Well, I've been out of town for a few days, and just got back last night, so I hadn't got much done on it. However, when I got back I had a couple things that had come in the mail. I got a care package from Glen Pettit, including a repro throttle knob, and a few other items. Glen does great work!! I also got some 23x10.50-12 AG's, and some tri-ribs. The clutch pedal came in as well, so now it drives. Here are a few pics. Matt

i got so worked up about steve painting that blade of his, i just knew i needed to redo the blade on this one now before winter. nothing better than red paint shining while pushing some snow. so i took it into work yesterday and blasted/powdercoated it. put it together this morning with mostly new hardware and mounted it on the 416. did a bit of driving around and then decided i needed to paint the black on the grill as its looking a little shabby..... looks like its going to need decals and a seat now.......

And stop searching CL so much focus on what you have instead of what you could have that's really helped me stop spending the money

This will be my first tractor project. Don't get too excited, I have a few other projects going on so this will probably string out over the next decade or so. I love older mechanical stuff. I like finding and rebuilding old motorcycles. I'm only a purist on pre WW2 stuff, so this probably won't be a stock resto. I love the ag tires I have seen on your tractors, so I will eventually get some of those. Other than that, this will be just a basic clean up and paint. I'm still working on a couple bikes right now that I have not yet finished. This one is my current project bike:

After experiencing the pleasure of swapping out attachments a few times I found it would be more efficient (for me) to just buy one tractor for each attachment and leave it on all the time. It wasn't worth my time and back strain to regularly swap attachments. Plus, as I was acquiring various attachments, they tended to come with worker tractors.

603 Special, 500 Special, A-90 Special. 800 Special. Ain't that special! The 603 was special because WH used their remaining stock of older WH parts from their inventory shelves. So they sold that Model for a cheaper price, basically a parts shelf clearing economy tractor. It also incorporated the new for 1964 styled parts. You can have a 603 with a lot of different parts on it from one 603 to the next. A 500 Special is special because it was associated with the Indianapolis 500 Race. The A-90 Special was special because it had the older parts from their inventory shelves like the 603 had. WH did that every few years to use up old parts in their inventory. My A-90 Special is a 1974 WH and it has the 1965 through 1969 style of square hood. It also has an older style of Briggs engine on it and some other parts as well. My 800 Special is a hydrastat drive and I don't know what makes it special as I quit using it a few years ago. So that is all I know about Special Models! LOL!

I don 't own one, nor do I have a picture of one, but I do know of a model named the 420 LSE (Limited Special Edition) that I think was only made for one year.

If I still had my Built 69 SS Big Block Chevelle (with all the hidden goodies and setup proper.) I'd take that bet. Sold it a few years ago so you won't be seein my tail lights anytime soon... I know there are some wicked fast new cars, I owned a Shelby and a Subaru WRX Turbo and it is true, many of these new cars will lay a spankin on the cars of yesteryear. As an old school guy there ain't nothing cooler than an old car from the 60's that is setup proper showin a new car whats up, and from time to time it does happen. I know its an old thread and my comment is totally non related to tractors but I couldn't resist!

Some of those old type garages still exist here in UK , but sadly they are slowly dying out , only the other day i went into a garage to get some fuel and an old guy climbed out from under a car , wiping his hands on an old rag , wearing a pair of oily overalls , He was smartly dressed under his overalls with a shirt & tie and well polished shoes , He then went on to write me a written receipt and then put my money in an old metal tin and then put it under the counter.and then crawled back undereath the car that he aws working on. It brought a smile to my face when i looked into his workshop and noticed all the old tools that he was using with old stickers all over his tool box. It brought back some wonderful memories of my childhood

So... What did you do for your Wheel Horse today? I mounted up my wheel weights and put on the chains. Had to cut down and rethread the bolts for the wheel weights. That kept me out of trouble today. How 'bout you? What did you do for your Wheel Horse today?

Like another member said, focus on what you have rather than what you could have. Me personally I would rather have a couple WH's that I can focus on, keep up to snuff, and use and enjoy than a bunch of them that are just sitting there, not being used much, or at all, need work, in the way, taking up space, etc. There is always going to be more come along, and there is always going to be good deals come along. You can't have them all. Accepting that might help you focus on other things more. It makes the next nice score more special and enjoyable also in my opinion.

Your garage looks awful ! You have too much room, and not enough Wheel Horses and Wheel Horse parts in there. Be ashamed of yourself man!

Like the others said, its probably a little rust/crud build up inside. Moisture from the compressor causes a bit of corrosion on the valves etc. Just adding some oil may get it all working, if not it'll need pulling apart and cleaning. Marvel Mystery oil does an air tool lubricant. I use it, but haven't had a tool apart since I started using it to see how good it works.

Your right, it does seem like a long way for the oil to travel, but I had the valve cover off the other day, and there was plenty of oil up there. I don't think I would allow this engine to idle for extended periods of time though. Matt

Ditto on the 120 lb. Using a very scientific bathroom scale................I weighed my P220 with muffler, PTO bell attached and tins included and I got just shy of 120 lbs. It might be a little heavier as this scale was a POS but my ex kept it around so she probably knew it weighed things a little under!

You could always set up an early HY-2 type configuration to retain your hydraulic lift option..

i will be using my 416H this year for the gravel and sidewalks down the street.. and my ariens 24" walk behind blower tackles the real deep stuff....... it just loves this stuff, remember throwing it at least 20ft each side of the driveway on this snowfall, which was our freak storm ( for quad cities winters) 2/11....... if you look at the pic below, just about all the thrown snow is out of the pic either side.....

I remember the old hand pump gas pumps with the gallon gradations inside the glass. There was a Esso station like that about a mile from our house.

This thread is full of very useful ideas and information about a topic that will affect all 'D' owners in the end. I once suggested in another very useful thread that we really need a 'D' section on the forum and quite a few owners agreed. 'D's are so very different that I really believe there is a case for this so I'm about to start a thread in the site suggestions section. If you agree then please check it out and lend your support and thanks for the info above.
