Tired of Greene 0 #1 Posted June 19, 2010 Hello, everyone Just picked up a 1976 D-160, I always wanted one of these smaller tractors with the three point hitch and when the opportunity presented its self I snatched it up. Being this is my first WH I'm hoping you guys can give me a hand getting it running and what to watch out for. When I went to pick it up the engine turned over but wouldn't start. I knew it could be a great # of different things so I figured the motor wasn't froze up so I would take it thinking I could get it running. Got it home and changed old gas and oil and cleaned the carb and plugs. Still wouldn't start so I checked the Coil and no spark. I'm replacing the coil as soon as I get it but wondering if there is anything else I should watch out for when starting one of these Onan's that has sat for at least 4 years. Also I have zero knowledge of how the Hydrostatic Transmissions on these things work so should I change that fluid also, I was trying to get the motor running good before I started to worry about any of the other problems. Any advice or places to look for parts would be greatly appreciated.

Jim_M 178 #5 Posted June 19, 2010 Have you cleaned the points? It's always the first thing I do. They have a tendency to grow hair if they sit long enough.

JUSS10 250 #20 Posted July 2, 2010 clean the points. it will make a world of a difference. from my experience of working on any older motor its always the points that seem to be at fault. not to say the coil failed, it just seems more likely to be a points issue. bitten 133 #22 Posted July 5, 2010 Hello and Have you checked your wiring? Make sure the switch is working and you are getting power to the coil. It might be something as easy as a safety switch. Good Luck.
