3 pointsHere is some pics of my son" Andrew" preping the soil for a Pumpkin Patch with his Lawn Ranger.
-
3 pointsTerry I saw your post last night and wanted to respond then but its not easy using my phone. I have to say that I could not be happier that my disc and plow have found a good home where they will be used and enjoyed by you and your kids. As I look at the pictures of Andrew proudly working the soil it took me back 52 years instantly as I recalled the feeling I had on my first solo pulling a disc with a wd45 allis. Seeing the soil turn and smooth, nothing like it. Awesome pictures, thank you for posting. I am making 8 oz. mugs for the big show and after seeing this post I have to make one for Andrew. problem is I see you have 2 more Wheel horse fans at home. If you send me a pm with their names I will make sure they each get an official forum mug with their names Cant wait to see pics of the plow.

2 pointsHello fellow wheel horsers, We are in the process of building stables (both animal and mechanical) at our home and I've been busy getting the site ready, after school tonight I had a helper ! I loaded and my daughter carted away loads of topsoil to an area we need to make up before seeding with grass. What a team.

2 pointsI have to agree with you on this one SOI. I put Seafoam, according to instructions on the label, in all my vehicles and horses. I have not seen the gas degrade either...even after all winter. I had a full tank in my 1964 Ford for over a year (this past year) with out running...started it up and drove the gas out with no problems...no stale smell either.
-
2 pointsHere's a pic of my switch and bracket. Sitting in the seat, it mounts on the right hand side, at the top of the hood stand, where the gas tank bolts on. Kelly may have an original switch or you can buy one similar at NAPA. This is the only pic I could find of it mounted on my tractor

1 pointPicked up this original bar light with the bug eye lenses at a local tractor show today and plan on putting it on my 701,I'm not sure what switch to use or where to mount the switch? was it just a toggle switch? any help from the Red Square gang would be great ....thanks...

1 point......Well, that is the road trip to Nashville to pickup a 520-H this weekend. Bought this nice 520H just outside of Nashville and decided to bring the wife and enjoy a little of Nashville while we were there. Left early Saturday morning and got there around 9:30am and loaded up the 520. Then drove to Nashville's Music row and took in the sights, sounds and good southern food while we were there and stayed the night. Drove back today. Wish all road trips were that much fun Got it home and my 8 year old really put it through it's paces. It is a really smooth running Onan. Thad (Ohio)

1 pointThis is what I fear most - oxide particles plugging the carb passages more so than hydrocarbon or alcohol residues Oxide particles cannot be spray cleaned away with a shot of carb cleaner and may account for many of the "non - repairable" carbs we toss away. .We may all need a lesson on popping off the welch plugs on carbs to mechanically clean out oxides from the passageways. Boo, the other question I have is when the ethanol absorbs water, does it actually change into a different compound or does the ethanol just hold onto the water? I guess my question is like asking if a sponge is no longer a sponge just because it now has absorbed water.

1 pointSteve..I am pretty sure if you find a 4-speed out of a 1971and newer tractor they have the 1-piece pinions....trans #..5080-5084-5085-....Workhorse,commando 800...and the B-80 4-speed tractors....they are the same trans as the older 4-speeds just better differentials. I have put the better differentials in the older tranny's....I know of 2-701's and a 702 that have the newer differentials in them.... Mike.
-
1 pointyes the 2-piece pinions were used in the older 4-speed transmissions....the 1 piece pinions I think started in the early 70's 4-speeds and the high/low transmissions...the 1 piece are alot beefier and stronger than the old 2-piece ones....and they way the differentials are made you can,t swap them out either with out some machining work. MIKE.

1 pointYou didn't put a blade on upside down did you. I know that would make one sid cut higher; please don't ask me how I know.

1 pointThis whole thread has been about gas, but a trickle charger was mentioned above. Better then a trickle charger is what is called a "Float Charger". The difference is a trickle charger can over charge a battery...a float charger maintains the charge. Chicago Electronic Power Tools makes them...model 37137...and I have them on all my horses. I have gotten at least another 2 years out of a four year battery so far...still waiting to see how long they will last. If I had a horse set for about a week without it, I would have to put a 10 amp charger on for about 15 minutes to start the horse...with the float charger...I just hop on and go...even this last winter. SEAFOAM AND FLOAT CHARGERS...EXCELLENT.

1 pointNapa 1410 is the way to go . It's a trans/ hydraulic filter . Made by Wix. Cheaper than Toro. I cut open the last Toro filter I took off and they are made pretty cheap compared to Wix.
-
1 pointYeah that reminds me of the first few fields I Disked on my own about that age on a Farmall H. The disk was one of the old double gang type with a trip lever that you pulled while in reverse to set the angle of attack strait so you could move between fields and not tear up the road too much..

1 pointGreat pictures Terry. That little guy is never going to get tired of riding that horse...is he? I think he rode all day at AJ's Jamboree 2 weeks ago.
-
1 pointWell I went to the local bearing shop, got a new sealed bearing for a whopping 4.00$. Put it back together last night and mowed like a boss! Thanks for the advice guys!

1 pointYes, a VERY good question to ask when starting to troubleshoot something. The events leading up to the failure.

1 pointSOI If its a magnum it really makes less sense now. All a magnum needs is gas and spin to run. If the ign switch was grounding in run it shouldnt run when you jump the solinoid.I havent look at the diagram yet because my internet is so slow to down load, but this is going to be an interesting one. It would be intersting to know the symptons leading up to the no start. Did it all of a sudden not start or was there anything leading up to this?

1 pointThanks Keith. I love Tapioca - a little bit as a filler in rhubarb pie and I fear it would never make it beyond the kitchen to the fuel tank. A bit more clarification on my intentions may be in order. What I'm searching for is a dye that will not dissolve in or impart a coloration to gasoline but will dissolve in water only and color the phase separated water / alcohol layer precipitated from the gasoline when the gas "goes bad". I would like to be able to see a clear indication of the interface layer between the gasoline sitting on top of the precipitated water / alcohol. I have some aniline water soluble dye and a second packet of alcohol soluble dye coming in the mail. I just hope the water soluble is just that - only in water. I also propose taking various components of a fuel system, pieces of rubber gas line, poly gas line, steel fuel bowl, aluminum fuel bowl, bowl gaskets, etc and keeping them submersed in a small amount of E10 and again E15. Lets say we store each one in a baby jar with a few ounces of fuel. Let them sit for a year and see what happens to the components. I know I'm setting myself up for a big karmic "spanking" but I'll say it again, I just haven't seen the evidence of fuel system degradation in the tractors or cars I have owned for the last 10 + years. Maybe I have gained favor from my allegiance to the Seafoam and Marvel Mystery snake oil gods.

1 pointRaiders have shown up in Europe as late as 1977. Toro lists this 1-0360 as a 1973 Raider so I think owners on this side of the big pond think that is what it is named. Garry Thanks Garry! You've been a great help soooooooo many times. Thanks from all us Horsey people!

1 pointThis tractor belongs to my son Cole. It has an interesting past and its past is the main reason why my son wanted it. There was a thread A Tale of Two Horse's awhile back posted by Buckrancher. When my son read that thread and it told of this 854 being under 10 ft of water at Snyders fix it shop when the Susquehanna river rose 48 feet he was amazed. Cole commented that he would love to have this 854. It wasn't for sale though, yet anyways! Sometime later I heard it mentioned that it might be for sale at the 2012 Big Show. I told Cole and he said we could sell his go cart to get it! Well, the go cart got Cole about half the money. I didn't tell him about that little tid bit, (I covered the rest but I didn't tell him that.) Brian had to rebuild the motor (it was froze). Brian rebuilt the rear diff and anything else that needed it. It performs like a new tractor and everything works flawless. It is used to mow the lawn once a week and it gets cleaned after each use. I tried to use it this past fall to tow a small Wheel Horse cart filled with firewood but I got yelled at by Cole. He saw me thru his bedroom window and came running outside barefoot and told me to use one of my own tractors for hauling firewood!

1 pointThanks DOC, but it's Jim Paoli is about 2 hrs from Arendtsville. And I actually didn't know about the collectors show coming up. Maybe I'll go with my brother in law - he has a bunch of tractors and lives about half way between me and that town. Here's one of his tractors, rebuilt, nice and red

1 pointI believe the Napa filter is 1410. I cant be positive though. I only use OEM filters on my machines. The cost difference means very little in my book. There are others that use Napa stuff on here and I'm sure someon emore knowledgable than myself will be along in a bit to help out. I love the 73 no name years I just missed out on a 14 auto last month. Dying to find a 16 and a 14 as I have a 12 auto and 18 auto already.

1 pointThanx Yves. We're all just learning here. Sometimes I get to learn new and better ways of doing things, and sometimes I get to share them. Usually more of the former. Welcome to Red Square. Feel free to ask questions, or share any information that you may have.

1 pointSteve Absolutely you will be and I am updating the design to match the 2013 redsquare official show mug Your original is a classic and now you will have the second coming of the STEVASAURUS mug. Here are the 13 I have so far with I hope many more to come.
-
1 pointTerry, I hope you are going to let me sign your book and get in the mug shot photo. great idea with these mugs.
-
1 pointOK Terry, you've opened up a can of worms...of course, after seeing my new mug decal...now my wife is upset there won't be one waiting for her at the show. So, I tell her to join the forum and become a member...which obviously, got me "the look"...if you know what I mean? Wonder if you can help a brother out and do one up for her...as a surprise...you know, waiting for her at the show? Might just turn out to be the incentive needed for her to finally join up...You know I'll gladly make it worth your while...matter of fact...she drinks waaay more coffee than me...so just one for her will be fine too. Anyway...here's her pict I'd like to use...and Mrs Rules is the name I'd imagine she'd like... and of course, you know...I owe you buddy.

1 pointThe factory kit uses a push pull type switch, and it's bracket gets mounted to the right side of the dash tower. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1857-hl-5-light-kit/

1 pointYou can't compare those little 10 HP diesels to something like a Honda GX690 gas engine. Yes, they are a third the cost, but are also about a third the net HP and only half the torque of the big Honda. They would be fine on the smaller 8/10/12 HP tractors, but you aren't going to put one in a tractor like the 520H and expect the same level of performance to the original 18-20 HP Onan. There is a reason the bigger power quality made diesels cost a lot of money. -Mark-
-
1 pointIf you have a bearing sales & service shop near, just take the parts to them and they can measure and figure out what size you need and be a fraction of the cost.
-
1 pointYikes! That's a pricey bugger, ain't it? RCPW is a few bucks cheaper than PartsTree: http://www.rcpw.com/toro-parts/genuine/4567.html The other pulley uses the same bearing.

1 pointBelieve it or not, A battery that reads 12.2 volts is all ready half discharged. At least the last automotive electrical seminar I went to said so.
