I have a lawn ranger 33r and I'm wondering how well a Kohler k181 will fit under the hood its pretty tight with the h60 on there now I know its been done before but I'm curious if there is any changes that will need done?

If I remember correctly, you just eliminate the engine riser plate, bolt the K-181 directly to the frame, and make a minor hole adjustment to the belt guard for the slightly different mounting point on the engine.

I plan doing a k181 or similar conversion on one of my Lawn Rangers someday.   Also, '62 thru '64 lawn rangers have a fuel tank independent from the engine which make this engine conversion even less complicated ... Look forward to seeing your conversion :)

And the gas tank has been nothing but trouble for me it had a crack in it when I got it I used some sealer called red kote very expensive but has worked for about a year and now its stated to seep a little around the gasket area

sorry...I see yours is a 63 model and I can understand your frustration....my 64 ranger has a one piece (soldered together ) gas tank under the hood....works nice.  I've seen tanks like yours welded up before...don't know if thats a  possible option for you or not..??

I tried to weld the crack but it didn't work all that well I think it is cast alum

My Ranger has a K181 in it, easy swap, just lose the riser plate and it will bolt straight to the frame, the holes will line right up.

There are a bunch of threads on here giving advice on sealing up the two piece tanks.
