WheelHorseJunkie71 2 #1 Posted May 16, 2018 I went and got this today. The owner called it a ‘Commando 8’....I guess that was easy since it has an ‘8’ on the fender. I have a 68 Commando 8, so I was sure this wasn’t that. After some pondering, I’m thinking early 1970’s, maybe a 73? Did they stop giving these names at some point or something? It’s going to be a lot of work from what I see so far, missing a foot pedal, had lights but I’m sure that was salvage for the owners other projects, etc, etc.... Serial number is in one of the pictures, would be welcome to any kind of feedback.
WheelHorseJunkie71 2 #3 Posted May 16, 2018 Would the decal say that? It’s been sprayed and brushed over time, plenty of overspray, etc. But the decal clearly only just says ‘8’.
Horse Play 393 #4 Posted May 16, 2018 Sounds like a 1973 "no-name" 8. Is it an 8-speed too?

Ed, we’ll see how mine treats me, it’s bound to get a name soon. Oh and thanks for your input on the snowblower for the Commando 8, I see it’ll work with this one...well....eventually...... gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,498 #8 Posted May 16, 2018 These same files are listed as Commando 8 for our European members since the exported model names continued for a few years after they were changed for the North American market. The HS in the file name is for horizontal engine crankshaft. At the time some VS models used similar model names. Click on the pictures. Garry
Tankman 3,515 #9 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) Great Horse! Great save! Grandsons (short legged ones) love the automatic. The footrests on the Horse Junkie71's has me wondering? Perhaps some had the extruded drain holes in the footrests? Edited May 17, 2018 by Tankman
