 200 is his bottom dollar. I walked him down because of the trans. I have experience with cars just wasn't to sure how these worked. Looking at the pics and videos here I find it looks to be the same just smaller. I will post some pics when I pick it up tomorrow. Thanks!

1 pointThat tractor sure looks alot better next to your Suburban than it did sitting in line with those Cubs where it was. Glad to hear that it runs like Tom said it would. I still can't believe how well it all worked out for you. Being able to help out a friend and fellow collector is what makes this hobby fun. Dave

1 pointHaven't been paying as much attention to the "Queenies" as some of their closet fans but as long as they win on Nov. 24th I will be happy.

1 pointtook some pics today for the calendar thread.... i think I'm at a stage where except for some minor repair to the electrical and finishing off the dash decals, i can call this one done now. in the pics for the calendar i stole the seat off my c125, so maybe a new seat would be nice as its got some rips in it. would like to replace it with a oem seat exactly the same as the ripped one i have now. its ready for snow duty this winter and I'm hoping for some big falls to give this one a good work out. the onan is running sweet, best running twin i have right now.... big difference to how it looked here....(i think its the decals that did it....) heres a video of all my twins in a row........
-
1 pointThis is the plow I brushed. A little wax, and the snow rolls like a wave. Here's the 551 I brushed the frame on, and sprayed the tins. The spray came out a bit glossier, but I went straight from the can with the brushing and would try lightly thinning next time, or flo-through.
-
1 pointOn a blade I would not thin it. I've brush painted a lot with Rustoleum, and never thinned it,
-
1 pointI'm not sure that I agree that they are unpopular. There are a bunch of guys that sing the praises of the B80's (myself included) and the 73 models were basically the same as the later B's. I don't love the styling but the K181 is a great motor, and if you stay with a sensibly sized deck they perform well. Much more economic on fuel, quieter, great snow pushers. I've been threatening to scrap my B80 for about 5 years now, but somehow I always seem to find another use for it, and it dodges the chopping block again.
-
1 pointMaybe you guys could use a little shot of the ol' Tebow over there? How's that for offensive?
