Steering wheel stuck

Recommended Posts

JonW

We got the roll pin out, but the steering wheel is still stuck to the shaft.

We have been using PB Blaster too. (That help get the pin out)

Any ideas? Besides a new steering wheel? :thumbs2:

Good luck, I've been working on getting the roll pin out of one for 2 weeks, heck I even cut the shaft off (parts tractor) bout ready to give up.

Well we cut the shaft, so we can work on it easier.

It has the roll pin out and is sitting upside down with a little PB blaster soaking on the stuck part.

Don't have a press but we can come up with something........ :thumbs2:

PB Blaster and other lubes didn't have any affect on my steering wheel. I even

drilled holes all the way around the steering wheel hub and shaft. The holes went all the way through the hub. My idea was to have half of the contact space bewteen the hub and the shaft and to also help the different lubes try to loosen the parts up. After 2 days no luck and a whole new vocabulary. Took it around the corner to a machinist and it popped out with 11 tons of pressure in his press. Had

I not drilled or soaked the parts I wondered how much tonnage would it have required then. It was worth the 20 bucks. This was on a 20 year old 314-8.

How would they press it out? The steering wheel is solid.

Would they clamp the shaft and "pull" it out?

I cant see of a way to "Press" the shaft out from the wheel hub.

Butch,

If you ever need the use of a press in the future, I have one in my shop.

JonW I don't know what your setup looks like. But the wheel on my 314-8 has a cap on it that covers the shaft. You can tell by looking that it pops off. Apparently yours isn't this way. If you can't get to the sfaft through the top of the wheel then a press won't work. I would still try a machine shop to see if they have a way to do it.

Sorry, I thought it was your 314-8 that you have listed.
