876 starter question

just wondering how many amps the starter pulls when cranking the 8hp kohler

I have never seen a spec  or taken a reading but I would guess no more that 25 to 40

If I were trying to figure this out I would look for what amperage fuse is called for in the wiring diagram for the tractor. If a single fuse is called for lets say a 25 amp fuse you can safely figure only items drawing amperage through fuse on start up are the ignition and starter motor. With those parameters I would figure 5 to 7 amps ignition and 18 to 20 max for the starter draw at start up. I don't remember the exact amount but a electric motor draws 1.5 to 2 times normal operating amperage on start up. You may be able to look for a replacement starter online it should list out hp, voltage and amperage for it.

The wiring diagram for the 876 does not show a fuse. The #4988 starter switch is rated at 70 amps.
