Docwheelhorse 2,560 #1 Posted May 13, 2018 Happy Sunday Evening all! So... I listed a pair of new trailer axles on ebay. Sold them to a guy literally one mile away. He comes and picks them up when I wasnt there (I gave him permission). A couple days later he asks if I have any mowing decks for sale because he noticed all the Wheel Horse stuff... I say yep... what do you need. He says I need a deck to fit this and sends pic. I go OMG and ask if he would sell... he says well im a Simplicity / Cub guy and I need a mower for the wife. Again long story short... he wants a hydro and today I rigged up a 1985 312a with a decent deck and made swap. Im in heaven... check this bad boy 1978 C161 Briggs powered beast! It has some very unique and cool features with the fiberglass blackhood / first generation C dash tower setup. It runs as filthy as it is... ill try like heck to get it to the show but no promises. dells68 7,494 #3 Posted May 13, 2018 Very nice tractor. It seems lime a nice transition to the black hood style tractors.

wallfish 15,923 #6 Posted May 14, 2018 Man, you seem SUPER excited about that one Tony! Nice Score! Just don't see too many with good fiberglass fenders. You must be one of those Briggs Black Hood Guys!

You must be one of those Briggs Black Hood Guys! The rear fender on this is fiberglass and thick / strong... I dont think they break nearly as easy as the later "junk" plastic ones. It is unique... the hood / fender / dash tower is completly different then the later blackhoods and I LOVE the headlight arrangement. Yes its the wimpy c style parking lamp setup but the lens makes it look tough. Tony
c-series don 7,815 #8 Posted May 14, 2018 I have the exact same tractor in the automatic version. I mean same exact condition. I would love to park them side by side!

Aldon 4,826 #10 Posted May 14, 2018 (edited) Nice find! Those headlight lenses are rare as frogs hair. I had that model as my first horse. In fact, I may have a set of decals....if you decide to go that route. i love the way that twin Briggs powers that beast. Mine was the Hydro version. Might have kept it if it had been an 8 speed. I love the fiberglass hood. Edited May 14, 2018 by Aldon

c-series don 7,815 #12 Posted May 14, 2018 I just may do that Steve! I honestly wish I could load a truck and trailer and bring all 15 that I have. I really enjoyed going to your place last fall and I will be back this year.
Docwheelhorse 2,560 #13 Posted May 14, 2018 Ill be there... Ill get the 161 there too. But I also need to work on the diesel and redeem myself from last year! Tony
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,040 #14 Posted May 14, 2018 Tony- You better get some new tie rods and ags for that diesel.... And don't say "hold my beer and watch this" right before you pull that sled. lol
cschannuth 3,795 #15 Posted May 14, 2018 I might be partial to the 78 C – 161s but that is a great machine. And the headlight lens looks to be in decent shape.

Ill get it running and use vice grips on the hex steering wheel hub thats left. Then gotta get the pin out and perhaps cut hub off. Thats why no steering wheel in pics.... 1st time I touched it the thing fell off. Tony
