Hi everyone! Mi name is Fito from Valencia, Spain. Last week I found this old wheel horse 702 in a town close to me and I couldn´t keep me away from buying it. After 20 year without use, I plugged a new battery, revised oil level, filled the gas tank and it started in two minutes! It is in very good conditions with all the original parts and no modifications, all users manuals very well conserved. Originally bought in 1966 here in Spain. I am in love with it, also with the girl driving it! Nice to find other proud owners in Europe!

Well i posted a couple weeks ago 2011 Ariens 54" vs Wheel Horse 518/520 and finally sold the Ariens tractor. I bought a very clean 520H with only 283 hours on it from another member on here about three hours away. The best part about the whole thing i have left over money from the Ariens sale. I spent about three hours last night detailing the tractor it shine up pretty good.....

Early August I was looking at the classified section on here and got a tip on an eBay listing, so I check it out and definitely know I will be bidding on it, but doubted I would win. On the 9th the package arrives and just sits in the corner till today when I decided to open it. Thanks alot Mr.Triggs!

There is no differences between the 1992 & 1993 models. 1988-89 (Photo 1)Two 520 Models - 520-H was regular axle and the motion lever was between the legs. 520-HC was a forward swept axle with no gear reduction steering. Both models had Stewart Warner gauges, hydraulic lift opposite side of the PTO lever, and seat had a four bolt armrest backing. Chrome Hub Caps 1990- (Photo 2) Two models 520-H and 520-8. Switched to Toro decals with red letters, Stewart Warner gauges, hydro motion lever and hydraulic lift now on the steering column, seat has 4 bolt armrest kit, forward swept axle (all 520's from 1990-97 had forward swept axle). Chrome Hub Caps 1991 520-H moved to "Toro" branded gauges, gear reduction steering, same 4 bolt seat armrest kit. Chrome Hub Caps 1992-93 (Photo 3) 520-H New decals with "Wheel Horse 520-H" in White. New seat backing (same padding) with 6 bolt armrest kit. New re-enforced shift plate cover to address cracked mounts where the seat pan and seat put stress (All 520's 1992-97 had this plate). Chrome Hub Caps 1994-95 (Photo 4) 520-H New decals with Just "Wheel Horse" in bigger white letters on the hood and the "520-H" was moved down to the side of the dash tower. Chrome Wheel Horse logo on front of the hood. 1996 (Photo 5) 520-H New decals with 50th anniversary "Gold" lettering, Gold Wheel Horse badge on the front, grey hubcaps with Gold Wheel Horse logo on front of hood, New foot rests with narrower design and thinker rubber foot padding, new grippy steering wheel, bigger handle on the PTO lever, bigger brake pedal, new "Toro" embossed seat with 6 bolt armrest kit, motion and hydraulic lift levers get bigger handles, PTO cover 1997 520-H New decals with "Silver" lettering, Chrome Wheel Horse badge on the front of hood, grey hubcaps with Chrome Wheel Horse logo, New foot rests with narrower design and thinker rubber foot padding, new grippy steering wheel, bigger handle on the PTO lever, bigger brake pedal, new "Toro" embossed seat with 6 bolt armrest kit, motion and hydraulic lift levers get bigger handles, PTO cover. One small detail is in 1997, all of the axle hubs where painted black....all earlier models where red. Thad (Ohio)

The reasons why I decided to fix this Carb up are many really, deciding to put the progress report on here is that it may help others to understand why their Tired worn Carb is misbehaving or may require bits that aren't available anymore....so there may be hope yet if I can help and make a few bits. I see Used Carbs for sale and sell for over £50.00 (in UK) !. The buyer probably gets a Carb that is just as bad or worn as their old one and requires a full clean and gaskets anyway, so they still end up paying £80 incl postage etc for it. I know not everyone is able to, or has the equipment etc. to make obsolete parts, or indeed wonder if it is really worth it?....... Maybe just go out and buy a new/used Carb that will fit and move on..... For me, I have to take it apart and see if I can repair it, just because I am able to. I don't think a picture of a dirty, damaged and worn out Carb that is used mainly on 10 & 12hp Kohlers is necessary on here is it?, there's loads out there to see . I also don't need to go into the workings of it, as all that is available elsewhere e.g. Mr Miller's Tractorpulling site, although there are a few minor points I can't agree with. So, here we go, and we start with a need to identify it's condition after a good clean, an inspection and then take some fairly critical measurements of some dimensions. This Carb was left outside for several years and had filled with water. It was attached to my '81'Engine that was fully rebuilt for my '74' C-120 Project. Lots of wear and remaining evidence of rust damage to the Throttle Shaft/Plate and the Bore itself- Not easy to see, but there are 'Tide Marks' in the bore where the water level line is eroded into the Bore wall- Plan is not to re-bore this yet if it's not necessary. So I need to make a new Throttle Plate and Shaft. With the Pivot/Stop bracket removed from the old Shaft by careful filing, the bracket damage had to be straightened out. The condition of the Ball Pivot is ok (0.003" under 1/4" dia ). The old worn Banana Shaped Shaft is junk Took the measurements to reproduce the angle of the Throttle plate when in the fully closed position. A bit of a challenge and not totally accurate, but you have to start somewhere- Armed with these Dims, I produced a mandrel that will fit in the Lathe Chuck and hold a steel plate at the correct angle while it was machined down to the Bore diameter. The mandrel is a 4.1/2 inch stub of 3/4" dia Silver Steel (Drill Rod) with a Brass Head pressed/bonded on. It was then turned down to exactly 1.0000" so I can use that dia as a reference point . It was then bolted down on a Vertical Slide to machine the angled face. here it is with the face part machined- The finished Mandrel- ....and the new plate machined and just needs removing and de burring- The first attempt showed the plate was just 0.003" under Bore size- Not bad considering I had to measure the bore using an old pair of Inside Callipers and then use a Vernier to measure the Calliper setting. The bore is also tapered !!. So I may run it in the Lathe and shave off a few thou to parallel and turn up another Plate to fit. Throttle Shaft was made up from 1/4" Silver Steel (Drill Rod) as it is ground exactly to 0.2500" dia. A very nice fit in the lower Carb Shaft Bush. The original Shaft is mild steel and 0.002" under size on unworn areas, so a bit of slack there to start with when new. Used the new to me Mill/Drill for this and I like to keep a pictorial record of work holding 'Set Ups'- And the partly finished shaft against the old one. note the lower Bushing end is longer, this is because I machined less length out of the shaft for the Plate. The original had more removed than needed and reduced the bearing face area (could be a standard Shaft for several size Carbs). The 'first attempt' Plate and the old one, together with a super clean 'Fuel Tight' Float- This is as far as I have got by tonight. Still have a few adjustments to make on the 'Masheeeens' and permanently fit the LED Lights to them. Next session will be sorting out Bushings, fixing Shaft length, finishing and Plate install....maybe next week. Regards.

Found this on CL last night, it was a couple hours old and thought for sure it was already gone by the time I got around calling and got his voice mail. I tried again at 7:30 this morning and actually talked to him and said he still had it, I asked if he'd hold it for me until he got home ~5:30 and since it was about 2 1/2 hours away I didn't want to make the trip for nothing. Well, everything worked out and got her home this evening. It's a 1995 520 with 808 hours....48" dozer blade (without the extension brackets ), wheel weights, VEEEEERY nice hub caps, 48" deck and a powered bagger to boot!!!!!!! It was a great score!!!!! This is the second great WH I've scored in about a month that I almost didn't call on because it was such a good deal and I figured it was gone already. It just goes to show don't hesitate to call, it just might still be available.

A week and half ago I bought a 520HC a guy called me about wanting to sell, so I picked that one up, did a few things to it and it sold pretty quick, infact I had a buyer before I picked it up. Well the other day a local dealer got with me they are cleaning house and wanting some old stock gone, still dealing on that as they get stuff rounded up, but I did pick up a big stack of NOS hub caps from them, then the guy said I better check out their junk pile out back as a scrap dealer was coming to haul off a lot of stuff, mostly farm equip. but a few mowers as he called them, well in the junk was a 520HC with 60" deck, unsure of it's issues I made a offer that was quickly excepted, so I loaded it up with some other parts pulled off the other junk mostly MTD style stuff. That was fri after work, I didn't have time to mess with it as we had to load the truck to move my Daughter into collage today, after we got home today, I messed with it thinking it was a bad Onan, after finding a bad ign. switch and a blown fuse it fired right up, and runs great, with 870 hours on it, so I went to try the trans out and it would hardly move but the belt squealed bad, so I pulled the guard to find a very junk belt, and a missing tension spring, so off to the parts pile and put some good used parts on, now the trans works very well, the machine has lots of new parts on it, like all the PTO disk, bell, bearings, deck drive belt, a few new parts on the deck as well, the deck has 2 pretty good rust holes in it but runs out very nice and quiet, I've never owned a HC till these two and to score 2 in as many weeks, I figured this one would be a parts tractor but now I'm not so sure. little ruff but the price was right

I came across this little gem yesterday. The PO was planning to take it to the scrap yard. He had rebuilt the transmission then his son lost interest. No model # but the serial number is pictured below. Any ideas?

I'm thinkin' a 16 horse thumper would fill that hole nicely.

I have to admit that I have never seen a carburetor come out of a can of Berryman's looking like that.

I think you outbid me by $5. It really is a thing of beauty, and I wish I had paid more attention to the auction. How does it sound?

Is that the stainless 520 exhaust I see there?

It is safe to say I have had a few 520's over the years. I always think I'm done buying them....then sooner or later Boom, one comes up for sale I think I would really like to have one with the Honda/Vanguard conversion. Not that I don't like my Onan's (best sounding small engine ever made). Thad (Ohio)

Probably '63, 62 had solid front tires, 64 had a different hoodstand. 33E was electric start, 33R was recoil only.

Hello Fito and Hi everyone! Mi name is Sergi from Pradell de la Teixeta, Catalonia, Spain and I'm a recently user of Red Square. These days I've been looking for some kind of forum or association of people who collections Wheel Horse tractors. And luckily I found this. I have a original Wheel Horse tractor 702 too. This tractor was bought by my grandfather in 1964 and used it to go to the field and bring them home with hazelnuts harvested at that time. I have some letters that he received from the company that imported tractors to Spain. This is called Coprima LTD and was in Madrid. However he bought the tractor to local reseller here in Tarragona. The engine fitted in this Tractor is a K161 (7hp). I attach some photos of my wheel horse. Seeing as tractors are after restorations I think maybe also have to do something with my own. Thank you all for your time and dedication! Sergi.

Very nice Jim. That should serve you well. Now instead of trying to find odd ball parts ,you can make your own.

I've had my eye on this thing for several years. It belonged to a friend who didn't want to sell it a few years ago when I asked him about about it. I knew he didn't use it much and it was just sitting there starting to rust. Well he finally said he wanted to sell it due to moving. He's down sizing and getting out of some of his hobbies. So we settled on a price and I brought it home yesterday and set it up. It,s a bench top combination lathe and milling machine / drill press. A couple pics... After some cleaning and lubricating the ways... I know this machine is limited but it will serve my purposes nicely for some small projects. I have one Wheel Horse project in the planning stage for it as a first project. We'll see how that goes. Hope you like the pics.

That bites but a 50th Wedding Anniversary is way more important! Regardless of losing a tractor! (I couldn't add up all the years of my previous marriages and come close to that)! On a lighter note in our local "Bargain Sheet", there is a 520HP Wheelhorse tractor coming up at an auction in Huntington County next week. (With a dirt blade). I have no idea where you could put a blueprinted V8 on a Wheelhorse but I think I'm going to look at it! I'll bet it's gas consumption is worse than mine!

Just wondering here but I use to use Red Devil Lye to clean old Railroad Lamps. Mix up the lye and hot water in a bucket and submerse. It was some nasty stuff. It works like a charm. I Don't know about putting aluminum carbs in there. Just might not have nothing left. But I will tell you that lye will eat anything. (Just a thought and not responsible for any chemical catastrophes)

Definitely Red. I've been hit with some free green stuff, a model 70 and 110. Both round fender. They are cool, but they are green. Time to sell them and get another horse.

After using it for 3 carburetors, I have to give Berryman's a rating of . The Tecumseh carb that I did a week ago did not do well. Thanks to the EPA, we can no longer get carbon tetrachloride. Now that was a cleaner that worked.

well here are some pictures of the trans. I haven't made any progress on the motor yet. The trans is really nice on the inside....all gears and bearings look good. But I am still going to change the bearings just to be safe. I took apart the differential to clean it but had it back together before I took the pictures. Everything has been soaked and cleaned up...I just need to bead blast the case, order some bearings, and put it back together. Maybe if I'm lucky I can have this one done in time for scotts meet and greet!

While in the bath, be careful feeling around for the rubber ducky! Brian is right. The stuff today is glorified toilet bowl cleaner. I got a can last fall. I can get it on me and my wife won't notice it. The old Berrymans, Mac's (Napa) stuff if I even looked at a can she knew. We used to have Safety Clean carb cleaner in the shop. A 15 gal drum with an agitator (Not ME! ) on top. You could clean the hair off a Wombat with the stuff. Once I had one of those Computer Command Quadrajets in it and one of the tiny mixture needles got out of the basket and fell to the bottom. I had to go fishin. My arm looked like a lobster for a week!
