Tonyp 278 #1 Posted September 29, 2016 (edited) I recently acquired a C-81, 8Hp, 36" deck, 6 Speed ( 3 forward,1 rvs) with Hi/Lo Does the 1 following the 8 imply 1 cylinder ? Or maybe 1 seat ? ( just kidding ) What does it imply or mean ? Other models have a "5" following the C-8 such as C-85... what does the 5 represent ? bmsgaffer 2,043 #2 Posted September 29, 2016 In that era it was a series number. The C-xx0 was the first style long red hood, solid mounted engines. The C-xx1 were a bridge change that included at least a shaker plate mounted engine and maybe a different hoodstand, the C-xx5 were the blackhood series that had the black topped hood, shaker plate and completly different hoodstand. The `xx` was the horsepower. After that they went to the 300, 400, 500 series.
