Found this on Craigslist this afternoon. Stands about 15 in. high and about 12 in. wide. Lights up and tuns slow. I have never seen one. Has anyone else seen one of these or now about them?

This lighted sign hung high over Norm's Wheel Horse Barn in St. Charles, Mo. from 1974 to 1996. When the business was sold in 96, the sign was given to Norm as a keepsake from the business. The sign then sat in a barn for the next 17 years. Two weeks ago I acquired the sign back from Norm. After almost 40 years of enduring the elements, the sign now hangs proudly inside my son's shop above several Wheel Horse tractors. I think it is a fitting retirement for a survivor. The first picture was taken in 1988 where the sign hung above Norm's. The second picture is where the sign hangs today.

Quick update... Got the front sliding doors done. Bought the exterior light from the local flea market last weekend but still needs to be wired. Momma did not like the white windows and had suggested I go with the green so they got painted today. This weekend if all goes well, my cousins Timbo and Toddbo will be up to pull the wires through and get me some light!! I also hope to get the wood stove up and running too. Here are a few pics...

Backup data.... blah blah blah.... you've all heard this but is it really important. Most of you are aware that I have a degree in Computer Science and work for a very large technology company, but even I was lax at one time. Back in 2000, I had a brand new laptop computer. Like many of you, I put all my digital pictures from my children's first years on it. The computer developed a problem which required service and I sent it in for repair which turned out to be a bad mother board. Part of the repair was that they not only replaced the mother board, but the hard drive as well and I lost everything! The actual value of the data lost was small, but these were irreplaceable pictures which I will never have again all because I didn't do a backup, after all it was a new machine anyway. Since then, I have purchased external hard drives which cost like $100 and my computers are now backed up HOURLY which is a good thing. This past weekend I had to replace the keyboard on my MacBook Pro (because of a liquid spill). I have no idea what happened, but when the computer was booted back up, the hard disk was corrupted and required a complete format to fix. THIS time, it was not a problem, I formatted the drive, and restored the backup. I lost only 3 hours of my time doing this, and kept all my data which includes all the information about RedSquare! It's not just data loss like this, but there's a new NASTY malware on the loose. This program comes by e-mail and will encrypt all your files. You then receive a notice where to PAY to get the key to unlock them. If you do not pay, you do not get to access your files PERIOD! Having a backup will protect you! If you have data on your computer which would hurt to lose, spend the money NOW and back it up. Don't wait to lose your children's pictures to learn the lesson!

Hello All, I went to Windham Technical High School tonight for there open house as my son is interested in attending. So I looked through the electrical, automotive, HVAC, Architectural and then came to manufacturing / machining . As I'm walking through I see a plasma table with a sheet of 1/8" plate steel with a whole bunch of emblems and doo dads cut out of it. Then I see the Wheel Horse emblem outline!!! I ask the teacher about it and he said "Oh Denny cut that out for his tractor" . I say tractor??? What tractor???---the teacher says he can't show me but that its a Wheel Horse WITH A TURBO CHARGER the kid fabricated all of the plumbing for and that it runs and the kid was trying to figure out how to get oil to the turbo and back. Long story short I left all my contact info and a note for him to call me and check out Redsquare!!! I will help get the kid anything he needs to finish up his project. It was just plain cool as heck to see and a pic of it is below. The teacher tried to fire up the machine and cut one out for me but the high voltage wouldn't kick in. He was stumped.... maybe I can get Denny to cut one out for me. Tony

It's been a quiet summer I have been trying to downsize and only buy horses and attachments that I really want but I couldn't resist this one for the price. 1991 520H Onan runs but only on 1 cylinder I haven't taken the time to figure out what is wrong with the rear cylinder hopefully just a valve seat. Previous owner added a set of tines to the tiller so it is a 42 inch, I was digging around and found some hubcaps and some misc parts, cab is nice and was mounted on the tractor but I figured it wouldn't do very well at highway speed so I removed it. This was always garage kept and well maintained so everything works great, only 690 hours. Now to repair or part out????

Might be of interest to some, our new purchase arrived today. We got the tractor going after a bit of cleaning (points, coil, carb etc) so decided to fit the mower. All well so far we got it all bolted on OK but we are missing the lift rod and trhe rod that holds it up for transport. Ill get the materials needed to make these parts at the weekend and hopefully get it sorted. The original parts drawing and manual are a saviour and of course the ability to search this forum! Sorry about the picture quality, the barn is lacking lights. James . . .

No it is not the same as the Deere and Massey transaxle. It is somewhat lighter.

Working from memory here, so you will have to look around, but, there is a good utube video out there, just looked at it about three days ago. Shows in good detail how to rig a foot control linkage to the hand lever. Pretty simple the way he did it, and it frees up a hand to run the front loader controls. Think I was searching for transmission repairs for wheel horse tractors, or something like that when I came across it. He did not identify the tractor he installed it on, but seeing the way he did it, it would be easy to improvise.

except torque is a ROTARY (twisting) motion, not like running in a straight line. given your example of a 100 pound ballast on both subjects, if the bodybuilder gets the same work accomplished in half the time - he has twice the "horsepower" of the sprinter. Both are required to do the exact same work and the higher HP rating will get the work done in less time.

I wouldn't go buying a set of Ag's if your thinking they are the best snow tires....they are not. Turfs with chains beats ag's everytime and ag's are horrible in the snow when your going in reverse.. As far as wheel weights, any brand of weight made for a 12" rim will fit. Start scanning Craigslist and the classifieds here, or post your own wanted ad. I prefer the cast ones for a few reasons including that they dont stick out as far from the edge of the rim as the plastics do. Wheel weights are shippable (one per package) so maybe one of our vendors can ship you a set. I've heard that there is an "If it fits it ships" box at the post office that a single weight will fit into for a fair price. Mike.........

Thanks to the input from everyone that chimed in on my "Introductions" post, I am now the proud owner of a B100. This is my first tractor and I'm pretty excited about it. I found this tractor on CL. It was more than two hours away so I was hesitant to look at it because there were a couple other Wheel Horses that were closer and cheaper, but this was the only B100. So I posted on this site for input, and everybody recommended the B100. So my two year old, Demarco, and I took a little road trip out to take a look at it. The guy that was selling it worked at a Wheel Horse dealership for 20 some odd years before they were purchased by Toro. Now he buys old tractors, fixes them up and sells them. Although this one shows its age, he did a great job getting it work ready. The tractor fired right up. I took it for a ride, ran it through all the gears, ran the deck and just played around with it for a while. Everything seems to work great. Only a little smoke when the choke was on at start up, no oil dripping that I could see and the rear axel seals are holding in the lube. I ended up paying $500 for it which may have been a little high, but it was complete, came with a snow plow and needs nothing done to it (other than making it pretty). I know you guys love photos, so I took some for you.

The blade and chains aren't in the $75 price-tag. Otherwise, it'd alread be on my trailer. He's wanting another $175 for them. Oh ok. I would pass then if I were you.

ol550 is right. The trans is a Peerless 1400 whereas the John Deere 110 used a Peerless 2300. The trans on the 800 Special is light duty and is not like a Wheel Horse Uni Drive or John Deere 110/112 or 200 series at all. I think the 800S is more of a lawn tractor then a garden tractor. Like I said before, it was an economical tractor as it did not have a Kohler or a Uni Drive trans. Nothing wrong with that, just will not be as heavy duty as a regular Wheel Horse. If you are ok with that, go for it. If not, I would wait for a Wheel Horse with a Kohler and a Uni Drive trans. Just my 2 cents. If you get it, yes, you would have to fab up some kind of rear lift. Hope this helps, Taylor

it is a trac-vac mounting bracket. i have 1 and use it for suit case weights on my 520-H and 2 stage blower, but i wish mine was longer because the weights hits the fender pan eric j

Lars, I really like your new Wheel Horse. You have a very good collection of Wheel Horses now. Do you know of others in Norway who are Wheel Horse collectors?
  24. 1 point
Wait, is it the same trans as the JD 110/112, and 200 series? If so, it'll be pretty much on par with the WH trans from my knowledge. So I won't really have the option of a rear lift unless I rig something?
  25. 1 point
So it's more-or-less Wheel Horse's way of getting rid of surplus parts between series/style changes? Good marketing idea, especially when these models would be in limited supply. Is there anything I should look out for on the Peerless? What kind of rear lift would this unit use? Thanks! Your welcome! Yes, that is correct. I believe it was made out of surplus parts (They did this with the Wheel Horse 603 and a few other models). Yes, it was a great way to get rid of extra parts for sure. I would just check the normal on the Peerless: seals, fluid level, make sure it shifts if all gears good and rolls good. Again, it will not be the heavy duty Wheel Horse Uni Drive, but should be ok. As far as lift goes, you will have a mid manual lift for deck, plow etc. As far as a rear lift goes, the only thing you should have (or at least mine has) is a small reciever hitch mounted to trans (This is not a normal wheel horse receiver hitch and is not connected to any type of lift cable)

I got an updated pic of the Halloween set up. I added some corn stalks and moved the scarecrow geeker up to the tractor, a 1974 A-90 Special. A 1970's Model with a 1960's square hood!

you are getting quite a collection there Lars i didnt realise those LXI models were so big . she looks to be nice n clean Is the Hood & panels, fender steel or plastic ?
  28. 1 point
Nice collections Lars. I also have an xi machine but only a 520xi (not liquid cooled) in addition to a c-series and a 314. All of mine are workers. Looks like you have plenty of room for more (I am envious), but I prefer to put my automobiles in the garage. Makes me think twice about picking up another. I hope you have good luck with your new machine. It is much more complicated than anything in the WH family, but in my three years of ownership, quite trouble free.

Thanks so much guys and I am glad you are enjoying the posts. Here lately many of them are starting to look a lot alike. Hopefully as things progress we will be able to get in to some different types of body work, filler, priming, more sanding, and then before too long some red paint will be hitting some of these pieces. I can honestly say that this has been a highlight of many of my weeks. The kids are very ambitious and have a great sense of humor as we love sharing jokes each Wednesday. Even though we have until the end of May to get this thing done, I am already feeling the stress of making that deadline. I am sure we will make it and we will meet more than once a week if we need to. Thanks for checking up on this thread. I always look forward to sharing our experience with you!

I've repaired a few decks. My procedure worked well for me. 1st, deck off (duh!), I then cut sheetmetal approx to cover holes. Clamp plates where needed and drill. I then, re-bolt removed parts. Use stainless steel bolts, flat and lock washers, locking nuts too. I run a tap, clean threads where the pulley cover is secured. Then, I MIG stitch weld the plates to the deck. After welding (or someone welding for you), I disassemble the deck for cleaning 'n painting. Underside of the deck I don't care 'bout the color. Topside I use Rustoleum® Regal Red (rattle cans), suites me. All parts were hung in my barn and painted before reassembly. Of course using stainless hardware, lockin' nuts, new belts, wheels and rollers. Paint the spindle housings under the deck, they hate moisture and will rot! Here's a pic to give you a view. Keep in mind the pic is only part of my deck project. Should have taken more pics but you get the idea. I've done this to decks quite a few times, always worked well. Light gauge sheet metal and SS hardware are available at Home "Cheapo" and Lowes. Lowes has a better selection of SS hardware. If some SS bolts are not available, use Never-Seez® on the threads. Shown before tack welding. Under the deck, heavy on the paint. I usually use a brush there. Grandson loves sittin', and a little drivin', the Stallions. Horse below is sportin' the cleaned and reworked deck.

I had a local welding shop fix mine. They cut out the bad section which ended up being about 3"x4". Welded in the new piece and gave it a shot of primer on both sides. It was dropped off in the morning and I picked it up on the way home from work.....price...$30 ! Cant beat that compared to the price of a new shell! Mike............

My buddy and I went together and bought 3 of these lifts at one time at a real good price. They are 1500 lbs lifts and work great for working on tractors. With us buying them as a package deal we got them for $600 each. Watch the classified ads and Ebay, you may be able to find a used one at a good price.

If you end up getting that tiller for anyone... make sure you check all the tractors for the axle bracket and all the idler pulleys for it.

Van, I'm so with you on this one. I have inherited lots of tools from my grandfather after he passed a few years back. I'm sure most of us have for that matter. I'm not going to hang the tools on the wall and treat them like "collectables" I'm going to use them. Every time I grab a tool and put it in action I remember where I got it and think of him!

Stig, I have been following this thread since you started it on 08 August 2009! Here it is 03 November 2013 and just checked out the latest pictures and video. As some one who has also made my own mechanical creations out of Wheel Horse Tractors (not to your extent!), I'm blown away and the job you did on the 6X6. It looks just awesome. Your persistence for the last 4 years is a testament to the back yard engineer! I salute you my friend!

Morning all, due to a mixture of circumstances and a lack of funds this wheel widening lark is taking a lot longer to get going than I hoped.... But.. Things are well and truly on the move now Can you guess what it is yet? This might help a bit.. Yep, it's a cutting for wheels... Just turn the grinder on and gently turn the wheel against the cutting blade. The first cut.. It's interesting watching the heat line grow inside the rim.. Ta-Daa, cleanly cut into two.. Have a sparky action shot taken from my up and coming "How to" video Steel has been ordered to do the "widening bit" which should be here by Tuesday at the latest, so fingers crossed I should have the first pair of wide wheels done by the end of next week..
