Boy, I can't begin to say how great it was to see everyone! To see old faces and meet new ones is to me the best part of the show. I hate to think of all the great folks I would have never met had it not been for a little tractor . . . I hate to mention anyone in particular, because I don't want leave anyone out so thanks to everyone I got to share some time and stories with. Great hearing about others lives and experiences! Two that deserve special thanks in my opinion are the folks from WHCC that make this happen every year and time commitment it takes and Bill Pearson who acts as our MC for the parades and photo shoots and is willing to stand and bake until all the tractors are through It was also great to reunite with those of you that I see at some of the other shows throughout the year like Bob, Brian & Jo, Bill, Jim & Karen and Charlie. Here are some pictures (click to enlarge) Wednesday night ready to roll Thursday morning setup Da show Bob & Brian's immaculate heards You know who The 701 boys Our aerial photographer Vin's beauty The modifieds TT The bad boy WH Rollback has a new owner, but let him share that This the only insecticide sprayer of this type I have ever seen. I was told it was hooked into the exhaust for delivery of the spray. I guess at some point they realized breathing exhaust AND insecticide wasn't a good idea Stevebo and mini Stevebo Start 'em young BIG group this year! Hope to see you all again next year!!

I'm sure that the Board is looking at this post and I hope that they read it as constructive and not as a complaint, because it isn't a complaint at all. Everyone wants the WHCC to be successful and continue with the Annual show. In my opinion, it would be a mistake for them to have a forum, and not because of anything to do with RedSquare. Once you open the doors to thousands of members, by default you begin to solicit opinions on how things should be (see this thread) and ultimately will cause conflicts amongst the members. As I know full well, you can't have 8,000 - 10,000 people all agree on anything. Even if RedSquare had an annual show, after a while the original members would be upset with the evolution, while the newer members would think it's great. I see it everyday with the forum itself so a show would be no exception. While I don't know all that happens during the meetings or what else they offer other than the show (there's my suggestion for the WHCC) having a very small handful of people making decisions on a show then putting out the information is far more effective to gather the masses. Making membership easier would greatly enhance their revenue. I could put a poll up, but I'd be willing to bet that for every 10 RedSquare members who visited their website *maybe* 1 filled out the membership application and sent it in. Had a simple on-line form been available, with pay through PayPal been available I would bet that number would be closer to 3 to 5. The added volume MORE than makes up for the PayPal fees. I know that I would have been a member long ago if there was an on-line form. As for their website, I have no issues with discussing other websites or forums EXCEPT in a negative light. Voicing a recommendation to enhance the site is fine, but we continue to support WHCC and ALL other forums / websites which promote Wheel Horse and Garden Tractors. RedSquare is an offering for people to visit, we are NOT in competition with any forum or website. I have very strong opinions on how a forum should be managed, and I act on that. For the WHCC site I highly respect the man who has put it together and am 100% certain that he can make any of the technical changes if requested. He is a highly respected member here, and I was very glad to meet him this past Saturday. I am fully aware of the size and reach that RedSquare has in the Wheel Horse community. 5 years ago, I am sure that at the show if you mentioned RedSquare, people said who? Now I would be surprised if you heard, RedSquare what? So the intent of this post was to avoid any confusion regarding the show as a RedSquare event, because we have grown so large and to insure that the Wheel Horse Collectors Club continues to receive FULL credit for the organization of the event and the membership to insure its continuation.

Dave, Jason is correct (as usual) the 520 Articulated is a Bob Rock creation that he custom built for me. The project was started 2 years ago and now that it has made its debut I'll do a build thread on it. There are several contribuitors that need to be thanked, but this tractor would not exist if not for Bob. Pics to come soon.

Well, as much as I didn't want to sell it, he wanted to buy it more. So the current president of WHCC is the proud new owner of the custom 2 seater. I felt better about letting it go to someone that will definitely enjoy it. After the sale, Bill had a huge smile from ear to ear and it was fun to watch him enjoy it from the second he drove off with it. He opened up the Saturday parade driving his new ride and had a sign on the front which read " El Presidente's Car". I believe it will now be in attendance at future WHCC shows for years to come which also tilted my decision to let it go. It's getting tough to think of new customs that haven't already been done but hopefully there will be something new for 2014. ONLY spare or already damaged parts are used so there is no cutting or hacking of good tractors.

Not for nuthin, but...I heard it suggested at the show... being a survivor like me, Karl Lyon should be the next recipient in line to wear it. LOL! I'm pretty sure his "safety crew" chief would approve.

Was able to capture a little bit of the experience myself. Had a fantastic time, even though it never feels long enough to sit and chat with everyone. Our display..... Brian's aka buckrancher's beautiful stainless! Bob and Terry sharing a few laughs John Campbell and Lonny Eskridge trying to break my camera! Ken Townsend on the magnificent 520 articulated built by Bob Rock and Ken. Jordan aka Jdog....hard at work selling his goodies! Cruise Night! Kate G. posing for a pic with the featured tractors! Wild Bill and the others showing off their beautiful machines! Eric Eskridge on his beautiful restore! Dog gone iPad....uggghhhh. Jason, I need your help buddy!

Thanks to John (Wallfish) for allowing me to use his camera to take this video. Overall Brennan did pretty good for a 6 year old. There were a few times that were close calls as he seemed to get distracted with all the goings on while he was riding his tractor. He did have one accident so to speak. There was a sunshade tent next to ours (which I think is a RS members) and it had dark anchor ropes holding it in place. Well Brennan did not see them and took one out with the tractor and by the time he realized what happened he pulled the back corner to the front and broke the frame. As Baerpath said ("it was a $100 lesson"). I bought the broken tent from the owners for a new one. Anyhow...here is the video of him talking with Wild Bill. As you can tell his was a bit nervous but overall pretty good for a 6 year old. http://s1287.photobucket.com/user/WHBeatle/media/DSCN3976_zpsffc654b6.mp4.html

Saturday started out as it usually does, up early, eat breakfast, load up on coffee, and head to the horses. Didn't take a lot of pictures on this day, but this wasn't going to be any regular Saturday at the show. We were all in for a surprise. I had been talking with Mike (Sparky) a couple of days before the show, and he was disappointed that he couldn't make it this year, but happy to have his first-born graduating from high school. Well, I happened to look up from my display area, and there he was. I went to say hello, and just as I got there, another person turned to face me and it was Karl. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Glad that both you guys could make it. Karl (Nylyon) and Mike (Sparky) Brian (buckrancher), Mike (Sparky) Karl's daughters, and Karl (Nylyon) A young TT wanna-be David Cline, winner of the Commando 8 I don't know the name of the 701 winner. Thanks to the WHCC crew for putting on another great show. Thanks also for the two raffle prizes that I won. I never win anything good, but this time I lucked out with a copy of "Straight From The Horses Mouth" and a case of oil. I've started counting down the days until next year.

I told my wife, friends and family that I was not going to buy anything meaningful at the show... well that lasted until this little gem crossed my path like a black cat. 1957 RJ35... faily complete... the field strip has already started (belt guard and veri-drive have been removed)... and the e-tank is about to be heated up.

I think I would be leery of using brass to replace steel in a gun part. I worked in one shop that made firing pins for a major gun manufacturer out of stainless, which was then heat treated to harden it. Brass could be a big problem. Just something to think about. Maybe some more of the on site machinists will chime in here with more expertise. I sure haven't learned everything yet.

You can, but I recommend you wire up the safety switches. At least the seat switch in case you fall off ( and dont say it wont happen) lol

Best I can tell is that they all are in running shape minus some bad fuel and a dead battery. A couple even turned over after sitting for 3 years. That goes to show how resilient these tractors are I guess! This will be fun.

I like it Steve. I hooked up my 24" wide format monitor and got almost all of the picture on the screen. As far as the names are concerned, don't forget the JimD rule of group picture posting, "horizontal is good".

Your tractor is likely a 1992 model 31-12K804. It uses a gas shock on the belt idler linkage under the drive belt guard. Go to https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro and enter your model number. Open the parts list and then the Clutch, Brake And Speed Control Linkage page. Item 53 is the gas cylinder. This cylinder can be removed and replaced by a return spring on the left side of the transmission like they used prior to 1989. Use tractor model number 21-12K804 and open the same page. Item 48 is the spring. Unless the pedal linkage needs to be lubed. Garry

Karl, It was one terrific surprise to see Sparky (who said he wasn't going to be there), then to have the guy next to him turn to face me and to see that it was you. I thought that I was hallucinating from the heat, but no, it was you. You are right when you say that RedSquare is a family. A bunch of us were talking later on saying that coming to the show each year is more like a family reunion than a tractor meet. I really enjoyed meeting your daughters as well, and was there when Glen was giving them the "lesson" on marketing. Glad too that you were able to visit our campsite as well. This is not the official picture, but here is one taken by Jo Marian with my camera.

I've cut a lot of grass when it's wet. I also have a 42 inch RD deck - great for mowing and sweeping at the same time, wet or dry grass. The best deal, IMHO, is to mow when it's dry. I try to coat my deck underside every year with slip plate to hold down the build-up and keep a painted surface under the deck. For the top, I blow off the deck with a leaf blower. However, there are places in my yard where it is still damp long after other yards have turned brown from the August drought and heat. I guess the water table is just close to the surface in those places. Also, sometimes when you get home from the salt mine, just as you pull into the driveway, a thunderstorm hits and gets everything wet. Late evening brings dew, so again, you got wet clippings. I know a lot of folks wash out their decks, but I don't - just don't have time and my back in it's older age, ain't ready to wrestle off a deck and scrape it but once a year. So what I do is - first, mow when it's dry if I can. I coat the deck with slip plate over the winter and here lately I've been trying to stock up on some spare decks. If you are going to rust out a deck - as I believe I will do, then I feel the need to have a spare or two on hand. Good luck, Bill

That seat does look good, but it isn't the original seat. The rear cushion of the originals were flat across the top. There were basically three models of this type. The '63 953, '64 1054, and '65 1054A. The 953 was rated at 9.6 Hp. The 1054 and 1054A was 10 hp. The 953 and 1054 had narrow tires, with the rears being ags. The 1054A had wider tires, with the rears being turfs (Ags were an option.). My 1054A has ags on it. All three models can be found marked as "Wheel Horse" or "Work Horse". That brings the total variants to at least six. As mentioned, some of the weak points are the transmission (more specifically the differential), the "unibody" construction, and the wooden fuel tank supports. The seat cushions are also backed up with plywood. If you're looking at one, pay close attention to any rust out where the fenders meet the frame. This can be kinda hard to fix. Also make sure the wood parts aren't rotted away. The headlights and tail lights can be pricey to replace, as can the front grill mesh. I like my 1054A a lot. I really enjoy having the hydro lift when using my box grader. It's also pretty good for picking up cute little blonds.
