Or something like this if you have a hard time lining up the holes. Old hubs with messed up keyways are cheap...

This past Saturday our local club, the South Jersey Gas Engine Club, took a trip down to Dover Delaware to visit the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village located right across the Du Pont Highway from the Dover Downs Racetrack. They have a nice collection of old farm machinery including old tractors, threshers, and assorted farm implements used in the dairy, poultry, and crop growing industries. They also had a great exhibit of whittlin called " Whittlin History, rural Delaware in the folk art of Jenu Camper". That in itself was worth the trip. They also have a re-created 1890's village but it was a little cold and wet to go through it. As usual we found a good place to eat and it was nice to be able to get out of the house and talk tractors with friends. Here's a few pictures:

After removal of the old piece of pipe, I use a 1" pipe tap to run through the exhaust port to clean the threads up a little before inserting a new piece of pipe.

And helping out is what Special Jim Did! Will get some pics later, but he donated some really good looking parts! It was fun for us as well! Prosjekt Suburban Internasjonale traktorer på! I have had "chats" with alot of members now. To me, the people involved in this project are truly helping to share the hobby. Often in our lives we are given the opportunity to make something happen for some one that will really bring joy into their lives, however not so often are we able to act on that opportunity. I have been praised quite highly for this project. The truth is it is as much a pleasure for me as it is anyone else. To be afforded the opportunity to be involved is payment of it's own. I have been in the WH Hobby a short time now, but I hope this is just the first of many contributions I am able to make to it. It is one thing to be involved in the hobby, but another to contribute to the well being of the hobby. I look at it as my opportunity to do more than participate. It is as much a gift to me as it is to anyone! Good things come to those who are involved in good things! I live in town, most attachments are simply not something I would use. The only attachment I really wanted for my Suburban was a mid-mount blade. If anyone has ever looked for one..they are few and far between for a Suburban. I have been looking for one since I got my Tractor! When loading the parts for Knus's tractor from Jim's truck to mine I noticed a blade.Man it was in good shape and looked like the right one for my tractor! When I asked Jim about it he said he already had one on his Suburban, he thought one of us might be interested in buying it...... I must say I think the price was a little off...he could've gotten more out of me! LOL Another update. One of the hard to find parts we have been looking for is an Exhaust shield. My brother does alot of work with a local fab shop. I had a NOS exhaust shield that I gave him to take to the guy. My bro told me yesterday that he can make them and it wont be expensive at all! So Knus will be getting a brand new Re-pop exhaust shield! Also, all you guys that I have talked to about them that said;"Yeah, if you find any of those let ME know"....I am letting you know! LOL Prosjekt Suburban Internasjonale traktorer på!

did a little more on the hood today. i dont like how the area where the grill and hood meet was fabricated with limited strength and over time the hoods all seem to crack at the corners. so i thought i would make a piece to brace the area. i cut a 3 inch strip of similar gauge steel and bent it up to conform to the inside shape of this area... it was a bit of a challenge with the bends to get it to lay flat and i think i got it close enough to tack weld in there. i need to drill a 1 inch hole in the middle of it to allow the hood ornament nut to snug up tight against the hood before i do though and couldnt find one in my holesaws, so i need to wait until monday at work to do that. then it will get welded in there and hopefully it will stiffen up the area enough. thats all for now. im working on the seat pan at the same time as this. hopefully they will both be ready for some final painting real soon.... :)

I restored a 1961 551 Suburban that came with a Tecumseh H55D-2113. These are great engines and just need to be maintained correctly. While some parts are difficult to find, I had no problem bringing this right back to spec. The H60 Tecumseh engines are virtually direct replacements and they are fairly common and easy to locate. Mechanically; the Slinger rod oil system should be used instead of the oil pump. Fuel Side; new replacement carbs are available to eliminate vacuum leaks. (Strong intake manifold signal and easy starting) Electric Side; The ignition side is dependable and strong - just tune it up. The Charger is VERY basic (No regulator) but it is easy to bring up to speed - if needed. The battery is only used to start the engine. The tough question is - rebuild and Keep it Exactly Original - a true H55, or upgrade to the H60. Whatever choice You make will be the right one. (Plus - there are those who slam the Tecumseh design for whatever reason - I've found them to be wrong.) Good luck and have fun.

made a little more progress in some things. got all the carb/governor linkage painted and on, coil and choke bracket done, actually most of that end of the engine is now done other than the points wire and coil, and fuel line from tank to pump. also got the drive belt/idler done, cleaned up the old belt as its relatively new. not sure about new throttle and choke cables, heard some problems with the throttle knob twisting off after limited use, need some input here on what to get, i dont have any good used ones so i need to buy new, are the toro ones any better than the stens ebay ones? thats my biggest holdup now with the dash. got a new ignition switch and gen light. these things cost a little more than i really would like to pay but they are new and ready to go. the ignition switch is the heavy duty one that came on these tractors (used without a solenoid) and both of them are cole hersee products, which they originally came with. ended up using the cig lighter insert from my 875 as it looked correct and was in really nice condition, just needed a good cleanup and polish.. cleaned up the outer from this tractor and painted the shield/ nut red.

Had an unexpected day to be able to work on the Lady Ranger. The Superintendent called off school for the day due to ice, so off to the barn I went. Did a little more on the tractor, but am still being held up due to the fact that I can't go to much further without parts coming back from the powder coater. The motor is about ready for primer and paint. Dad had surgery last week and is recovering so I spent some time helping him get ready to get the last few little parts over to the powder coater since he is supposed to still take it easy. Most of it is back, but there are few small things that still need to get over there. Here is a mock up of the Lady Ranger......
