Hi i have a 654 and i just picked up a 704 i thought the rearend were the same but the 704 has longer axle in it is that the way they were made or did someone put longer axles in it need some help thanks

The 654 and the 704 should have the same transmissions...#5046. Looks like someone changed out the trans on the 704. See if the brake drum is mounted in the same place as the 654 transmission. That may help to identify the trans on the 704.

It has the brake on the same spot and looks the same someone most have changed the axles that all i can figure thanks for the help

Yes, it is possible that someone changed out the axles...it is also possible that the trans was changed out and came with those axles. What did you have in mind of doing with the situation?? The longer axles made it possible to use wider rims and wider tires and not interfere with the fenders. Are you looking for options??
