414-8 Renewed

Recommended Posts

Well it's taken me 4 months but I finally got my WH looking better. I just have to paint the wheels and get this frustrating 48" mowing deck to level side to side. All new paint and fantastic new decals from VinylGuy! OK, I'm not mucch of a painter so please go easy.

My wife thinks it looks good enough to keep now. I guess she just couldn't show much love to the old look,

Today, I pulled the deck to try and figure out what was causing the periodic chatter. The replacement idler pulley was smaller (about .75 inch in diameter than the original causing the belt to sometimes start slapping and vibrate the idler support bar. So I put the old idler back on and all my noise disappeared. The old idler bearings feel pretty rough so I don’t know how long it will last.

The new idler pulley was the recommended substitute but the only way it will work is if I get a shorter belt. Anybody else run into this?

I fixed the side to side level by canting the high side guide wheel out about an half inch which leveled it right out. I suspect the guide wheel bar is twisted because the deck looks straight.

you can get the idler pulley at bearing supply stores,(and many other places for that matter),just take the orig with you and they can match it,not to pick anything apart but i noticed your shifter boot was history,id check your rear end fluid for water

Thank you for the tips. There should be an bearing shop somewhere in DFW. Yes, I replaced the boot and plan on changing the the fluid right away before I put her back in service just in case. Thanks again.

Looking pretty good. What color red did you go with? I see you have the gate closed so nobody swipes her!

Ha ha, Yes, the fence keeps the rift raft out.

I used ACE International Red. They have it in both spray can and quart size.

Nice job protecting the original seat as well. Now, I know this could get pricey on ya but if you really wanna make the decals pop ya gotta chrome them rims and use black tire paint on them tires! Maybe even a good chrome paint? Chrome and Old Glory always seem to go together very well.
