Lane Ranger 10,495 #1 Posted November 30, 2017 (edited) I visited with a friend of mine today that has a number of early Wheel Horse tractors and I saw this unusual feature on a 854 tractor hood. This was on an 854 garden tractor. The hood was raised right over the place where the spark plug goes into the Kohler Motor. I looked closely for weld bead or cut marks in the hood and could not find any. The hood appears to be an original hood with this "bump" impressed into the top of the hood. I am posting to see what you folks on Red Square may think about this one! Edited November 30, 2017 by Lane Ranger 2
A-Z Tractor 243 #2 Posted November 30, 2017 The 854 hood never had a bump for the spark plug. This may have been done so the plug could be changed with out taking the hood off. It is easy to make a bump in the sheet metal like this with a press and the correct tooling. If you would put it in a press you could press it back to were it was the rib might be hard to make correct again. 4
Chris G 3,274 #3 Posted November 30, 2017 I agree with a-z on that. never herd of a 854 hood having anything like that on it. 1

JoeM 7,630 #6 Posted November 30, 2017 Sometimes there need to be a little "tweak"! I would leave it in, someone did a nice job and there has got to be a story behind it. I like that sparkplug quick change thought.
