I have been on vacation this week so, between rain showers I finally have the garden in . The ground was wet and tough to work but, its done. One more thing to plant though. Sweet Potatoes. Anyone ever try these before? This is my first go-round with them and I really don't know how to raise them. I started the slips a while ago and they are 8" or more so they are ready to transplant. Do I hill them like regular spuds ? Also trying to finish the new chicken house and run. I pulled a muscle in my back trying to tear the old one down that a tree fell on this spring. I tried to pick up a piece that was way too large ( with my Bobcat sitting right there) and my 52 year old back said " Hey, you are not 20 anymore. So, here's a reminder for ya ". Been a tough week. But, we are getting the job done. Its a good thing my wife is a Massage Therapist, I think I will need her by the weekend. I am gonna have to go back to work next week to recover from my vacation . We were traveling along I-68 on our way to Chambersburg PA and noticed a Wheel Horse sticker on the back of a truck window. As we passed I realized it was Stevasaurus and his wife. What are the chances? Good thing we met up because he led us right to the Comfort Inn in Chambersburg. Nice place to stay and we will be staying over Sat night to rest up for the 820 mile trip home. Having a great time already.

Just a final reminder. The store opens tomorrow at 9:00 Eastern. While Michael is at the 2013 WHCC show, I will be opening the store on his behalf. Also as a reminder, I can and will answer any TECHNICAL question / problem with the store, but can not cancel orders, change your order, discuss price, discounts, ship dates etc.... those questions must be fielded by Michael. I can answer any issue you have with the store, but please remember I have a full time job and can not provide immediate assistance. I'm not available on Saturday but if you have issues with the store, post it here still and others can likely help too, or it will have to wait until Sunday. http://wheelhorsestory.com I have enjoyed this book substantially, and I know you will too. Remember, this will VERY likely become a collectors item, so you'll want to purchase this book NEW while you can, cause we all know what happens when they're sold out!

I would sell the 518 as it sits for $500. I figure that is what I can get out of it if I would part it out. The electric lift alone is worth $350 (that is what one went for on Ebay a month or so ago). The mower deck and motor would NOT be included in that price. Let me know if you are interested...Taylor No way would I give 500 for a tractor with no motor or deck. Sorry Ok, well that is your choice not to buy it. You asked for a number and I gave it. I would probably not pay $500 for it myself, but when I know that I can get $500 out of the electric lift and trans alone, I am not going to take less than that for the whole tractor. I am just trying to recoup as much of the $700 I have invested in it as I can as I am on a very limited budget. No need to be rude... You are correct it is my choice, get your wrenches out. Good luck Planning to tear it down this summer and I am sure I will have my money back in no time! FYI, I already have someone who is interested in the electric lift for $300. Have a Great Night!

If there is more than one magnet on the flywheel it does not know which one to use. Tried it. Garry

I almost always mow in 3rd High with either the 48" or 42" as long as the grass is not wet. Only 1 area of the yard has tree roots near the surface so need to slow to 1st High then back to 3rd. I sharpen blades razor sharp 3 times a season (I know others disagree with the sharp vs 45 deg pitch cutting edge lasting) but I have done this since brand new in '81 for the C-125 and get great grass cut. Only issue is when turning corners the replacement seat onthe 312-8 is too smooth. In 3rd I need either to lock my foot under the brake pedal and hang on or slip the clutch until back on the striaght away. Never felt the C-125 or 312 underpowered with either deck in 3rd. Cut is nice and only reason I ever insisted on 2nd was when the kids were mowing with C-125 42" so they wouldn't fall off or run into a tree! Wife did hit a pole once so she used the slipping clutch after that one! Mow 1 acre in less than an hour with moderate numbr of obsticles to turn tight around. 3600 RPM 3rd works for me... Wyatt

....who knows but I like the deck you have. Try as I may I cannot get the front of my deck high enough to cut 3". I have torqued the truss rod about as much as I think it will stand. I have just bought a 5 1/2" HD composite wheel with bearings on both sides and I am going to make a bracket so I can adjust the front of my deck to level at 3". I will install this wheel in the centre of the deck widening and extending the original centre bracket. I really like the 48. It does a great job for me as well but I am cutting lower than I want at 2 3/4"

Bottom line...don't leave the deck dirty for a prolonged period of time.

Pulleys are one thing as they are hard to grip evenly, but in this case, just heat is the answer. If you are using a regualr residential propane torch type thing with a yellow mapp canister, it will also not provide adequate heat. You need to use a large diameter nozzel or what the industry calls a turbo torch. Or if you can borrow an oxy acetalene setup that will help. I wish I was closer so you could borrow mine. Until you have some serious heat, stop now before pulling the threads out of it.

I didn't buy it - I've already got some GT14 decals... your engine is fine, just needs some TLC, clean the fuel pump and carb, fresh oil and spark plug, service the starter and swap that flywheel. sorted! D

A very special thank you to Karl Lyon. He created the book's online store and worked out all the bugs ahead of time. He did this strictly as a favor to both myself and all Red Square members, as I have never created a web store. He is a very good man. I will be leaving for the show tomorrow and will return home on late Sunday. I will be monitoring the online orders while at the show, but please keep in mind that I will not be shipping until Monday-Wednesday of next week. Don't worry about getting your book autographed as I have signed each and every book. Of course if you want a special inscription, you will have to be at the show. Please note that I will not be writing personal message inscriptions for online orders. Once again, orders begin on Friday. I know that you will be very impressed with this book and DVD. I look forward to seeing everyone's face when they look at it at the show! Michael Martino

Original motors in older collectable machines makes sense when your talking about value. An RJ is worth more when the original motor is in it over one with a yank start Briggs bolted to the frame (for example). The 520's in my opinion are just common easy to find newer machines and have not become collectors items, so most guys own them for utilitarian purposes (mowing, plowing, towing carts), not for any collector value. I think anything that makes the 520 do "its job better" is a great idea. Heck, I would venture to guess the value of this 520 would increase after the Honda transplant is complete. Just my opinion of course... Mike.............

Ya I rebuilt this one............. NOT worth it. I could have saved money just going strait to this solution. so much quieter. more power. its ok though you shouldn't have one this nice.

RS member talked about this before "to add three shims under the plate, bolted to the deck, with the height adjusting holes in it. He said us the square fender washers, like they use to aline car fenders. Add one on the lower bolt and two under the top bolt, and this would tip the adjustment block back just enough to give me, about, another half inch of grass height". I tried this and it worked for me.
