The ID tag (which only had a serial number) once lived between the engine control levers, which were originally mounted in the rectangular opening near the rear of the hood. TT-(Moderator) 1,127 #5 Posted March 17, 2008 I guess I was awake this time, Stephen! The 550 has two small holes in the left front area of the toolbox to mount the starter solenoid. There was also a +/- 3/4" hole in the hood to the right of the steering shaft hole for a split key ignition switch. (I can't see that area very well on this tractor though. ) The hood has been moved forward for some reason, because the steering wheel shaft is behind the original hole in the hood. That's also a nice place to relocate the throtttle lever -- right in the middle of the hood! My "good" 551 had the diamond tread turf tires, so I'd guess '60 & '61 were two years they were offered.
