Here are some pictures that I took on Thursday. At my house, all loaded up and ready to head out to meet Brian & Jo Marion (buckrancher & wife) at the Apple Bin restaurant. I arrived at the Apple Bin at about 6:50 a.m. and there was already a crowd of folks there. Brian & Jo pulled in the about 7:00 a.m. with the new horse hauler. We had breakfast, then it was off to the fair grounds. I headed to the display area and met Zeek, where we set up the canopies. Brian & Jo headed to the wooded area to stake our claim for camping, and I met them there to unload my gear. After everything was set up, it was time to just get some shots of others setting up for the show. Stevasaurus showed up to help us and had already worked up a sweat. Terry was already selling decals and hadn't even finished unpacking and setting up. Kids were already trying their skills on the teeter-totter. Jdog showed up with his log splitter and Zeek and Stevasaurus were there to admire it. Our 93 year old friend from California was taking in the sights and sounds in style. Then, when all of our stuff was set up, it was time for a little supper at the campsite. Pictured are Jo, Brian, Mike and Craig. That's all for Thursday. I am an early riser, so at 5:00 a.m. I was up and by 5:30 a.m. I had showered and eaten breakfast. Then it was off to take some shots before the place got crowded. Our campsite at 5:30 a.m. I'm the only one up. Here's the new and improved "Maynard Hotel" This year's raffle tractors were a 701 and a Commando 8 Zeeks "Cheese Grater" My B-100, 701, and Commando 8 Brian's Delorians As the sun came up, folks started arrive, as did more tractors. Vin with his incredible '54 prototype Mike Martino was preparing for a busy day with signed copies of his wonderful 3rd edition. My first time at the Wheel Horse show was awesome!! I was overwhelmed with the quality of workmanship and innovation displayed at this years show!! Here are my pictures taken with an iPhone 4S.

It is great to attend the Wheel Horse Collectors Club and see all the RedSquare hats and buttons. While most of you know this, I want to be sure that everyone is aware. Boy, I can't begin to say how great it was to see everyone! To see old faces and meet new ones is to me the best part of the show. I hate to think of all the great folks I would have never met had it not been for a little tractor . . . I hate to mention anyone in particular, because I don't want leave anyone out so thanks to everyone I got to share some time and stories with. Great hearing about others lives and experiences! Two that deserve special thanks in my opinion are the folks from WHCC that make this happen every year and time commitment it takes and Bill Pearson who acts as our MC for the parades and photo shoots and is willing to stand and bake until all the tractors are through It was also great to reunite with those of you that I see at some of the other shows throughout the year like Bob, Brian & Jo, Bill, Jim & Karen and Charlie. Saturday started out as it usually does, up early, eat breakfast, load up on coffee, and head to the horses. Didn't take a lot of pictures on this day, but this wasn't going to be any regular Saturday at the show. We were all in for a surprise. I had been talking with Mike (Sparky) a couple of days before the show, and he was disappointed that he couldn't make it this year, but happy to have his first-born graduating from high school. Well, I happened to look up from my display area, and there he was. I went to say hello, and just as I got there, another person turned to face me and it was Karl. You could have knocked me over with a feather. Glad that both you guys could make it. Karl (Nylyon) and Mike (Sparky) Brian (buckrancher), Mike (Sparky) Karl's daughters, and Karl (Nylyon) A young TT wanna-be David Cline, winner of the Commando 8 I don't know the name of the 701 winner. Thanks to the WHCC crew for putting on another great show. Thanks also for the two raffle prizes that I won. I never win anything good, but this time I lucked out with a copy of "Straight From The Horses Mouth" and a case of oil. I've started counting down the days until next year.

I was one of those who knew Karl was coming to the show. He contacted me because he knew I was on the fence about going and extended an offer to ride down with him for the day on Saturday. There was no way I would be able to go without my boys so I declined. But just knowing he was going and the buzz it would generated pushed me over the edge to load up my truck and trailer and also head down (turned out it was just for the day 600 miles round trip). As word spread that Karl, (the big cheese as some were heard saying) was at the show, everyone wanted to meet him. After all this IS the man who has kept the Red Square forum running, along with help from the other Admins and Mods. To me he is more than just the guy who runs the forum because without it, I don't think Wheel Horse collecting would truly be is big as it is. Sure there are those who are not members and do collect. But with over 8000 members now registered here I really do think it has made the difference and helped with the explosion in the hobby. So with that said I can tell you that all the members I spoke with that were in attendance were thrilled to have had the chance to meet Karl and Mike as well. I feel honored to have met him many times and actually live only about 15 minutes away from him. So Karl I tip my hat to you for the great job you've done all these years in keeping the Forum and our hobby going! I WILL be attending the show next year from Thursday to Saturday and am publicly offering you an open invitation to ride along with me if you want to. Thanks Again!

I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of compliments on my final edition. It was a real thrill to see the faces of everyone when I handed them their books at the show. It was truly a huge project that consumed my life, but was a labor of love and strong desire to pay homage to Cecil Pond. Many people have asked me how many were printed. Here are the production numbers for the three editions. First Edition: 4000 Second Edition: 4500 Final Edition: 2100 The Final Edition is limited due to the high production costs that went in to making it a high quality lasting tribute to Elmer and Cecil. As I mentioned, I wanted to keep the cost reasonable with the highest quality possible. I don't want to see people selling them at ridiculous prices on Ebay so that was another reason for the lower production number. The books are being purchased faster than you can imagine and I strongly encourage everyone to get a it now. Although not intended to be a collectable, the first two editions are in such demand, image how desirable this Final Edition will be with a smaller production total and having exposure on Red Square, The Wheel Horse Collector's Club site, as well as a beautiful article in Lawn and Garden Tractor Collector Magazine. I signed every book even if you purchased it on line, however, I did write personal messages in hundreds of books at the show. Thanks to everyone for being part of the best hobby on earth. I know Cecil and Elmer Pond are looking down upon us with amazement and appreciation. I just hope I made them proud. Michael

I spoke personally with Jeff Kane, former president of the club. The club does realize that RedSquare is an important part of the whole Wheel Horse hobby, The club is looking for ways to increase membership, and realizes that RedSquare can be a big help to that effort. As a result, the RedSquare group picture will actually be printed on the events schedule next year.

Reading all this make me realize why I like the old Wheel Horse round hoods and their simple (for me) design!

Thanks to Craig Alan (mayhem13) for mentioning my truck in this post ....and a big thank you to the WHCC for letting me display the truck and tractors in this years show !!! My son Billy and I had a great time and looking towards next year show. Some info on the truck.... The truck is a 1956 Ford F-100 clone... originally was a 1956 F-250 with a 8 foot step side bed.... Truck has a factory four speed truck transmission powered by a 292 Y block v8 The truck still retains its F-250 spring packs and transmission mounted parking brake. The PO but the flatbed on years ago....I bought the truck as seen in the above pictures.... with the exception of the wheels and tires and rear view mirrors. I also of course added the wheel horse tractors and signage. Thanks to all here for the nice compliments on the truck...BTW in the first picture you can see me and TT catching up after a long six year absence of not seeing each other ! Hi everyone! Mi name is Fito from Valencia, Spain. Last week I found this old wheel horse 702 in a town close to me and I couldn´t keep me away from buying it. After 20 year without use, I plugged a new battery, revised oil level, filled the gas tank and it started in two minutes! It is in very good conditions with all the original parts and no modifications, all users manuals very well conserved. Originally bought in 1966 here in Spain. I am in love with it, also with the girl driving it! Nice to find other proud owners in Europe!

sorry guys but i'm not good with names or who owns what but here's some pics i got Saturday.

i wanna thank all the guys that halped me along to get my 701 into good working order....i didnt go all out to restore it.....just adjusted the deck..greased everything up good....replaced the brake pad...put some new belts on and new pointes.....wire brushed it all down good and sprayed it all with some good quality red implement paint and got it looking clean but well used.....and i found a guy with a 2006 Husqvarna CZ4217 zero turn mower. Its got a 42 inch cutting deck with a 17hp Kohler command engine.......he bought this mower at an estate auction of the man that bought it brand new (the original owner paid a little over $5500 for it)....the guy bought it at the estate auction for $1200. well this guy is 84 years old and his wife is 80......he bought the zero turn in hopes that she would use it.....she ran it for about 30 minutes and got so mad at it because she wasnt able to learn how to operate it...(not to mention their yard is approx half hillside). so i played a show in their music place for them and asked what he wanted for the zero turn and he gave me the story i just told you guys......i begin telling him that i have a 61 model 701 wheel horse tractor that does a good job mowing but would be even better with a pull behind tiller or something in his garden..(which is a little over an acre and its hard to get his big duel wheel allis chalmers in the garden). he came to look at my WH and wasnt real impressed but said "give me a day or 2 to talk to the OLD WOMAN to see what she wants to do with the zero turn" about 3 hours went by and he called me and said.."the old woman said if you fill the WH with gas and oil and throw in a new set of belts and haul it down here.....ill just trade with you....but i cant trade even with you.....have you got anything to throw in with it?.......anything at all?" so i said...."ive got this little old homelite chainsaw that runs great but has no breather cover and no bar and chain....but thats about it" so he said...."well if you go buy me a roll of electric fence wire and the saw and your Wheel horse....we will just trade" so i bought a $15 roll of electric fence wire....loaded the little piece of saw in my front floorboard and drove the WH up into the back of my truck and went to his house....unloaded my stuff....hooked his trailer to my truck and loaded the Husqvarna on the trailer and told him....."ill bring your trailer back in a few minutes after i unload the mower"......so he yells back....."no you dont need to worry about the trailer cause it goes with that mower"......so i took off with a huge grin on my face and a like new zero turn 42 inch cut Husqvarna mower...a prtty little Ford blue trailer and the mower only has a total of 350 hours on it....it only had 340 hours when i traded........and all this came about because i was trying to sell my Wheel horse for $400. i made out like a bandit

Having seen it in person (and taking it for a drive) I can tell you that it is completely awesome from flexible end to flexible end. Bob and Ken have really raised the bar with this one!

Dave, Jason is correct (as usual) the 520 Articulated is a Bob Rock creation that he custom built for me. The project was started 2 years ago and now that it has made its debut I'll do a build thread on it. There are several contribuitors that need to be thanked, but this tractor would not exist if not for Bob. Pics to come soon.

I bet this has a lot to do with the lack of growing membership. I can't remember the last time I used snail mail for anything. Maybe you (or someone) could suggest how to set up an online payment. PayPal is very common and fairly easy to set up. If they don't like the fee's they could just add them on to the price. I doubt it would stop anyone from joining for 80 cents more (or whatever it would be).

I just got back from a 3 day fishing tournament close to Canada like 10miles or less and the boat was real dirty so I had to wash it lots of dirt roads. I had this hitch hanging around for a while now so I thought I would give it a try. It works good forward not so good backwards.I think I will get some thing on the front there are 2 holes on the frame plush It would be easier to see where I am with the trailer. I only use this tractor for hauling and washing the boat. The outer 1057 is being restored.I had so many people that wanted to buy this tractor at the shows I had to keep saying no because it runs so good I hate to part with it. SHE AN`T PRETTY BUT SHE PURRS LIKE A KITTEN. I hope u enjoy the picks. Gary B............................

I won't compare the WHCC and RedSquare, and I support both. I don't know who made the comments to Vin, but comments like that are usually based out of fear, but fear of what I don't know. RedSquare fully supports the efforts of the WHCC and the annual show. Our members are Wheel Horse enthusiasts FIRST, with RedSquare acting as a medium to share and exchange information. We advertise, support, and encourage attendance at the collectors club show, and I have to believe that through these efforts, attendance at the event has increased NOT decreased. The posting of pictures (enabled for guests to see as well) and open discussion of the events, who is there, the fun being had etc reaches thousands of people around the world, not just RedSquare members. The purpose of this post was to show support for the Wheel Horse Collectors Club and the show that they provide, not to divide the Wheel Horse community. There are people out there, Wheel Horse collectors, who are upset that the hobby has grown as it has, and for them RedSquare is not the place. My question to the people making the comments is simple.... What are you doing to promote the hobby? The WHCC website is an informational site and not intended to be a forum (or at least as far as I am aware). I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the club, except to say they put on a great show which I hope every RedSquare member attends while wearing their RedSquare hat! Oh... fyi, the WHCC does not have an on-line membership application, there is a link to a form which you need to print out and supply your name, address, phone number and of course a check for $10. I encourage everyone to support the club!

Bill, very nice pictures. Hold onto that hat for next year though, only the tractors were supposed to be that red! I have seen video's and pictures over the years, but can say with complete honesty that watching you work the crowd, the parade, the raffle is priceless, and it was a pleasure to finally meet you. I completely enjoyed my first half show, next year I planning on the entire time, camping and all!

Back in our motel room resting up for the trip home. Wanted to get a few pictures posted before nap time. Having sold my 16 Auto at the show I found this 93 520-H with hydraulic Lift and steering reduction. I love it already. Needs some cosmetic work but runs great and does not smoke. Eldon and Ken checked it out for me and gave it a thumbs up. Thanks Guys Eldon made me a great deal on a 42" rear discharge deck so I am anxious to get it home and mow some grass. Here is a picture of TT helping me load and tie it down properly.

There's a tractor parade where people jump on their machines for a chance to both show off and have Bill talk about their tractors. Bill does such a nice job discussing the various models, he really is a wealth of knowledge. This picture shows (poorly) the line of tractors. None of the participants are rushed, it's a nice scene! The next 3 are my personal favorites. The girls are mine and Glen asked if they would mind the store while he visited the show. Little did he know, he could have taken the rest of the day off, they had it under control!

Looking at some of the PA show pics today I got in the mood to open the garage door & work on Horse's again. Since moving into the new place my garage is about half the size of my old "shop". Parts are stashed floor to ceiling in boxes making it more of a choir sometimes to find something rather than a fun thing to do...that is working on tractors. So I've been out of the Wheel Horse game for awhile while we have been settling into the new place, working on landscaping, a privacy fence & flower beds for the wife. Hopefully my wife will keep her promise & I'll have a new shop out back by next year. So awhile back I picked up a nice Ark 550 FEL for my D-250. It was missing some misc. pieces & I just needed time & ambition to get everything together then bolted up on the D. I still need to get a counter weight & wheel weights mounted up, but I managed to get out & move a few buckets of stone from the pile on the drive to our growing rock bed going around the house. I noticed the loader is a lot easier than a shovel too. Plans are to move it to this nice solid D-160 in the future. The D-250's are solid machine, but parts are not exactly easy to find...so I'd rather put the wear & tear of a loader on the D-160 where parts will be some what easier to find.

So I was tasked with cleaning out and SELLING everything I could find out in my wife's grandma's old shop. I had never even been in the shop before. Lo and behold, I pulled back a tarp and there were approx 12 wheel horse tractors. Almost all of them are in great condition from the best I can tell. I'm new to this hobby and I'm new to old tractors so bear with me. If I misquote something or say something wrong please don't attack I mean no disrespect to the faithful. It would appear that almost every one of these are different models. The shop is in Springfield, MO, and I live in Sedalia, MO. I've decided to take these up, about 4 at a time, and clean the gas tanks, tune them up (with help from my grandpa), and sell them. Yesterday was the first load and here is what I brought... C-141 L157 Suburban 400 Charger 12 (with deck) These tractors are so cool! I cleaned them up today and they look great. I don't know all of the models of what's left down there but I'm beginning to think that will happen much sooner than I expected. My grandpa-in-law (I guess thats a term?) was a collector and also took these tractors to parades in Springfield. One of the bigger ones appears to have a special seat on it for parades. The shop is also full, and I mean full, of hoods, grilles, belts, parts, and most of all, engines...for these tractors. This is going to be fun...any advice on where to start? I figured starting on here wouldn't hurt. Thanks!

I will get my pictures (all 4 or so of them) uploaded probably tomorrow, but I wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU to the members who were at the show. You all were so warm and welcoming to me and my girls, we are so fortunate to be associated with such wonderful people. I met so many of you today, and am completely humbled by the community that RedSquare has created, and I am so happy to be a part of it. It was so awesome to shake hands with you and I truly wish that the day would have been longer (and the sun a little less intense) to have spent more time with you all. Late last week, I made a decision that we would come to the show on Saturday and told very few of the plans. I was dropping little hints during the week of the intentions and had a wonderful surprise on Friday when Mike (Sparky) decided to come with me to the show. It's always great to spend time with Mike and today was no exception. I didn't get to see a lot of the tractors at the show, and honestly it wasn't my intention to do that. My full intention was to meet as many of my friends here as I possibly could, and thank you for being there, your support of the forum and continued support for me as I continue to recover. I will cherish this day for quite some time, not only meeting all of you, but being part of a RedSquare group picture (can't wait to see it) and watching my girls sell some parts for Glen Pettit (that was SO cool Glen, and they had the time of their life. Thank you for trusting them it meant a lot to them and to me!) Hopefully I'll get the pictures from my phone tomorrow, but I wanted to say how happy today was for me, I am so fortunate to be associated with such a great place!

Well since a lot of members are at the big show in Pa., I thought this would be a good time to show you what we are doing this weekend. We burned brush all day yesterday and decided it was time to take down an old shed I built a long time ago to house the B60 after I bought it. Since the newer garage was built this shed didn't get much use and fell into disrepair out of neglect. Here are a couple of pics of the process. Removing the siding... The B60 with the trailer ready to haul it to the fire... And a little video of the action... I have another video of the C85 pushing the roof to the fire, but it takes so long to upload them. The Senior looks fairly complete although judging by the picture that the hood is damaged (use this fact in your pricing with the seller). Find out if the engine, transmission, steering gear and differential is locked up, all these can be rebuilt but this will expensive. There looks like a plow with the deal and I would look through the rest of the junk pile to see what else might go with the tractor (after you agree on a price). Now to talk price .... feel the seller out .... how did you find this tractor .... by chance ... word of mouth .... does the seller know what this tractor is ..... Take Steves word on not letting anybody else know about this ........ loose lips sink ships and ruin good deals on old Seniors and Pond tractors. (yes Steve I still remember your story) If the seller does not want to price the tractor be fair and firm and offer $700.00 SHOW CASH IN HAND WHEN DOING THIS (yes this tractor needs work) and let the seller counter offer .... if they scoff at this price show the faults and reoffer higher ...... to part this tractor out would make some money but you have to find the person who needs the parts. The top price (and remember your capabilities to restore this type of tractor) I would say $1,800.00 ........ only if the tractor is complete and every is free moving. Wild Bill in Richmond, VA

I think Karl hit the nail on the head. I'm sure there some club members who feel the show has almost gotten to big. Let's face it, it easier to put on a show with 100 tractors and 500 people visiting as opposed to 800 tractors and 1500 people attending. I was talking to Bob and Craig on Friday night during dinner. I said The tractors were only a small part of the reason I attended. The main reason is all the great people on Red Square. How else would a bunch of "grown ups" get all wound up and excited about driving half way across the country and attending a tractor show. I have a family reunion next month and attending the show felt like the same thing to me. I dare say without Red Square I wouldn't attend the show unless I had to to try to buy some much needed replacement parts. The friends I've made make me want to attend and I'm all ready planning next year's trip.

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all who participated ! Karl thanks again for the Red Square hat ......... yes I got sun burned from Fridays parade ! I do wish we could have spent more time to finally get acquainted Stories from this show will never end, like the 93 year old man who came from Bakersfield, California to having two sets of families that had four generations attend the show ...... one of the families all rode on a single tractor with trailer unit in the parade ! The man from Bakersfield was as excited as a kid at Christmas time being at the show. I would also like to thank John from up in NW Ohio for bringing Carl the Wheel Horse mechanic from Jones Wheel Horse ...... if I don't know the answer about a Wheel Horse Carl does ! I did enjoy the Red Square camp fire and taking till 12:00 am Friday night. AND the Red Square drag race between Steve and his Senior and me on mine ! I hope to post some pictures soon. As for the axle repair... I had the exact same issue and took it to a shop that used an end mill to plunge a 1/4" slot on the other side of the axle. What you've done looks good too. Inasmuch as you are using a 16hp engine with that 4-speed trans, I think you can expect future breakdowns of the trans...expecially one that has been to the ER before. As to whether you can successfully weld the split case.....good luck with that. I probably have a replacement case side (Rt side) if you would rather go that way. $35 for it, plus ship charges to you (heavy). The 8 speed trans has 1.125" axles and a more robust differential as well. These hold up well to the bigger engines. If you are wanting a replacement 4 speed, I have a good one from a B-80 for $100 bux. If you want an 8-speed, I have one from a B-100 that ought to suit your needs for $140. I also have a replacement hub like the one you broke...$25 + $10 to ship it. I can ship these gear boxes, but that can be pricey. I am in n/w PA at zip 16433 (80 miles north of PGH).
