  • Looking for Front Hitch Receiver for Wheel Horse 5xi Series

    Good Evening All,

I have a Toro Wheel Horse 523Dxi (Diesel Model) and would like to
install a front receiver for a 2x2 inch hitch on my front quick attach,
in order to move my trailers by the front in restricted spaces.

Is someone out there making such or selling such a part

    for Toro W.H. 5xi Series (520xi, 522xi, 523dxi, GT550) (New Holland GT23D)

I would be really interested to have one.

I have checked for quite a while and I couldn't find any on different web sites.

as EBAY, Market Place, Amazon, Kijiji etc...

I have attached few pictures of my 523Dxi just in case, The Mower

is installed with his front Belt Housing on the quick attach bracket

I forward to hear from some of you, as I guess there is no better place

then RedSquare for finding such a piece.

Thank You in advance and Have a Great Evening

    RM

Are you planning to leave the mule drive in place when you use the hitch? Or removing the mule drive and sliding the hitch into the drive slots?

I fab stuff like this from time to time and I have xi machines for reference.

    Good Evening Joe,

Thanks for your reply to my inquiry and good to know you have one from that series.

Sorry for the bold writing, but i can read myself better!! :-)

I answer to your question, I will remove the front belt drive and
slide in the hitch receiver to its place, when moving my trailers.

I have 20 foot boat and an heavy duty trailer to be move from time to

time in the garden, mostly when spring and autumn comes.

It is only in order to park the trailers in restricted location where my truck cannot access.

The trailer tongue weight about 250 to 350 pounds and both units have closely the same in weight.

Do the XI can carry as much as its older brothers at front...? I know, that tractor can carry about 5-6 tons

at the back without any issue, because I did it several time in the past, but I just don't know if he can also

    do it by the front,

I guess I'll find out soon enough unless some other members already made

their experiments and can share about it.

Please be kind to let me also know how much will it cost me for that part and as well from

where it will ship from. I am located in Levis, South shore from Quebec City, Eastern Canada .

I will be waiting for your reply,

Thank You and Have a Nice Evening

I think the front end will support 350 with no problem, but need to look at the mounting configuration. I will check that in the next day or so.

I am not sure if I can make it to the shop tomorrow.

My work is reasonable but the shipping to Canada is crazy expensive. I will send you a PM with the details. Let me know ft anyone out there has stepped up.

For now you are the first person having replied to me, you can take the time needed.

In regard to the shipping, best will be using USPS. Everything will be about weight and

volume of the part.  I'll let you check everything on you side, just get back to me with the details

Thanks again for you prompt responses

    Good Evening Joe,

I have not received your message with drawing yesterday, please do not start anything on your side, I have worked on that today, I just finish couple of minutes ago.

I took my Belt Drive mechanism (I guess this is what you are calling Mule).  I made a carbon copy of the both side of the (Mule) But 3x thicker.  I took all step in pictures (Step by Step) the cutting, assembling, testing, welding.

I have only a couple of welds to go, I'll terminate tomorrow evening.

My only time consuming that have slow me down was because of the tube receiver and a drill bit 3/4 in order to insert the two shaft support L/R. I have ran from shop to shop, as it was not available in hardware shop in my surrounding area.

Anyway, everything match as factory made.  I will send you pictures of the complete work piece tomorrow.  I'll will need to sandblast it, Primer it and then Paint it. Up to now, I am satisfied of that piece. I'll be back to you tomorrow with the pictures.

This morning I got a flash when I woke up and result is that receiver this evening. I have remembered an old restaurant table legs, that was taking space for quite a while, in my small shed. I have kept those two table legs, because of the 2 steel plate 16x16 x 5/16, I could not put them to trash as always in life, there is always a:  (It maybe useful in the future) so that day just arrive today!!! :-)

If you want to make one for you, it is was quite straight forward, Please send me an email address, as I do not know what is the maximum amount space and memory available on Red Square for such a bunch of pictures.

I ll send you tomorrow pictures.

    Good Evening Pullsart,

I guess we have the same idea, as I finally start my 5xi receiver, from the mule part in order to make it in the same design but stronger and a bit different.  I'll try to post some pictures on that chat room, i just don't know space available for such upload on Red Square.

    Thanks for your message

The mule drive is a good starting point. i looked at one here to get some measurements. One issue would be the mule drive front plate being thin. If you beef that up with your salvaged plate I would feel more comfortable.

Not sure why the email did not show up but it may be in your spam folder.

Looking forward to your work. :handgestures-thumbupright:

    Good Afternoon,

I am not familiar with such process of moving things to other area on Red Square, so if someone want to do it, I have no issue with that, especially,

if it can help or giving ideas to other members, I will be happy of it.

That said, I have another project that I have worked on during pandemic, in regard to adapt a New Holland snow blade, as I couldn't find the right one for my 523Dxi.   The blade I found for cheap around here, use to have two build-in arms, one in order to raise up and down, second to unlock and turn the angle of the blade. but the main issue was frame too short to reach the rear quick attach. So I extended the frame and adjusted the mounting bracket to fit my 5xi hydraulic horizontal arm. I have deleted the lock angle mechanism arm and up/down leverage arm. So if that can be of any interest for members, I have a complete pictures set of those modifications from start to end on all steps.

My next free time, I would like to work on a rear 2" hitch receiver with adapter bracket, in order to be able to install my mower bagger, without being bottered by the hitch receiver bolted on the axle.I don't know if someone did something about that problem already, as i couldn't find anything on that matter, in the other hand, I have an idea about how I am planning to do it, I have to put some time on it.

By the way, I have tried my new piece this morning for moving the boat, and it work well on the asphalt driveway, but on the grass, I lost grip. I will have to put extra weight on the back, in order to get better traction.  About strength of the receiver, I think is quite strong enough, not for moving a building, but good enough for my needs.

    That was the last update.

    Regards
    RM
