neil 2,398 #2 Posted August 9, 2014 Have you tried putting in new fuel as kohler engines are not great lovers of old petrol. Take of fuel pipe to see if pump is lifting fuel ok I sometimes take spark plug out & then with a syringe squirt some fuel into the bore to see if this helps in lifting the fuel . squonk 38,937 #3 Posted August 9, 2014 You can replace that metal pump with a plastic one. I didn't like the idea but they work great.
JC 1965 1,528 #4 Posted August 9, 2014 You can also use an electric fuel pump.
wallfish 15,926 #5 Posted August 9, 2014 You didn't mention anything about cleaning the carb which would certainly help if it has been sitting that long. You can easily test the pump buy disconnecting the fuel line to the carb and turning the engine over. If it's pumping you will know it! Connecting a longer piece of fuel line and running it into a bottle or some type of container will keep the fuel from going all over the place. New fuel and a little squirt is a good idea like Neil said. If it runs on a squirt of fuel and then stops, you know you have a fuel delivery problem. The fuel pump can also be cleaned with no need to buy any parts if the diaphragm is still good. Usually the check valves are the problem. You can test them by using a clean piece of fuel line and blow air into the ports and suck air out. Just use a piece long enough so you don't suck gas into your mouth. The inlet should only allow air to blow into the pump but not suck air out and the opposite for the outlet side. If you do take it apart, be careful not to let the little springs for the check valve fall out. They are hard to find once they get away and roll on the floor! After cleaning and smoothing the surfaces for the little check valve discs, flip the discs over to use the sides which contacted the springs to now contact the surface of the body. Re test using the air method. They don't need to seal 100% but the more the better. Too much leakage will just move fuel back and forth in the fuel lines I've had pretty good luck so far using this method.
meadowfield 2,545 #6 Posted August 9, 2014 I'll second that on clean fuel and cleaning the carb. It's a long way to suck fuel on a c series so a weak pump will struggle to prime. Either pour fuel in the bore to make sure it fires and runs or pressurise the tank to push fuel through. It might run ok once it draws fuel through, I think there's a few threads on here about it. Stormin 9,975 #9 Posted August 10, 2014 My C-125 would be a beggar to start if not used for a few days. I've fitted a primer bulb of a boat, just after the fuel tank and reached by lifting the seat. One squeeze and away it goes.

Anglo Traction 759 #11 Posted August 11, 2014 Hello Microchip, been a while. ref other Members, Garreth310179 logged in recently from your area (N.I.) mentioned you to him at the time. Maybe send him a PM? (check the Euro Introductions section). Re your on going problem with starting and your latest checks, can you smell fuel in the Cylinder (through the Spark Plug hole) the after cranking the engine?. If not, Did you put a few drops of fuel into the cylinder before refitting the Spark Plug to see if it would fire when cranked ?. How clean are the Spark Plug Threads and the Cylinder Head Spark Plug hole?. Check all the EARTH/Ground connections, especially with an Engine that has Isolation/Anti-vibration mountings. I found it a good idea to prime the fuel system as much as possible before trying to crank the engine to start it up. if you haven't done so, it may help to prime the Float Bowl with fuel before fitting the fuel pipe end from the pump. Robins 26 #12 Posted August 13, 2014 One of these makes testing the spark so easy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/VS526-In-Line-Ignition-Spark-Tester/dp/B000RA2TZM/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1407911426&sr=8-6&keywords=spark+tester worth getting. When you cleaned the carb, was there any crud in the bowl, did you make sure the tiny holes in the needles had nothing blocking them?

Anglo Traction 759 #14 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Depends what make of Carb you have on it, doubt if you'll find just the Bowl Seal, you'll probably have to order a Repair Kit. Is it a Walbro or a Kohler?. If you don't know, just put the number from the Carb Flange on here. Should be like 47- 053- ??.
