Question on hubcaps

Recommended Posts

Ken B

I was visiting Stevebo today and in one of our conversations we got to talking about chrome hubcaps. Does anyone know when Wheel Horse first started offering them and in what yrs. the painted Horsehead chrome hubcaps were offered? When did they switch over to the newer style chrome caps? Thanks for any info, Ken B.

I've asked this before, best I can tell you is mid 60's for sure by 67 they used the red head hub caps, till around the late 70's 78/79 or so then they went to the logo hub cap, not an exact date but a start. hope this helps :notworthy:

I'm fairly certain that WH still had available, and continued selling the same caps, in later years (the 80's). The list I provided merely shows what was on the cross-reference lists put out by WH. Since it is the only verifiable information I have, that is all I can give without going into guesses and conjecture.

The modern style embossed hub caps that are most commonly seen were introduced in 1988. They replaced the smooth moon style that were used in 1985-'86.

There are two variations of these.....ones with silver painted accents and ones without. They were replaced with the God awful plastic versions in 1996 and 1997, gold logo and silver logo respectively. The chrome caps were still available but were not "factory installed" on any models after 1995.
