2 pointshi guys, here is a few pics of a 414-8 i cleaned up and did normal maint. on. i got this 414 from a fellow western mass red square member. it was in very good shape. thanks glenn! if you follow this thread you'll remember i gave my other son-in-law dave a C160 last year. well i told ryan when you get a house i'll get you a wh. my daughter and ryan got a house earlier this year. sooo.... it will be enroute to his house in oak creek wisconsin. wheel weights, chains, 48 inch snowblade and 42 inch RD deck to go with it. plus an old school ariens walk behind 1032 snowblower. so if your close to route 90 you can wave as it goes by. the stack is a stainless steel shower safety grab bar from home depot with a tsc rain cap. my buddy mark did a super job cutting, fitting and welding the shower grab bar onto the original muffler. the rear has the awesome member made (smoreau) hitch. just can't have my son-in-laws riding around on a crapsman or mtd junk. no how no way! hope you like the pics. mike in mass.

2 pointsGOT IT HOME!!!!!!!! so excited....BUT I guess it only has a 426 Hemi in it...not the 528 I guess 438HP will have to do for now.
-
2 pointsWhether you have an engine problem or not, it sounds as though you have a much more serious problem with the rear end. I'd forget about the engine for the time being and get the gearbox sorted out first.

2 pointsI don't know about them bees, but I've difinitely got some zombie infected coworkers on the job.

1 pointMany people donot know this but NAPA has a wide variety of Small Engine parts available. You can go to your local Napa Auto Parts store and they will give you a lawn and garden catalog. They have a section on briggs, tecumseh, kohler and others. I ordered an ignition coil for a K-90 engine at 9:00 a.m and they had the coil by 3:00 p.m. and I picked it up after work. They have carbs, rebuild kits, points condensors, coils, piston rings and other parts you may need. You can also sign up for a discount card and get some off the list price. This may just give you another option in your repairs! Duke

1 pointHey all! Have had an old 520H that smoked like a chimney, and then a 310-8 that worked harder than any tractor I've ever had. Recently had a chance to acquire this 160 Auto in trade for a chainsaw. She sat covered in a garage for 13 years. Owner put fresh gas in her and she fired right up. Scheduled to pick it up tonight, and I'll immediately start looking for a snow blade since I'm on a mountain in PA... LOL I wrench on old Harleys as a hobby, but might have a question or two as I dig into this old girl.
-
1 pointone of the things i find lacking on my new 310-8 is shinny parts so when i found this filter sock cage in the dumpster at work. made 2 cuts with the porta-band saw 2 slices with a cutoff wheel and instant bling! i am working 12 hours 6 & 7 days right now so polishing will have to wait .
-
1 pointNot too many options next door to me but there is a NAPA just a town away and they do pretty good with my small engine needs. sometimes my best bet is PARTSTREE. our local NAPA went out of business, so all I really have next door is a mom and pop small engine shop and the former ace hardware. also a john deere/ toro dealer, but they're rather expensive and not much help with wheel horse stuff. I thought Martin would have a good laugh when he see's the new name of the former ace hardware store(same peoplework there) .

1 pointI got it!! I sat there and looked and checked Red-Square and looked and boom. Thanks anyway Horsers. Maybe I can help some one now.
-
1 pointnot sure about that, you may have to open the adjustment screw a little more, the 10-12 had a #26 carb and the 14-16 had a #30. i think it will work it just like i said might need more fuel, you can also readjust the float by bending the tabs so it will allow more fuel in the bowl. just my opinion. good luck

1 pointAccording to folklore, you can predict the weather with a persimmon seed. Here's how to do it: Cut open a persimmon seed. (Find persimmon fruit in your supermarket. It should be locally-grown to reflect your weather.) Look at the shape of the kernel inside. If the kernel is spoon-shaped, lots of heavy, wet snow will fall. Spoon = shovel! If it is fork-shaped, you can expect powdery, light snow and a mild winter. If the kernel is knife-shaped, expect to be "cut" by icy, cutting winds. It's best to use ripe seeds. Last Saturday, a friend told me he cut open a persimmon seed and saw a SNOWBLOWER!

1 pointIf connecting a small 10 amp charger is dramatically increasing cranking speed and allowing the engine to start and run, the battery is weak. Your Kohler engine will have an alternator winding behind the flywheel and should have (didn't see it in the video) a regulator/rectifier that provides power for charging the battery and running the battery ignition system (points/coil) after the engine starts. If the charging system does not work, the engine will not run for long as the battery drains from power required by the ignition. Battery ignition is not like a magneto- you must have a source of starting cranking power and a working charging system (alternator/RR or starter/gen) for the engine to operate normally. -Mark-

1 pointKeep the updates rolling Matt, she is looking good. I just picked up a very clean original owner C-161 yesterday at a bargain price. My 10 yr. old son Cole hasn't seen it yet. If he likes it when he sees it and if he agrees to put in some honest work helping me do a full restore on it over the winter it will be his.

1 pointMeasure the DC volts ACROSS the battery terminals while the engine is cranking. A measurement indicating lower than 10 volts DC would point to a weak battery - new or not. The battery is either defective or undercharged. Trickle charge the battery overnight and try again in the morning. If the battery voltage remians above 10 volts while cranking, place the multimeter (+) probe on the (+) starter stud and meter (-) to battery (+). Crank the engine once again. What DC voltage do you see on the multimeter while the engine is cranking (this measurement is usually done with an analoge meter as a digital meter may produce jumpy and misleading indications). Any voltage registered on the voltmeter is voltage lost thru the wiring. A high voltage indicates excessive voltage drop in the starter circuit and the need for further electrical troubleshooting. If you feel the ACR is not working, pull the head and look for the 0.030 (ish) gap on the exhaust valve to the block when the exhaust valve would be expected to be completely closed. No gap = harder cranking against the compression stroke.

1 pointIf you give Duke the chance I am sure you just might see AC in his cab. He has got one Bad A#& set up going. He has got everything else in the cab with him why not AC. I know he has got enough Horse's under the hood now to pull it off.

1 pointThanks Neil, I'm absolutely delighted as well... That first test drive was worth all the work that me and others (you know who you are guy's, thanks) have put into this build over the past 3 odd years.. Yep, that was a pheasant making himself known.. They do wonder into the garden every once in a while. Lol, yep it does need a dozer blade on the front.. The machine, not pheasant Part 39.. More test driving.... Hope the link works this time!

1 pointDarren - you are a great exmple of why Red Square is as amazing as it is. Thank you for taking the time to help me!!! I see exactly what you are talking about. If you have the chance, I would love to see a pic of this piece installed on an actual deck, but this is awesome. I will buy this part and I am sure this is the reason why it is not sucking the clippings up as good as it should. Thanks again!

1 pointDid you remember to hit the head of bolt in the center of the puller while there was pressure on it? I am sure you probably know about that, but sometimes when thers a lot going on, little tricks like that can slip ones mind. I hope that you get the flywheel off soon so you can fix Yer Horse. John
