Kohler kt 17 qs series 2 engine

Recommended Posts

I have a Wheel Horse 417A with Kohler kt-17 qs series 2 engine. The push rod that opens and closes points went inside engine. I took a piece of coat hanger wire and put in push rod hole and it goes all the way in, long way, no stop. I was very surprised, you can crank engine, no noises. Compression very good on both cylinders.  Tractor didn't use oil, engine was very good. I have never heard of this happening before. Could part of the camshaft have broken? Any help appreciated. email--glenhes@yahoo.com.

Thanks

Glenn

The cam breaking is the only way this could happen. But what is curious to me is how the engine could have any compression if the cam did indeed break. I have not heard of this on the KT's, and can't find anything related to it surfing the net. A new one for the books for sure.

I would think if the cam is broke and the valves are closed you will have compression... I think the question then becomes;

Do you have compression on every stroke?

I've not had my engine apart so am only 'thinking out loud'...
