Well it was a good time at the auction today. It was cold and windy but most of the prices for stuff was cheap or reasonable. I got what I went there for, a 1965 Model 1045. It was in rough shape though. I knew I had most of the parts for it laying around. I got the 1045 for $85.00 and found the original mower deck for it laying in a large pile of mower decks. I got the deck for $20.00. I also got another rare 1962 WH snow plow for a cheap price of $35.00. I got a old RJ style BF Goodrich front tire for an early RJ35 for $5.00, a hard to find tread pattern. The 1959 Bolens went for $85.00, the GT14 went for $110.00. The 502/856 went for $150.00 or so. Not too bad. There was about 4 or 5 WH collectors there but only one other Redsquare member, Greg from Southwestern Ohio. He bought the grey Horse for about $110.00 and some others for cheap. I'll post pics of my 1045 pile on a separate topic.

While learning where to obtain parts for my 1993 520HWheel Horse Vendor PN XRef 10_26_13.doc I created a table to keep track of the different vendor parts and sometimes differences in cost. It's still a work in process and far from complete, but figure I'd post if it will help others. p3x

Sounds like the Techy/auto is really scarce. Maybe I should retire and restore my '74 120 Techy auto. . Naaaahhh...the little Indian would probably die if it couldn't work.

I put a set of duals on my RJ58 project tractor. Also jacked it down in the front with a set of smaller bar lugs. It's got the original 4 hp Kohler on it. I took the small butt type of seat off it for my 1956 RJ35 and the gas tank got sniped off it too. I replaced the seat with the correct type but now I need a gas tank for it. I will have to sand blast and paint this seat and the front rims. Click on the pics for a larger image. Stick it back in the shed until next time....KJ

Well I finally got the hard to find Model 1045 ! This is one of my favorite WH's but I never got a deal on one until now. Thanks to Speedy Leedy for the tip! It was in rough condition until I got it home and started stripping off the junk and replacing parts and tires. All 4 tires were the wrong ones. I have hoarded up 1045 front tires for years and put a set on the machine for a nice factory look. I replaced the skinny 6X12 rear tires with the correct 8X12's. Replaced the wrong seat with the correct style. I also added a 10 hp generator belt guard. I cleaned up some of the paint but didn't get too far on that before it got dark. So I will work on it some more tomorrow. I also got the original rectangle mower deck for $20.00! Bought another 1962 WH snow plow for $35.00. I just got a 1962 snow plow a couple weeks ago with that 552 I snagged.

Since I have sold most of my Horses I still have what I have been using the last couple years. As you can see I don't really have a problem moving snow off my driveway and parking area.

I have a 95 520H with a tall shoot blower, weights on all 4 wheels with 2 link chains on the rear, the blower stays on it all year, I just started it today to be sure it was ready, I have a nice cab but I only use the blower once or twice a winter so I havn't put it on in a few years, then I have a 97 520H with a 48" blade that will get used most of the time, then if I want to play I have a round hood I have a blower or blade for, that gets used on and off all winter

Just got mine mounted up and tests it out on the garden

We've had regular heavy-ish snow in South of UK for last 4 years or so. Prior to that, hadn't seen any for several years. So we don't have an excuse to 'Tool Up' with Blades and Blowers to make it worth while........ We depend on you Guys to show us the Red Things shifting the White Stuff.

Wow, thanks for all the great comments, and encouragement guys! The Tecky lives, and it runs Fantastic!!! No smoke, except a puff of black smoke when throttling up hard. I did the initial wash up on the today, including removing the shroud, and cleaning out the cooling fins before starting. All I did to was change the oil, new battery, and add gas, and it fired right up. I'm really starting to love this beast now! The clutch pedal is broken as can be seen in the pics below, but I've got a set of both clutch, and brake pedals on the way. I'm still really amazed by the seat, as its in fantastic shape, and the vinyl is still soft, and pliable. I think I'm going to have to put a stack on it. The Nelson muffler is in like new condition, so I'll save it, incase I decide I want to go back to original. I'm going to order a set of 23x10.50-12 ags as well. I introduced the C-160 to the B-80 today, and they get along quite well. Both of my :wh:'s are 1974 models, just like me. All of us are turning 40 next year! The hood really is raised much higher on this Tecky model, as can be seen in the comparison of it, and the B-80 below. Anyway, hear are the pics. I almost forgot to mention that the 88yr old woman I bought this from even gave me the original owners manual for the beast. Matt

Hey everyone. As you know I'm hot and heavy into wheel horses now and many of you have answered many of my questions and helped me TREMENDOUSLY. But I've finally decided to give my horse a paint job and I thought I'd post pictures along the way. Here's the engine cleaned,sanded, prepped and primed. This is the first thing I've done. :)

Look's like we're in for an Autumn Storm Sunday pm /Monday am from the Midlands down. Been up on the roof to tighten up the TV Ariel Mast and check the Gutters/Downpipes....Winds forecast 60-80mph.... should strip the Trees of leaves. Got the Chain Saw at the ready . Glad I got the rest of my windows replaced 2 weeks ago, so I'm hopefully weather tight now. Calm time before the storm will be occupied by watching F1 Sunday am Watch out Lars, Storm maybe heading in your direction.

It's been a while since we had an entry to our thread.. We have been waiting for the machine shop to finish up with the valve job and new ring and piston installation. As luck would have it one of the compression rings broke during the install process. We had to order a new set on line so that was an additional holdup. We got the engine back this Friday and tonight took some time to start the process of piecing it all back together. The timing marks were almost impossible to see but after a light cleaning with a fiberglass brush they seem to have appeared on the mounting post. We have all of the ignition parts installed including a new coil and points. After installing the flywheel a hand spin produced a nice spark! We have opted for a "ground pounder" exhaust rather than a stack. Tomorrow we will finish assembling the engine and who knows with luck we might get far enough along to get it running.

Yes I went and had a good time. It took all day long to get to the garden tractors! I got there at 10:00 am and the tractors finally sold around 3:00pm. What a long day out in the cold windy boonsticks! It was a loading nightmare due to the muddy conditions and steep hills! This stuff was in the hills and hollors(spelling?). They all went for pretty cheap prices luckily, the people cleared out before they got around to the garden tractors way up on top of a hill. I got the old raggedy 1045 for a measely $85.00! I scrounged through a large pile of mower decks and found the original deck for it too, I got it for $20.00. I was saving a wad of cash for a descent WH side mounted sickle bar mower and bid it up to $200.00 and I gave up at that point. The other guy got it for $210.00, dang it! I'll post some pics later tonight.

Nope, kohler had a 18HP single called a K361 which has overhead valve. It was a very nice smooth engine when it ran. Rumor has it, the upper end did not get enough lubrication and would fail unless it was resigned to a full throttle engine. I have only driven one, and it was a power king. One owner and really cared for.

The 1961 Model #701 was the only tractor to use this plastic Ivory Dash, that makes a positive ID on the chassis. I'm "out-of-stock" of these dashes until early December . . . working on them now.

I have the good fortune to live where we only have a few 6" to 10" snows a year and my 953 with a 42" plow can do the job with ease. Never have taken any pictures of it, shame on me! , so do I.

I hava a phone of less than average intelligence because it is compatible with me. It is just a lost husband locator device.

That is one reason why I am selling the iPhone 4. I was using a voice command application. I said "dial HOME". The next thing I know it replied "dialing Andrea's mobile". Well I tried to end it and the danged thing locked up on me. I couldn't turn it off, I couldn't end the call...NOTHING. Just two minutes of me ranting, saying such things as "how the **** do you end this thing?, and yelling at the phone "I'M NOT CALLING ANDREA", and who know what else?". Meanwhile my wife is laughing hysterically in the background. Turns out this was at 6:30am and Andrea is in the central time zone. So at 5:30am she got up to find her phone only to get my message off voicemail. Andrea is my son-in-law's sister. She called him and said it was the most hilarious thing she heard in a long time. Glad I could brighten up your day Andrea. As I said, I have a nice but naughty iPhone 4 for sale, and I will continue to use my Samsung Rugby Smart until I save enough money for a Moto X.

Probably was hungry, must have been looking for a Deere to eat...... Very Funny........NOT . 6-18"s is a handfull that's for sure. Ours was a JD 2500 series hyd. reset semi mounted plow . It did a great job. We had both, a 2500 series 5-18" spring reset and the hyd.6-18". The 4320 full of fluid and weighted up could pull it fine. we have big hills and gumbo up here so a semi mounted with a sidehiil hitch was a must. There were a few guys with on land plows but not many. The bad thing about that hyd plow was that it would pull out any boulder it hit because it took so much pressure to trip it. It was very hard on hydraulic systems because of the pressure needed to trip. We had it for about 3 years and after rebuilding the hyd. systems on the 4320 and the 5020 because of that plow, we sold it and got a 6-18" spring reset. to replace it. Those 2 plows (the 5 and 6-18"s) are both sitting in the corner of he shed and haven't seen the ground in 15 years. Nobody seems to Moldboard plow around here anymore. Everyone either chisel plows or no-tills everything. IMO every field should be MB plowed at least every 5 or 6 years, to get that trash and manure down deep and let it rot. But, being I am not in charge out at the farm? We don't do it anymore. So, I just settle for plowing my gardens. IMO, nothing looks cooler than a freshly plowed field. It just looks richer and darker. Not to mention the fun of watching all the sea gulls and crows that follow you around while plowing.

Matt, I really believe this one is WH Calander material. I have not seen many I feel this strongly about but this Wheel Horse of yours is pretty special. Above and beyond the maker of the engine, what really makes it stand out to me is the OHV system. How many Kohlers have that!?!?!? Mine sure dosen't.

I am experiencing some 'weeping' of oil around the hydro filter on the 520H. Recently changed fluid and filter... then the filter a second time (oil up the filter seal prior etc.) assuming that it may have been over tightened or not quite right.. Normal mowing session is around 3.5 - 4.0+ hours.. Tranny fluid level dip stick is top of the mark... Could I have over filled it a little? (genuine Toro hydro filters used..) Cheers, Paul

Make sure the bolts that hold the rear lift cable clamp on are tight. The bolt holes go right into the sump and as the oil warms and expands it can wick up the bolt threads and may travel over to where the filter is.

Man Matt that C-160 looks great. You got a good deal there. I think it was well worth the trip for you. About a year ago I made the trip from my house to Kelly's to pick up the last C-160 in my collection the 77 and a tall chute blower. Was about a five hour trip one way, but well worth it to me.

I will try to make it and bring my trailer! Is there a list of tractors on the site or anywhere? Thanks Bowtie

On a side note...I took the springs, after they were in electrolysis...wire brushed them with the 4" grinder put them on the charcoal grill for about 20 minutes (to dry them out), and then soaked them in a penetrating oil solution that I made of 3 parts ATF, 1 part paint thinner (for oil based paint), and 1 part diesel fuel for about 3 days. Looking for the penetrating oil to soak into the metal...they look great, we will see if it will last through the winter. Here is a video of watching paint dry...could not resist doing this...click on the picture.

I think by state would make it much easier to find the dealers local to your area.

Here's my C-160 "LITTLE THUMPER" I could do that.

This is the plow I brushed. A little wax, and the snow rolls like a wave. Here's the 551 I brushed the frame on, and sprayed the tins. The spray came out a bit glossier, but I went straight from the can with the brushing and would try lightly thinning next time, or flo-through.

I just came from the ugly post....What a change to this one!!

I've been hitting the new black pipe exhaust on my RJ with some red scotch brite I cut into strips. When you think of it, take a strip, wrap it around the pipe. Then using both hands, push pull the strip using moderate tension, back and forth, from a few different angles, left to right, to ensure your hitting all sides of the pipe. Maybe takes a whole minute to complete, looks a whole lot better than the rust that black pipe turns into once the black burns off. Check it now and then...once you see it bluing up...take a minute and just hit it again. I just popped the heat shield off to show you this process... notice the bluing starting to accumulate, it's been about two weeks since the last time I did this.

Alas...another monster...excellent work you've done. Craig, this is a great monster though. These guys are reasonably priced, easy and fun to do.. I've done too many cars and motorcycles in the past and these are just a walk in the park! Love em.. Let's hope the goof balls that are only interested in money don't start gettin' on them, that'll ruin it for sure. We're doing it out of love.
