108-5 upgrade to 14hp?

Recommended Posts

Pars22

I picked up a tired little 108-5 rider, along with a separate 14hp (287707/022501) engine/starter/pulley/muffler.  Will the 14hp mount and install or am I looking at a lot of modifications to make it work?  Thanks for any input/advice!

287707-0225-01 is not an engine that Wheel Horse used so will be hard to find the info from anyone here.

You will need to compare the mounting bolt spacing and the diameter of the crankshaft plus the length of it to see if it will fit.

Going from about 19 cubic inches to 28 cubic inches is quite a change.

Thanks Garry.  I've got it mounted as the holes lined up and the pulleys from the 8hp fit so it all went back together pretty well so far.  It does have some extra and different electrical connectors so I have to figure those out.  Looks like it will require moving the gas tank and repositioning the muffler.

These should help with the wiring

You may know this but want to make sure.

The B&S ignition system is self powered. The lone ignition wire simply gets grounded to the chassis to shut it off. Identify that wire first and isolate it so it does not accidently get some battery voltage. That will smoke the coil.
