d200 0 #1 Posted April 20, 2011 Anybody ever had any trouble with the pinion gear slipping off the shaft due to a weak C clip? I have been thinking about drilling through the shaft and using a hardened roll pin to keep that gear in place. Any suggestions? Also Is the chain gear on the intermediate shaft suppose to be free floating. The gear the pinion gear drives has a C clip that holds it in place. I don't have any part numbers or model numbers for the tiller was hoping to go to toros website and get a diagram to make sure its assembled right.
catman81056 3 #2 Posted April 21, 2011 7-1260, 1974 50" tiller, this tiller has the 2pc pinion. I had to buy a pinion for my tiller, I got the 1 pc, $117.00 if I remember correctly. All the shafts inside the tiller(except the tine shafts) should fit into bearing cups in each side of the case. With the case split, the shafts will have movement when just sticking in 1 side. That pinion shaft is hardened steel, good luck drilling it. I'd look for quality clip first.
