Home and cleaned up some

But like I have read on here before, I can't get the Tecky carb adjusted to my liking. I do have it running good on the high end. Seems to be complete with only the clutch safety wiring molested. Running good enough for now as I might redo it in the future. Have to think about that one. 1971 Sears Suburban

Yep, Tecky's are really finicky on the carb adjustments!

Those old sears tractors are are some tough machines. Your's is in very good condition. I would follow Craig's advice and get a new carb. :twocents-02cents: Thanks for sharing the photos.     :thumbs2:

I agree Jack. Some carbs just can't be adjusted. Try all the important basic stuff first like replacing the spark plug and wire, clean electrical connections, replace fuel line and filter, just saying replace or repair these simple 50 year old items as it should be done anyway. If the problem still exist then replace the carb. I am assuming you have checked the throttle shaft for excessive play???

Yes I have. Very little play. Havent had much time to play with it. In the spring I plan on doing all that Mtce stuff. Do they make rebuild kits for that carb like they do for the Kohlers?

I don't know for sure but probably so. I will say I have one of the aftermarket replacement carbs on the 414-8 and it works very well. When I bought that tractor it had not run in years, the original owner had passed, and the 414 was sitting in his garage.  After bringing it home and getting it running I then discovered the throttle shaft had such severe play that the M14 barely ran at all. Anyway, I bought an aftermarket carb in a pinch, bolted it on, and instantly the M14 was back to normal.

I learned a lesson then, no matter how good and well taken care of the tractor is, always always always check the throttle shaft.

Its surprising to me how some carbs are totally worn out with the tractor looking like it had only been lightly used, and some carbs are almost good as new on a tractor that looks like its been drug through Hades and back:wacko:
