D-Series Dash Panel needed

Recommended Posts

GlenPettit

Looking for a D-series upper Dash Panel and lower Shift Plate to use as

Original Masters, to reproduce, have had several people contact me recently, saying

they need these and just cannot find them anywhere (this is where we can help).

I can fix minor scratches, dents, nicks & chips and will not damage your originals,

would like very nice ones to start, also can also use advice and suggestions from

someone with experiences with the D-series.  I assume these were fairly standard

on many of the D-series tractors.   Can't locate any D-series tractors around here.

Would also need the provider to help with test fits on their D-series tractor(s), we can

work out loaning details; my Silicone mold materials will not damage the original, only

need about 10-days to duplicate the first generation.

Please let me know if you would consider helping, here or with PMs.

Thanks in advance,  Glen

"D"- Man

Glen. I would like to mention that when you stated, "I assume these were fairly standard on many of the D-series tractors" you are correct; however, it is certainly worth noting that there were 5 models of the "D" series produced, plus the predecessor to these the 18 Automatic. Knowing you are not considering the "D" 250, that would leave you with 4 "D" if you are considering the 18 Auto this brings the total to 5 models. Simple enough, right? No... the "Plate-instruction top" on the 18 is well er uh unique to the 18 while the lower Plate instruction is the same as the "D" 180's, "D" 200's & some "D" 160's. The "D" 160's came in 2 different models: the Kohler and the Onan powered. The Onan had an electric clutch switch. The plate instructions for this was unique to this model. I am sure more could be added but maybe someone else can chime in.

Twin:

That is exactly the information I need and want.

Hope to find a Dash Panel and Shift Plate that will 'average out' to be fairly common

to many, lots of variations on dashes.  Sure can't make all of them.

Looks like the one with the 3/4 'wrap around' the steering column may the one I need.

Time may have shrunk them some for a 'Master', but we can work around that, just by

repositioning the mounting holes.

May be some possibilities for a 'Master' loan soon, still looking and hoping.

Glenn,

Here is a picture of mine. It needs a good cleaning but otherwise good shape. You can use it for a pattern if you like. I also have the small panel. I don't have to install them right away.

From my personal "inexperience with D's", that looks like it may be the more common D-series Dash Panel.

Can anyone offer their opinions, suggestions;  is this the best one for me to reproduce ? ? ? ?

Ready to request it and give it a try.           Thank you Marv for helping on this project.            Still open to ideas.

Will take me about 20-30 hours and well over $100 to just make the molds for it, want to be reasonably sure before we start,

that this may something that Wheel Horse people really need.

I was only able to find one original parts list. My thought was to make a list of all the panels and what they fit but that's impossible. Did discover that the online parts lists for some have the correct part numbers for a dash panel but not sure it is correct for the tractor model. But the part description is wrong - listed as a side gear.

Glen, I believe I can hook you up with a good 18 auto upper dash panel if you decide to make them. Mine has no cracks and is in pretty decent chape from what I remember

That's it Eric,  that's the one and it looks very good.

Will PM you to work out details.

Thank you,   Glen

UPDATE:  July 28,   Eric will be sending me his dash to reproduce, appears to be in especially good condition and looks like something I should be able to reproduce. It's very large, largest thing I've ever tried, probably take me 6 weeks to see if it is possible, cost will probably be about $30.   Will be using a more stable black epoxy urethane resin, and make the Dash Panel a little thicker, but will look identical to original on face.   Need to remove all the white paint first to get down to the base.

Have not located a reasonably nice lower Shift Plate yet,  still looking,  will post progress here on Red Square as we go on Dash . . .   Glen

We do have the GT-14 Steering Wheel Center Insert now, one that will still allow the Wheel to flex but the insert will stay on, similar appearance to original (see Venders section).
